They are essentially the same. Only dimensions and sensitivity is different. Exact same tweeter and I suspect same drivers. If using with a sub, go for whichever suits your fancy, if using with no sub, I would favor the AS-F2.2 du to their larger size. Even though they are rated for the same frequency response, I suspect the the AS would do the lower notes at a higher SPL

Get the Athena AS-F2. They are not essentially the same speaker as the LS-500B.

The F2 has dual 8" woofers while the LS-500 has dual 6.5" woofers. They use different tweeters also. The F2 was highly reviewed by a couple audio magazines as an excellent bang for the buck speaker.

I stand corrected.
but wouldn't be fair to say that coupled with a sub, differences would be subtle?

Either way, like we both said, the AS is the better speaker and probably less expensive:D

Ok , thank you for your help !!

And the winner is AS-f2.2 !!!! hahaha.

Not trying to dump on athena, I have enjoyed their speakers for the last 7 years but now I am thinking upgrade. Would something like the infinity p163 or cambridge s30 be a clear and noticeable difference from the point 5's or am I wasting my time and money? Just trying to get an idea how far up the food chain I need to go in order to make the upgrade worthwhile. I appreciate any input you could provide, even if it is something I don't want to hear.

I still have a set of original as-b2's in my basement...I blame them for getting me started in this quest...its cost me some major dollars along the way...lol. I now have Asencds Towers but I know of a few members whom moved up to the Ascend 340s or 170's and considered it a move upwards...I know the Infinity and S30's also get a lot of play here but I think the Ascends should be added to that list.

Good luck....

agreed, the point 5 are what they are, a tiny satellite. So definitely an upgrade.
That was kind of my thinking, I have been using the point 5 in four positions, as main LR and surrounds with whatever center channel they were bundled with. Thanks for the reco on the ascend, I will check them out. Every time I start to dial in on one model another hat gets thrown in the ring. I also now have been told about hsu hb-1, and nht absolute zero. I am probably splitting hairs at this point, but I enjoy reading about something I am interested in.

Are the WS-100 speakers (WS series) timber matched to the Audition series?

I have F2 and F1 for LCR, and I want to add wides to my setup but don't have room for more F1 or F2 speakers and the WS-100 are nice and compact.

I'm pretty sure the tweeter is the same and they are sonically matched to Audition series but want to confirm.

Thank you!
yes they are timbre matched and do use the same tweeter.
Awesome, thank you.

Now I just need to get them for a reasonable price! I'm thinking $175 would be my max for the pair.
they've been discontinued at least 5 years so good luck if you can find some...
I can get a used pair for $250, just seems a bit high considering the age of these speakers. They would make good wides for me though in my theatre, they don't take up much space and won't close off the room as much visually.

I use a F1 for my center too:)

If anyone is looking for a complete set of Athena speakers for a great price, found this deal on Craigslist. Located in Santa Cruz, CA. $300 is a bargain just for the AS-F2 towers let alone a 5 speaker package.

http://sfbay.craigslist.org/scz/ele/3606586249.html

Center = AS-C1
2 Front = AS-F2
2 Rear = AS-B2

What would be a fair asking price for the following

AS-F2 towers
AS-C1 center
4 AS-R1 surrounds
Before I post to Craigslist, would anyone here be interested in a 5.1 Athena setup?

- LS-300 floor-standing (1 pair)
- LS-C100 center channel
- Point 5 satellite (1 pair) (w/ wall mounts)
- AS-P4000 Subwoofer

I'm in the L.A. area.

I'd reckon around $325-400. I recently saw a setup with 2 F2's, 2 B2's, C1 and AS-P4000 with a Yamaha AVR go for $200 on craigslist. The R1's were hard to find and could probably fetch a premium.

If they're all in like neww condition you should be able to get closer to $500.

I own 4AS- B2 speakers and I still use a as-c1 with my current setup while trying to get a timber matched speaker for the RC-70s. The Athena's were fantastic for the price, purchased they close to 10 years ago on clearance and it was an amazing deal almost 50% off. I still think they are very good speakers and with a decent room correction software they have impressive imaging.

Since adding 2 rc-70s I have 2 B2s that I dont know what to do with, I have a secondary tv with RC-mini's in 2ch and dont want to add rears, and I was thinking of replacing them with the athena's but they Im still left with 2 speakers that I dont know what to do with.
The RC Mini's would make good surrounds with your RC-70's and would have a much closer timbre match than Athena B2's would as surrounds.

Eventually you'll want to replace that AS-C1 center with some from Energy too. I guess you just hold off until you find a good sale.

There was an amazing set of Audition Series 1 speakers for sale in Charlotte for $250. 2xf2, 1xc1, 2xb1, 4xr1. They were originally for $400 usd, but they never wrote me back. Then it popped up again for 250usd. I quickly got an email telling me they were sold. Bummer. I didn't even need or want these but I had to have more AS series because I am a whore of a collector of things. I tend to buy up all local Van, Sea, Port, Char, Ral, WS-GB, GV SB, Athena AS series speakers when they are of good prices just to remove them from the market.

Hey everyone, this seems like the place to ask about Athena speakers. I'm adding a home theater to my basement and have been researching and doing a lot of asking around about what might be a good fit as well as doing a lot of searching Craigslist for a good deal. I came across someone advertising these speakers (which seem to be in good shape) and I really had no idea what they were but I figured I would see if I can find some good info. What he has advertised is a center channel (which he designated as c-1b-1), fronts (s-2b-1), rears (s-1b-1), and subs (p-2b-1). He's asking $250 for everything. I already have two subs which I plan on using so I'm not as curious about those. I plan on doing mostly movie watching and my room is 20x13x8. Is this something that would give me that theater sound and worth pursuing or am I better off looking somewhere else? Any help would be very much appreciated.
Those are the SCT series speakers. 4 bookshelfs, 1 center and two subs. Definitely worth $250.

http://athenaspeakers.com/products/sct-series/

S2 has 6.5" woofer and 1" tweeter
S1 has 5.25" woofer and 1" tweeter
C1 has single 5"25", single 6.5" passive radiator and 1" tweeter
P2 subs have a single 8" woofer

The P2 sub and the S1 or S2 speaker can be combined to make 1 tower speaker.. So essentially you could have two tower speakers, 1 center and two bookshelf speakers. They also make great speaker stands for your S1 or S2 bookshelf speakers if you don't need to use the P2 as a speaker.

The person who is selling those might be on this thread. The person who bought my Athena sub a while back from Craigslist was an active AVS member (nice guy too!). Just something to keep in mind.
Thanks for all of the great info! That's exactly how it is set up with the subs under the two front speakers. So will these be plenty to fill my room (dimensions about 20x18x20)? What would you compare them too? I had planned on some towers for my front speakers will these be just as good?
You would hear nothing but good things about Athena speakers on this owners thread. For a little more objectivity, read the reviews at other places. But eventually you are just going to have to listen and experiment.
