Its connected through HDMI, and I don't know, it doesn't seem like GPU artifacting or anything like that, but I guess I don't know for sure. I thought that maybe it was the stress on the HDMI cable so I played with that a little bit, and that did seem to affect the picture on the screen a bit, though it could just be me wanting to believe its not an early sign of an upcoming RROD.

Anyway, it didn't actually freeze. In fact I was in the middle of a game of Rock Band 2, finished the song so that I could save and quit, and went back to the dashboard and took the picture. So things were still running fine, it just displayed weird. I don't have any spare HDMI cables to test out, but as soon as I turned the console off and then back on again, the picture displayed correctly. Any idea if I'm right with the cable idea, or if I should be concerned about the health of the console?

Gamertag: Chux
Problem: Audio Lag when selecting Dolby Digital
Setup: New xbox arcade, hdmi to TV through a belkin cable I got as a gift from Target. TV: LG 37LG50 HDMI goes into that, Optical (From Best Buy, again gift) goes from that to my Samsung HT-Z310.

The strange thing is, my PS3 using the same setup, but a Monoprice hdmi, has no lag whatsoever.

Please help!

Did you try switching the HDMI cables (or does the xbox have a special hdmi connector?)?
The xbox just has a plain jane hdmi connector as far as I can tell. I'll give the other cord a shot. Ordered another 6ft from monoprice just in case.
I think if the HDMI doesn't work I"ll just go back to VGA with a toslink splitter so I can have my PS3 and 360 hooked up (But not on) at the same time.
I just started noticing a relatively wide 2" apart vertical bands start appearing in those inbetween screens. ie just about to load a game etc.

It is just like slightly lighter and darker bands of color or black, color would occurr in the halo loading blue screen for instance, BUT NOT in the actual game

Is this a sign of things to come... I have had the box just over a year now

Thanks

I've got a problem with my repaired 360 from Microsoft. None of my controllers connect to my console anymore but they do connect to a friends. I've changed the power supply and moved the system to another room but still nothing. The dvd remote I have works fine(it must use a different connection?) but the controllers will not connect and I've been trying everything I can think of and read on the net.

Does anyone know how the 360 controllers are connected with the console? I've thought of trying to fix it myself but I don't know what part or parts I would need. If anyone can help it's much appreciated.

Did you resync them by hitting the sync on the controller and Xbox at the same time?
Just tried syncing at the same time and the green lights just spin for 10-15 seconds and then stops. The same controllers work on my friends 360 that's why I think it's my 360 that's the problem.

I just took it a part with help from you tube videos and with it a part the controllers connected. I put it back together and they didn't connect. I then took the face plate off and they connected again. The face plate I got back from MS is some way blocking the wireless receiver.

Am I missing something to get this working properly so my receiver is getting the 5.1?

Update: After changing in the xbox settings my hd resolution from optimal (which was set to my pio's 768p resolution) to any of the other settings -- 720p, 1080p -- the audio on the hdmi began to automagically work.

Well, I just got an arcade sytem and the audio through HDMI would not work until I switched back in forth between audio formats on the console menu. Then the second time I went to play it it would no longer work. I cannot recreate what I did. What gives?? I have the HD set to 720 instead of automatic.

How about more info. A router has multiple outlets that a cable can be run from. Look at the back. If you don't have a router and you mean your modem then you will need a router. Using a wireless router you can get the MS wireless connections that plug into the USB port.

Alright so i have my 360 set up as a media center extender and it is hooked via ethernet directly to my dsl router, and the lag time is ridiculous it takes about 20-30 seconds for the commands to respond on the 360 for example if you push up it takes that long to respond. But here is the kicker when i play movies or music it streams them perfectly no lag at all. Can anyone help me this is extremely annoying. Thanks all.

Same exact problem here.. even with 8 bars in the Test network connection speed wizard! I posted in another thread and sent an email to an MS rep I met in a BB store.. I am still waiting for an answer.

Btw what OS are you running on your computer? I am running 64 Vista.

Cheers

I have a Belkin "G" router that is about 3 years old and I have been trying to play COD W@W in both the bedroom and the living room. The one in the living room is connected with about a 3 foot cable and I have a 50 foot cable running to the one in the bedroom. We put the game disc in each box and the person in the livingroom would invite the person in the bedroom to a party. Everything would seem to be running OK but as soon as the system would find a game to put us in it would drop one of us out of the room and wouldnt allow the the one that was dropped to enter that room even if there was space. Am I doing something wrong?

I bought the boys an XBox 360 for Christmas. I will not let them hook it up on my Panny so they are using a Toshiba 32A41 which is 32 inches, says it has 750 horixontal and 3 line digital comb filter. It has 2 A/V and S Video. I do not have surround for this so no 5.1 optical worries yet. Right now I used the componet that came with the S Video and put it on the non HD setting. I found the XBox 360 with S Video out on Monoprice and am thinking of getting it. Would this help with picture quality? Do I set it to HDTV or standard if it still has the switch?

yeah, s-video is worth upgrading to over composite. especially for the $6 or so monoprice charges. And you would set it to Standard def.

Got new Onkyo 806 Amp. I set up speakers and then Virgin HD cable TV box via hdmi, all works fine. I then tried Xbox 360...nothing, just blue screen on Phillips 42 1080i. Finally tried 6 plug Xbox comp lead and got a great picture and sound ( tested using COD Wow and Fifa 2009) with this but wondering why HDMI didnt work. The HDMI cable is fine as works going direct from xbox to TV and also success when tried from cable box to Amp.
Apologies for ignorance but all help greatly appreciated
Do I need to resent Xbox?

This isn't really a problem, but I'm not very knowledged with XBox and Live. I have a couple of questions:

1) If I only get a Live Silver account only, will it have all of the same free/paid DLC as Gold, or will there be any DLC/updates that I won't be able to access?

2) My internet connection is with my computer only. If I want to access Live using the same connection, is the best solution to set up a network using a router and buying the $90 wireless adapter for the 360?
My xbox 360 is around 1.5 years old. Treated well for the most part. I keep it cool and decently clean.. The problem is that for the last month or so my dvd drive doesn't want to load up games all the time.. It may take me 5 or 10 times of poping the disc in and out to get it to load. Once the game has loaded if I leave it in and leave the 360 on it will load the game no problem even if I go back to the play an arcade game or whatever..

Here is what has me totally confused.. I have a copy of the last remnant and it would not load up at all.. I'm talking 20 min of popping this sob in and out of my 360.. So finally I take the game out and give the area above the dvd drive a few taps with my knuckles.. Pop LR back in and BAM it works for the first time. Now after I did the knuckle thing my dvd drive made a different noise instead of a wierd kinda UUURRT (which means it's not going to load) noise it was smooth sounding and LR loaded up within seconds..

Any clues? Any idea's?

thanks

If it comes down to it I won't hesitate to pimp smack my 360 so I can play games. =)

I have a refurbished pro that MS sent me when my last 360 died.

After 5 minutes of gameplay it freezes, even with the hard drive and network disconnected. Tried different games and same thing. Then it started freezing at startup and the dashboard. Called support and they wanted me to clear the cache and see if that fixes it (???). Finally they sent me a label.

Sometimes content is delayed for Silver account holders, so Gold ones get it sooner. Silver members have to be patient. There may be some content or offers that only Gold members get.

Wireless is not a requirement, you could just use cable to a router if the router and Xbox are conveniently close to each other. But if you are buying a router, make sure it has wireless, and at least 802.11g. And if you plan to use wireless, check the Xbox compatibility list on www.xbox.com before buying the router.

Edit - added information:-

Another way of doing it, which I should have mentioned, is to use a wireless print server. This is a device that is connected to your Xbox via wire (don't purchase the Xbox 360 wireless gizmo), and the print server connects wirelessly to your router.

The advantage of this approach is that a wireless print server can concurrently connect multiple devices, other Xboxes, other consoles, computers and even printers.

It is about the same cost as the Xbox 360 wireless adapter, maybe cheaper.

This is my first post on the forums so please be gentle lol. I recently bought a 32LG30 LCD tv and originally had my X360 hooked up via Component Cables. The picture looks amazing. I had been reading that HDMI cables are the way to go, so I purchased one that microsoft offers for the 360. When using the HDMI cable I seem to get a darker picture than that of the components. Any suggestions such as settings or anything like that? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Check to see what option you've selected for black levels in video settings for the 360.

I have my PC on-line using a wireless broadband dongle, through 3g (my ISP). The name of the modem is a Huawei 3g i think. I have no phone line or router, my usb dongle is plug and play on any PC or laptop, giving me HDSPA access.

When i connect the modem to the xbox's usb nothing happens, other than a flashing light on the dongle indicating it is receiving power.

When i test the connection on the xbox's dashboard it says 'status - disconnected'.

Microsoft's call centre was hilariously unhelpful!

Can anyone pls pls help!? I am dying to play cod 4 and 5 on-line!!

i wouldn't think that would work. nothing on the xbox to drive a USB network adapter. i assume they wouldn't build in support for a product to replace the microsoft wireless adapter.

you need something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Linksys-Wirele.../dp/B0002M4HXC
it's a standalone device with an ethernet port, so your xbox thinks it's connected via a wire. the adapter i linked is an old one and it's slow (802.11b), but it's fast enough for your internet connection and i've used it for 5 years without any lag or problems.
cheers for the quick reply mate ill try that!
