Walt, Buddy,

You need to develop thicker skin. This is an anonymous forum. None of us knows the others personally. If anything anyone writes on this forum causes you suffering, then you are using this forum for something other than what it is. None of us should be should be using what's written here to feel either good or bad of themselves.

Whatever you think of yourself is what's really important. You just cannot take the things written here personally. You can't do that. You don't know me from Adam. If I write something negative about you - so what! I don't really have a clue who you really are - why should my opinion matter to you? If I write something positive about you, you can't really take that to heart either - because I don't know anything about you as a person - I just know what a person calling himself WaltChan writes here.

Positive or negative mean nothing here. What matters is that we share info and learn from one another - that's it!

Keep your chin up - cheer up! ;)

Walt will live forever on the internet. Do a google search for "Funai Limited Edition". Walt is before Funai :)

Mr. Alan Gouger: If I ever visited AVS headquarters could I purchase an autographed picture of you? I've always wanted to visit the AVS headquarters but I've always been afraid that either the Plants would assaisnate me or that you would call the police!

P.S. What does it feel like when you actually push the button that closes a thread? It must be awesome! I'm glad you've closed some and I'm honored to be associated with some of them that have been closed! Can you feel proud and ashamed at the same time?

For all that you have done for the Video community and for all the patience you have with me and I'm sure others--Thanks!

Well, I guess I am the guilty party when it comes to this thread. Thought it would be interesting to see where it would lead. I have found some really great and fun posts that may not be so much technical in nature which usually go unoticed in the Forums typcial organizational context. AVS is indeed a commmunity with common linkages and to that extent it is fascinating to see what lies just beneath the surface of our bit-based veneer.

I tend to agree that his thread may have exhausted it's potential but then again...

for some reason, I do not buy walter's BS/crying
I am betting he is home now laughing at all of you for consoling him

no one would really be heart broken like this over being made fun of on a message board

walter my advice
real advice here

return the POS TV you bought and buy the other 84 at their retail price of 1299

it is not a bad price IMO
I am sure many others would have happily paid this
otherwise just get over it

not sure why anyone cares that you write about Orion, Funai orwhatever in the threads
it is not like they are disagreeing with you, they are just complaining IMO

Alan nice post, I know I am not the coolheadest around here myself

Nothing wrong with a fun thread like this. If Walt takes so much offense to being included, there are plenty of other posts we can talk about.

Unfortunately, the last Toshiba 34HF84 is already sold. But don't worry, I'm switching to Sony now. Just a reminder again, the Orion FTDV2004 20" TV/DVD/VCR I have right now is only a temporary TV.

*Please don't bash at my TV.* :)

Does anybody remember Thumperboy, who was exposed as allegedly being the formerly banned Donberg? The exhanges between him and his exposers were lots of fun to read :p

Hey Walt. You've actually been a lot of help sorting out my 34HF85, seriously thanks.

I think you are bringing a certain level of awareneess to what we spend our money on and thats important. I like to think there is a larger point to your posts, perhaps unintended. There are people in Thailand or where ever on the planet who makes our toys. Fair to say we make more money then they do and have a better standard of living, we certainly have better TVs. Makes me wonder if I have a greater reponsibility to humanity.

That's why I bought a Sony.

walt, when you post in a forum some of the outlandish, melodramatic, over the top statements you sometimes make, you are going to have to learn to be able to take some kidding and ribbing, lighten up, and be able to laugh sometimes. I think most of us have enjoyed reading your travails with Toshiba, and at least my posts (can't speak for others), while some may have been in jest, did not consist of bashing, namecalling, profanity or anything like that. But you have to learn that if you give your opinions on things, those opinions can be challenged, exposed, ridiculed and critiqued. Its not personal against you, just the substance of what you say. If you are unwilling to be able to take criticism and challenges to what you post, then maybe you shouldn't post your opinions, especially when you do it incessantly and repeatedly on the same topics.

walt. learn to relax, chill and kick up your feet and everything will be fine.

By the way, Q of BanditZ, as someone who's been a little tough on ol' Walter yourself, I kind of chuckled at your assessment in this thread and your attempt at distancing yourself from the scenes of the "crimes"--nice work.

I've tried to be very specific when I took exception to SPECIFIC STATEMENTS that were made, but I never outrigth bashed or attacked Walt. You go into any of those threads and you'll see where I took the time to quote items and go point by point.

I never personally attacked anyone. There simply were some outrageous and melodramatic things that I just couldn't ignore after a point.

He and I had several pleasant PMs during that time where I tried to communicate very specifically where I was tripping on some of his comments. I'd like to think I was at least successful in conveying the idea that I wasn't "against" him or trying to attack him personally.

I'm sure at some point, even he'll come around and admit that, yes, he wrote some over the top and melodramatic things.

Certainly my intent was never anything personal, and if that's the way it looks to anyone, then I apologize.

Here we go again: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...16#post6492016

That's just me having a rib. No personal attacks anywhere. Except maybe post 11. ;)

Since the posts above in this thread have been posted, I think walt has exposed himself, so any apologies to him are probably unnecessary. As a few others have noted, I think walt is laughing about the posturing he's been doing, and I bet he enjoys being the center of attention. You can hear the circus music in the background as the spotlight shifts to the center circle....

Agreed. I think this has all been one big show.

I'll say this much: I've been entertained! :D

Maybe I can agree. He knows all the Orion's dirty little secrets not revealed by Toshiba or Orion. For example, most of the engineers don't have a college degree. Most are under 25 years of age. They must learn to work fast, or risk being fired.

How would you know? And for that matter, how would Walt know, since he's told us many a time that he has absolutely no ties or connections to any of those companies?

Is there any concrete proof or evidence for any of these statements?

Hmmm...

(I know the answer, but we'll all continue to play along, for laughs. ;) )

Dear Andrew:<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

I think I am the only happy owner of the Tosh 34hf85 in America, so I figure I should pop in. I emailed Toshiba regarding the Orion issue, here's the response:
"Thanks for writing!

All Toshiba TVs are made by Toshiba.

For further assistance, please write back or call 1-800-631-3811.

Scott
Toshiba Customer Service"

Very undetailed, but to the point. I would also like to know of definitive PROOF of the Orion outsourcing. Please, someone, provide a link to substantiate the claim.

Maybe Walt passed on his "katra" via the Pon Farr ceremony on Vulcan.

:p

This is a lie. I have a friend who works for Toshiba of America in New Jersey as a consultant. He told me that Toshiba has indeed switched their supplier to Orion. All Toshiba tube TVs are now made and assembled by Orion.

Thanks for backing me up. I will not go through another page of thread providing more proof that the Toshibas are being outsourced. I've already done that. You know I'm right.
It's not an ourright lie.

Any tv brandishing the Toshiba name is a Toshiba TV. Toshiba is taking responsibility for its Brand.

Orion is contracted by Toshiba to make Toshiba televisions.

In the exact same way, Sony contracts with Samsung for the manufacture of LCD panels. But the LCD TVs are fully Sony.

There is no such beast as an Orion tv with a Toshiba brand on it.

Koratdenkiworld and Walt,
please provide some proof other than your typed posts. I have emailed and called Toshiba, and have received very specific denials. Perhaps they are acting fraudulently in their responses to me, and if so, I need some proof.
