Clarence's G90!!!!!!!!!!! - Page 2

In just the few hours I've spent with this thing, I keep coming across design factors that impress me...
- the case handles on every side
- the schiempflug gears with included wrench
- the remote cover slides open like a garage door instead of a breakable hinge
- the reverse scan polarity (floor vs ceiling mount) was 2 simple switches under a cover by the remote... took 15 seconds

Nicely resolved scan lines at 1920x1080... true 1080p! I'm giddy.

Hey,

That's what I call a Hollywood ending. Happy Hollidays!

I know jealousy is not good but I'll admit this has got me thinking I need to get a job so I can get me one of these while there's still some to be had.

Oh, and Allen, you can PM me anytime.

We'll have to keep an eye out for good fares from ORD to IAD... your wife and kids would have fun here.

Even after our Dominican vacation, a week off to visit Pete and my family for Thanksgiving, and 2 weeks off during Christmas and New Years, I still have 6 vacation days left over that I'll lose, so if you want to come down, let me know.

Yep, and it's getting a new c-element because of it

The seller learned the hard way what happens when a LC lens is exposed (even briefly) to sunlight.

Hey, Thats just like a Barco. :)

1920x1080 is that really 1080p ?

I thought 1080i.

im not too good with all the i and p numbers.......
Wow! Nice score, man. Should we keep an eye out for new posts in the For Sale forum?
Clarence,
Congrats on the 'new' projector. Marshall brings up a point on the 2:35. If mounting flush doesnt work out to allow correct V centering it may be worth the effort to start a new ceiling / screen masking project that we can follow. Have you worked it out on paper yet?

How much 2:35 do you view now or is there a phosphor consideration between formats? Just a thought. Doug

1920x1080 @60Hz+ is 1080p... which is 1080i doubled... 1080i draws every other scanline, then on the next frame draws the other half of the interleaved lines.

Yes. I'll be listing 3 Marquees... the M8000 which has been on my ceiling for 2 years and I'll list the M8500 with new tubes. I'll list them on the AVS Marketplace as complete projectors for a few weeks. But I suspect the new tubes are worth as much by themselves, then I'll part out the HVPS, LVPS, VIM, neckboards, etc. Sad that a projector as a whole will fetch ~$1750, but parted out will fetch $2000+. Projectors sell in weeks. New tubes sell in minutes.

Oh well... it's easier to ship 10 packages weighing 20 lbs each than one crate weighing 200 lbs. But I'll give local buyers a shot at it before I disect them. I do have a nice Marquee travel case (black anvil case with wheels).

Hi Doug-
I've never understood the benefit of 2.35 constant height.
I suspect 90% of my viewing is 1.85.
So if I set it up for 2.35CH, it seems I'd be wasting an inch of phosphor width for most of my viewing.

AFAIK, 1920x1080 @60Hz+ is 1080p... which is 1080i doubled (unless it's a true 1080p source, then each line is true content and not merely a double of the interlaced lines)... 1080i draws every other scanline, then on the next frame draws the other half of the interleaved lines.

Congratulations man! You made it to the very top!

Oh yeah, I expect an invite sometime. :)

Pete? Are you listening? Let me know when you go....

Cary,

It may be very soon.

I am thinking of going up while Terry does the calibration.....
Plus I need to pick up the retro so that Clarence can fit his kids/Wife in the van for his Turkey Day trip. :)

Cary,

Do you have anyone that you work with that wants a small side (micro electric) paying gig? I am looking at replacing some of the Caps on the Barco boards and would rather have someone better than me do the work.

Congrats!!!!

Mmmm... dogfish looks like my kinda brew!
I bought a couple cases of new (to me) PA beers when I was in Pittsburgh last weekend for the U2 concert... http://www.edentonbrewing.com and Pocono beer from Wilkes Barre.

It might take a while to figure out where/how I want to ceiling mount this baby. And I want to replace the red c-element. So it might be a while before I have another formal meet and greet, but feel free to swing by if you're ever in the neighborhood.

Pete, you should bring Cary up for a HT weekend of SEC football.

DaRiv, you might be interested in a visit from Terry too when he does his professional calibration tour.

Congrats on the PJ Clarence! It's goin' be sweeeeet!!!

Hi Clarence!
CONGRATULATIONS!
That is quite a catch. I'd like to see the tubes' photos someday. Was it from the ad on craigslist?

Hi Raj-

Yep, this was the one on craigslist.

Here are pictures of the tubes with the lenses on. The green tube shows decent even wear... I picked the picture which makes it look the worst.

I can't see even the slightest wear on the blue or red. The 2nd picture shows why you should never allow sunlight to reach LC lenses... the red c-element has a melted spot... the lens acts like a magnifying glass zapping ants. It leaves a little "bruise" artifact on the screen.

Anybody got a replacement c-element?

Art, I love this G90. And I can't wait to get it professionally setup by Ken or Terry.

Pete,

I've been following that thread and would love to get in on this too if you work something out.

Nice, but am I the only one bothered by the sight of the thing sitting there "naked" with no packaging protection?

Wait one minute here,.. Did you say..

"the remote cover slides open like a garage door instead of a breakable hinge"

That does it...

Packaging protection?

The seller lives 8 miles away so I loaded it in the back of an SUV... the best transporting scenario I've ever had.

I might motorize it like a real garage door opener. ;)
You may want to also consider William Phelps for that calibration if he still does that type of work.

Craigs list of all places!?!? Why was I looking in the strictly platonic personals listings instead of the used G90 section!!!!

=B
Let me also add my congrats. I read this thread last night and needed to spend some quality time alone so I would stop pouting.

:)

I also have a G90 here, but it has major G and B wear, so I can't go anywhere with it until I sell a couple of the 9500 Ultras I have here..:)
Yeah I think the lack of protection even on a short journey will have rattled loads of bits loose.

Send it on a create via a plane to me in London and I will check it out for you.

I should only need it about 6 months

BTW - I went and looked up 1080p

it is 1920 x 1080 @ 60hz

1920 x 1080 @ 30hz is 1080i

Thats the basics

p is also a full use of all the resolution.

my Barcos do 2500x2000 ...... so thats good news
