Boston, MA - Verizon - Page 8

Today is the day for NESN-HD according to CSR's at Verizon. Can anyone confirm this has happened so I can finally order my FIOS-TV?

It wasn't there at 8:00 AM

Not here at 8 PM either. I wouldn't expect it soon.

Verizon said March 15th for NESN-HD, but does anybody know what YEAR...2008, 2009, 2010...?

Suggest someone who has had recent contact w/ VCR contact them & see what they have to say now!!

Just got off the phone with a Verizon rep and he says NESN-HD has been moved to the day after opening day for the Red Sox. This is after an early March call where the rep swore up and down that March 15th would be the availability date. Again I am going to wait until I know for sure that is available.

Here's the email response I just got from VZ:

Regretfully, at this time, we do not have a projected date for the New England Sports Network being offered in HD.

Does anyone know if Verizon will be carrying the Hockey East finals tonight? NESN owns the rights to it, however, they are deciding to carry the Bruins game instead. According to http://www.boston.com/sports/nesn/pr...es/hockeyeast/, all of the other cable providers have made arrangements to carry the game on an alternate channel. Verizon isn't listed.

Dont believe in the BS these Verizon guys serve you. They have been dishing out different dates since last six months.

I have a friend in Reading, he's had FiOS-tv for a year. When he had it installed they told him NESN-HD would be up in two months. So there seems to be a method to their madness. Keep you hanging on and maybe you'll forget about it!

Comcast will welcome you back w/open arms, at probably a better price!! I may be doing the same. I know the dilemma...if VZ is really going to have NESN-HD, I'll wait. Who wants the hassle of changing back. But with all the missed dates I have to think its more of the same...mid May, mid June, by August!! If not the April date then back I go.

Is this verifed from an end-user perspective, meaning you turned on the TV and there it was, broadcasting a signal? I don't trust VZ CSR's anymore.

Yes, I can tune 829 and yes it is there! My box didn't have the guide info yet.

This is great news. Now I want to see Verizon get the ball get rolling and offer FiOS in many more Comcast-only towns. However, It looks like VZ will be slowing things down until a statewide license is approved.
I wish I had a choice right now!

Update: The box now has guide data so NESN HD is definately real, at least for MA at the moment.

The PDF channel listing for MA still has not yet to be updated to reflect NESN HD so maybe all of MA has yet to receive it. (PDF file has date 2/07)

With the confirmed addition of NESN-HD, I ordered my FIOS-TV this morning. I have an install next week and am starting to feel a little bit of buyers remorse. I hope I have made the right decision. Time will tell. It will be nice to get more channels and higher internet bandwidth for $25 less per month. As a big user of my DVR I hope the other horror stories of missed recordings and freeze ups have been fixed.

I moved from Comcast to FiOS in January and have been real happy so far. If I had to pick 1 problem area, it would have to be the Electronic Program Guide accuracy.. Comcast did a very good job, but Verizon has a lot of errors. A second nit would be their DVR control, but it's something you'll get used to..

Wow, quite in here so who got NESN HD turned on yesterday, there was a report on another site that it was added to the Fios lineup.

I am very happy with fios, multiroom DVR with only one 6416 box is great, even better now with NESN HD !!!

I have Fios TV on order for next week. There will be 3 DVRs installed. When I asked about the "multiroom" DVR, I was strongly urged to go with individual DVR's for each TV. The cost is only $6 more per month, total. I would like to hear pros and cons of each setup. Thanks.

You won't be disappointed, trust me. We've had FIOS TV for a month and Phone/Internet for seven. It's fantastic! VZ's HD is phenomenal plus there's much more HD content than Comcast's.

I called up and ordered HBO today(Sopranos and Entourage are coming back this weekend). Granted, it's probably a couple bucks more($15.99) than Comcast is charging but then again you get HBO West channels so there's something like 14 HBO channels while Comcast has 6 or 7.

Some people in this forum were thinking of switching back to Comcast because VZ was slow in adding NESN HD. Give me a break, people! You were actually going to go back to the cable monopoly and pay more money for crappy service?! Please. I'd rather watch NESN in SD(which is a 100 times better than Comcast's) and stay with VZ than become Comcast slave again.

VZ is also introducing Freedom bundling(Double, Triple and Ultimate depending on how many services from VZ you get) with April's billing cycle which will break Comcast's kneecaps even more.

The multi-room DVR allows other STBs to view SD stuff on the DVR (not HD even with HD STB?? not sure.) However, multiple DVRs mean more storage capacity overall and HD capabilities for each for a few dollars more, but you can't share between boxes. Personally I opted for multiple DVRs and skipped STBs completely.

Anyone know if Verizon will be offering any sports packages, i.e. MLB Extra Innings or MLS Direct Kick?

Well, they won't be able to offer the MLB EI package, D* was going to be
having exclusive access, but they and MLB took some heat for it, and they
opened up negotiations to only those companies who have carried it before
and that is all. FiosTV has to my knowledge ever had the package, so they
weren't invited to the party.

Would like to hear any opinions on VZ's surround sound. Most all HD channels are in 5.1 dolby, but some time only receive two sound channels (even though it still indicates 5.1). Does anyone else experience this?
