I'm thinking price increases. They've done the aggressive pricing phase, now they're going to focus on getting the revenue per subscriber up. Of course, I could be completely wrong and since you and I are just coming online in Chelmsford, I certainly hope so!

Believe it or not I think the biggest barrier to switching to FioS is the comcast email address. People do not want to change their email address and you can't move it like a phone number. Just ask my wife !

It's funny you mention that because it is exactly what my wife said, as well.

That's the best reason to have Yahoo or Gmail. Several years ago, we moved in the same town. Comcast then classified us as a new account. I couldn't get my email because the address was associated with the "old" account. When I tried to re-register under the same screen name, I was told it was "taken". Yeah, I said, taken by me. They would give me no satisfaction and I've never used their email since.

Somewhat OT, @ our current relatively new address we have Triple Play. I never activated any voice mail features as we prefer the answering machine and its oh so 20th Century blinking light. Unbeknownst to me, they had set voice mail up to default to four rings, same as the answering machine. About a year after we moved, I was fooling around on their page and found about twenty messages that their "service" had hijacked and which we never got.

Moral of the story: Use as few Comcast services as you can.

While I may agree with you about the e-mail, that ship sailed a long time ago and we just did an in-town move with no problems. As for the voice mail, being able to access the phone messages online and through the Comcast iPhone app is one of our favorite features so I'm going to have to strongly disagree with you on that one (although, we do turn on the answering machine when we're home for screening purposes).

Anyone else experiencing short (1-2 seconds) audio drop-outs over the last month or so? Video remains stable, but audio drops out completely...I am hearing this both OTA and via FIos....seems to have started with March Madness, but has happened on other shows such as "The Good Wife' (2x within the first 10 minutes of latest episode, April 6(viewed via DVR); got it a half dozen times over the course of basketball coverage viewing OTA and through the FIOS box.....Walpole, MA

I just watched a couple of recorded CBS shows from the DVR and yes I did notice a very slight drop out of audio, they were nano seconds long as not hearing the beginning of a word but the end of it and only happened once or twice in each program. Did not hear any during their recent newscasts though which is all I have watched live on BZ lately.

I'm hearing the audio loss only on CBS programming, not anything local....

I noticed the Verizon trucks out and about around North Chelmsford. I am literally on the North Chelmsford-Lowell Border (Lowell Side) in a Townhome community. However I am in no hurry as I am under contract to Comcast till August of '11 (Digital Preferred plus HBO for $45 a month first year, $55 a month second year)

Sorry to say you are out of luck in Lowell for FioS. Chelmsford is the last town they are going to wire for now anyway. They have announced that they are going to concentrate on the towns they already have wired.

Where did you get this info? I've noticed a handful of Verizon Trucks in Attleboro lately, and I don't know where we are on their list.

Maybe there are some good coffee shops in Attleboro.

"But as Verizon nears the completion of its initial goal, the company is taking a breather from construction. Executives have explained that the building phase of the network is essentially winding down. It is focusing now on finishing up TV franchises in markets where it has been working out agreements, and it's continuing to build out networks in markets it has already announced. For example, Verizon is continuing to lay fiber in parts of Washington, D.C, New York City, and Philadelphia. But it has no plans to start new deployments in cities, such as Baltimore or downtown Boston, Kula said."

I'm just saying that I know that fios has "leaked" into surrounding towns for people located on the border. Such as some homes in Lowell were wired for Fios because they happen to border Tewksbury and Tyngsboro.

It appears that Channel 7 is simply not there. I have a ATI650 digital tuner connected and 4.1 and 5.1 and 25.1 are there ... the OTA passed through HD channels, but 7.1 is not there. The signal that comes through is actually Channel 44 data.

Chan7 was there, I had recorded Paranthood last week on it, but went to watch Chuck from last night and ... some PBS WWII program was on... wtf!!!

Just switched to FIOS a few weeks ago. Anyone have an updated list of QAM channels available? When I scan, I get very few channels - all the local HD's and a few SD's.

Thanks. Guess I'll have to live with that.

Couldn't agree more. Finally have FIOS and love it. Comcast service calls were every other week for TV or internet. FIOS=4 months so far and zero service interruptions. BTW-it's cheaper too and faster. Whatever happened to the Comcast ads bragging about 100mbs coming soon? Laughable.

Almost a month and no new posts to this thread? Hope it's not dying!

Anyone have any TV outages yesterday in South Shore area? We had t-storms move through Braintree and I was watching DVR stuff and when I went live, the cable box was frozen, then all boxes in my house were down. I did a reboot, a refresh, rebooted the router and unplugged the ONT and plugged that back in, but nothing worked. They were all stuck with - - : - - on the box screen and the TV showed the Welcome to FIOS screen and was stuck there. Internet and phone worked fine. Called Tech support, but nothing he tried worked and he did not see any reported outages. Then like 2 hours later, I noticed the time was back on the boxes. Turned the TV on and it was now in the "channel unavailable, quick code" message. Called in the quick code and after a reboot and refresh, the box was working again and all others were too, even though I did not go through those steps with them too. Weird, right?

Just a bunch of content FiOS customers!

Can't help you with the storm related issues of yesterday but with previous severe storms I have never had an outage thus far.

Anything new on the eSata port? I would love to expand my DVR size. That is my biggest wishlist item for Verizon FiOS.

Hopefully Verizon will be moving to Cisco boxes with much larger built-in HDs. Don't count on the ports being activated in the Motorola boxes unfortunately!

Supposedly faster routers will begin to roll out within the next month or two as well. The will have b/g/n and wired gigabit ports.

How much larger is "much" larger? Last I heard it was 320GB. Sure that's twice the size of the current drives, but since I just bought my daughter an 1.5 terabyte USB drive for <$90, 320GB seems pretty dinky. I paid about $80-100 to buy bare 160GB drives in 2008; that would buy at least a 1-2 TB drive today.

Remember that the program producers would prefer you have no hard drive, or at best the smallest hard drive they can "encourage" the distributors like FiOS to include.

Where did you hear this? Can you link to it?
Thanks

True, but SOME folks do like to see it on Univision.
WUNI is a must carry and I believe Fios HAS to carry it in HD.
