I feel you on the dual subs. We're running an 11.2 channel Audition series setup and having the two subs about 11 feet from each other make a difference. We ran f2's for the front with the usual for the other 9 except for the b2's for the fh speakers. Using an Onkyo tx-nr3007 for the nines and a separate emotiva for the f2's.

Sounds great. The room is two stories and 14 wide by 27 long. Sources include an oppo 93, ps3, xbox 360, roku soundbridge and yamaha cd player. The last two sources listed play through a BSR eq 3000 10 band then to a bbe 482 sonic maximer. I love it but the wife says and I quote "too much". Oh well that is why it is my hobby and not hers.

Anyways rock on Athena once was API, then sold to Klipsch now owned by Audiovox. Oh boy? I also love Energy Speakers too.

Ive got a Marantz SR 5001 with Athena Sct series speakers. A pair of S2 P2's for the front and S2's in the back but i cant find the matching cherry centre for the life of me, these things rock hard
makes it feel like your in the movie theatre

How do the S1/P1 combo compare to the B2.2?

Which would you prefer in a two-channel room?
The S1 and B2.2 both use the same Teteron tweeter. The B2.2 has a larger woofer 6.5" vs 5.25" on the S1. But if you're combining a powered sub with the S1 vs B2.2 and no sub I think its a no brainer to go for the S1/P1 combo. The B2.2 wont go down to 35hz like the P1 sub.

I used to own the original B2 speakers. It was good but the bass wasn't that deep.
That is what I thought, but you never know what might change with different series. I will find out shortly, will have the S1/P1 combo to replace my B2.2 in my 2-channel listening room in a week or so!

Does anyone know if there is a difference between B2.1 and B2.2 other than magnetic shielding? I have a line on some inexpensive B2.1 to upgrade my 7.1 theatre to 11.1.
no real difference other than the driver color and weight, the AS-B1 actually 4lbs heavier per speaker.
The original B1 is in a heavier cabinet, probably thicker mdf in the original. Audition series speakers are heavier than the 2nd generation across the board. My AS-F1 was 40lbs but the F1.2 was only 29. Published specs are the same but you'd think the heavier cabinet would provide better bass.

Good to know, thank you!

I found 4 x B2.1 for a great price used, they also threw in the matching C1 center.

Do you actually have a receiver that can give you 11.1? And why not 11.2? You must have a pretty large room to accomodate 11 speakers, maybe a 2nd sub will help too?
I want the new Marantz processor when it comes out in the next month or so, it supports 11.2. My first step is to install speaker wire and the additional speakers. A second sub would be really nice, but will have to wait until after upgrading my processor and amps.

My room is 18.5ft long x 14ft wide, with 1 side open to a games room.

Do I need 11.1, no. Will it make much difference in audio, maybe/hopefully. Do I want to try it out, yes!

tongue.gif that's the spirit!!
I say do it. I want to upgrade from 11.2 to 13.3! Not sure why, but only because I can. Well sort of. You know, the Wife and all.

Yeah for Athena. Too bad API wasn't building/designing amps back then. God knows I cannot afford to purchase an Anthem Amp.

Go Canada.

I picked up a pair of used S1 & P1 speakers/woofers.

I have a few hookup questions:

1. I figured out I can wire to the bottom-right connectors on the P1 and it will run the woofer plus the S1 through the physical connections. Is this the best way, or should I be running speaker wire to the S1 from the P1?
2. I would like to try blending the P1 with my B2.2 bookshelves, is this a good idea, or terrible idea? Any recommended settings?
3. Would adding a P1 Sub to my C1.2 center channel in my theatre be a good thing to try? I have to remove my projection screen from the wall to test it, so don't want to unless it is likely to sound better than the C1.2 alone.
Unforfunately I doubt anyone has the combo of Athena speakers that you have. And honestly the best answer is for you to try the different options and see what works out best. I don't see why the B2.2 wouldn't work with the P1 sub.

Has anyone actually heard the difference between AS-F2's and AS-F2.2's? I know they're supposed to sound the same, despite the 7 lb weight difference and probable superior build quality of the original F2's. I currently have F2.2's in my 5.1 setup (C1.2 and R1.2's), and have an opportunity to make an upgrade (or lateral move) for F2's. I can get them for $100 or less and hopefully unload my own speakers for nearly the same amount. Opinions?
That's a great price for a pair of F2's! Fantastic price actually.

It should be a lateral move though since the speakers supposedly sound the same. But you could easily unload a pair of F2's for $100 if they end up sounding alike.

Besides the weight the drivers are a different color. Don't know if you leave the grilles off or not.
That is a fantastic price, I am picking up a pair of F2.1 for $180 this weekend and consider that more than fair.
Honestly, I would buy them right now for that price.

Do yourself a favor and buy them, but also keep the F2.2's as well. Use them as rears or even for a separate 2 channel music system.

Buy them and enjoy.

Please let us know how you fair.
I just picked up the F2's for $80 today. They are in excellent condition (aside from grilles which doubled as some cat's scratching post).

My first impression: they are really heavy! That extra 7 lbs. doesn't sound like much, but it is. I noticed it immediately.

Gave them a quick listen, and I felt they sounded a tad better than the F2.2's. Even if it's imaginary, I'm happy with the purchase. They don't make speakers like this anymore.

As for keeping the F2.2's as rears, that's out of the question. I'm in a tiny studio apartment.

You're not going to live there forever. Keep the F2.2's!
I picked up the pair of F2 for $180, and they are much heavier, I'm surprised you say it is only 7lbs, it feels much heavier.

Apparently I paid the extra $100 for mint grills smile.gif Enjoy the F2's!
I ended up replacing my original grills for the F'2 back when Klipsch still had the parts in stock. I then sold the used grills on ebay for 40 bucks. Not too bad for a cat scratching post.
I replaced my C1.2 with an F1.2, and WOW what a difference!

Night and day, I am now really happy with my speaker setup, for quite a while I was considering replacing the center with a paradigm or a high end polk, I'm glad I tried the F1.2 first.

Vocals just came alive, I started watching The Avengers to test it out, and ended up watching it right through it was so good.
^^^^
I did the same and agree wholeheartedly with your impressions:D One day, when I upgrade my speakers, it will have to be one h-e-double hockey sticks of a center for me not to go with a matching (or same series) tower.
What is the best speaker , the AS-F2.2 or the LS-500B???

Please help me!!!
^^^^^
They are essentially the same. Only dimensions and sensitivity is different. Exact same tweeter and I suspect same drivers. If using with a sub, go for whichever suits your fancy, if using with no sub, I would favor the AS-F2.2 du to their larger size. Even though they are rated for the same frequency response, I suspect the the AS would do the lower notes at a higher SPL

cheers
