Sorry, I did mean controllers. Thanks for your help. Sounds easy enough.

I'm trying to resolve a dilemma I've looked at for some time. I would like to use the HDMI out of my son's XBOX into my 1080p plasma. Not sure the PQ will be noticeably better than using Component connections, but I'd like to take advantage of the games that are in 1080p. The issue I have is the connector for the component video/RCA audio overlaps the HDMI output underneath it on the back of the XBOX. I HAVE to use both because I don't have an HDMI receiver, I'm just running L & R RCA into my 2-channel Integrated Amp. The amp does not have an optical in. So, as you see, I would like to use both the HDMI out and the audio part of the bulky connector out. But there's no room to plug in an HDMI cable. Does anyone have any solutions for this? Thank you for any help.

Remove the plastic cover on the back of the cable. Use a small blade to pry it apart at the seams. Takes 30 secs.

Or... buy an adapter Here

Thank you for this. However, regarding the adapter, I'm not understanding how it takes advantage of HDMI out of the XBOX into a 1080p TV?
It looks like you plug the adapter into the back of the XBOX via the HDMI end, but where is the other female HDMI end on the adapter that would
go to an HDMI cable that would be plugged into the HDMI IN of an HDTV? I'm missing something here, apparently. I may just opt to take the
plastic cover off the back of the cable.

One other question once I get this all figured out. I realize some XBOX games are now in 1080p and the rest are 720p. Once the video out of the XBOX is hooked up via HDMI, should the XBOX ALWAYS be set to output 1080p, regardless of whether the game is 720p or 1080p?

Thank you again for your help...

by removing the bulky casing, you can fit both the cable and the HDMI cable simultaneously. or if you get the audio adapter, the audio adapter has a much smaller casing so you can easily fit both the HDMI and the adapter at the same time. in the case of the audio adapter, you do not have to remove the casing.

When you set your Xbox to 720P, everything will be converted to 720P when it passes out of the Xbox to the TV as everything has to pass through the scaler chip before it reaches the TV. When you set the Xbox to 1080P, everything is scaled up to 1080P as it passes through the scaler to get to the TV, If the content is already 1080P, nothing is scaled and it passes through to the TV.

So yes, just set your Xbox to 1080P. The only time you would set it to 720P is 1) if your TV only accepts up to 720P, 2) you prefer the TV's scaler than the Xbox's scaler, or 3) you're using a 720P recorder like the Hauppauge HD-PVR. If you set your Xbox to 720P, any 1080P games (like Virtua Tennis) will be scaled down to 720P.

I'm having quite the problem with my setup. I hope someone can help... I've listed everything below:

Setup -

Epson 3010 Projector
Connects to a Monoprice HDMI Switch w/ toslink support (Prod ID 5557)
Xbox 360 is connected as one of the inputs on the Monoprice device. - Input 1
PS3 - Input 3
Audio - Samsung Bluray home theater in a box connected via Toslink to the switch.

Problem:

I cannot view HD video via my 360 from any source (Netflix, Zune, HD-DVD Player). I can play games without an issue and I have no issues viewing HD content using the Patriot box. I think there must be a colour setting on the xbox or a setting I am missing on my projector to view Video through the 360.

360 Display Settings
- 1080p
Reference Levels - Standard
HDMI colour Space - I have tried all settings to no avail currently set to Source
Display Discovery is currently turned on(tried it off, didn;t work either)

Projector Settings
Auto Iris - Normal
3D setup - Off
Over Scan - Off
HDMI Video Range - Auto
HDMI Link - On

That's everything I can think of. Anyone have any advice on how to fix this? Thanks in advance

Hi,

I have my xbox connected to an old CRT monitor via the official VGA cable. It is a Hitachi Superscan Elite 20. It looks like this:

Should I use standard or expanded reference levels with this monitor?

Hi,

I have an Xbox 360 Elite connected to my Pioneer VSX-522-k AVR via HDMI, which is connected to my Samsung LCD TV via HDMI. I have two front speakers and one subwoofer connected to the AVR. When I play games or stream Netflix videos that output Dolby Digital audio, the audio works as expected. However, when a Netflix video does not have Dolby DIgital available and outputs stereo audio instead, I get nothing out of my speakers. This also occurs if I go into my Xbox's settings and change the digital audio setting to stereo -- no sounds are produced at all. I don't believe this is a problem with my HDMI cables, because I have tried connecting the Xbox to the TV directly with each cable, and stereo audio worked as expected each time. Does anyone know what may be going on?

Thanks

Try by passing the mono price switch and if that is the cause, which I think it is.

Why they took away the auto setting is beyond me but to answer your question set it to standard.

I've had Xbox360 HDMI issues for years-Since I gave up my Elite (in 2010 for a 'S') and offical Xbox360 HDMI.

The HDMI signal grew weaker causing glitches and temporary loss of signal for the cheap HDMI cable.

I purchased the new Offical Xbox360 HDMI Cable and so far so good.....smile.gif

Pretty overwhelmed...

All, lots of interesting discussion here. After looking thru about the last 18 pages, my particular challenges remain.

How do I make sense of the Xbox 360 S 250 that I unboxed this morning?

Everything seems to work, as far as supplied games go. But trying to set up users and perhaps one master (administrator account for purchases) and allow access to to content for other users is highly non-intuitive. Sadly, I can't seem to get any of the net enabled content to move forward, i.e. EPix. press all the buttons, fill in all the blanks, get asked to input 6 digit activation code. Get sent to a website, repeat all the answers, get told "Whoo-hoo, you are all set". Nothing on screen, no email in box. No 6 digit activation code that I could find. How precisely do I activate the 1month Xbox Live Gold? How do I know if it is active or not after numerous attempts? Getting frustrated.

In short, I'm a floundering noob. Any advice or even a stern pointing of me to the "All noob questions answered here" Post that I missed would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Mike K

when you first create an Xbox Live account, it's a Gold account. that will be your 1 month. you hit your Xbox Guide button on the controller (the big X in the center of your controller). you go to the rightmost tab called settings. then select "Profile". you'll see your gamertag name in the upper right corner. if it's a yellow/gold color, it's an Xbox Live Gold account. If it's a gray/silver color, it's an Xbox Live Free account (formerly called Xbox Live Silver and still commonly referred as such by Xbox gamers).

you have multiple options for accounts:
1) create a local system account (no Xbox Live at all). this isn't really necessary as the Xbox Live Free account is free and has a lot more functionality)
2) create an Xbox Live Gold account for a single person
3) get the Xbox Live Gold Family pack which is 4 Xbox Live Gold accounts. 1 account is the administrator, responsible for the billing and management of the 3 subaccounts.

most of the apps are self-explanatory. some don't require any login. some do. some require that code and activation like you described. you load the app, follow the steps, get a code. then go to a web browser and type in the code which links the account to the app and then relaunch the app to watch your content.

You should also check the Xbox Live Support page which has a lot of good information:

http://support.xbox.com/en-US?xr=crumbnav

if you skipped the process of creating your free Xbox Live Gold account, you should see a social tab along the top of the screen (in-between home and games). this is the tab regarding your account. you should see a "join the fun" button as well as a sign in or out button. if you select the "join for fun" button, you can log in or create a new account. if you select "sign in or out" you'll see the standard account management stuff where you see all the gamertag profiles on your Xbox. if you scroll to the far right, you'll see "create a profile" and "download a profile". "create a profile" is to make one of the accounts I mentioned above. "download a profile" is to add an Xbox Live account that was created previously and is for people who have added a new Xbox to their other Xbox systems.

the home tab is the default page for your Xbox. the "my pins" is where you can pin your favorite websites, your favorite games, etc." recent is your most recently accessed games or apps. the apps tab is the central place for your apps. "my apps" are the apps you downloaded. "browse apps" shows the entire available selection of apps out there. note that each tab (whether it's social or games or tv & moves, etc. has a search button that's contextual meaning if you're on the games tab, it'll search games. if you're on the tv & movies tab, it'll search multimedia stuff. if you're on the music tab, it'll search music. the bing tab is a general search.

Are you using the Xbox VGA cable like this one: http://www.xbox.com/en-AU/Xbox360/Accessories/CablesNetworking/xbox360vgahdcable ? If I remember correctly, there's a switch on the side of the connector that goes into the Xbox, you have to make sure it's either on standard or HD, which ever one your TV is compatible. You need to go into the Xbox settings and change it to HD. I think you need to do that first with the switch set on standard so it will show up on the TV, then go into the Dashboard, Console settings and switch it to HD. Sorry if I'm mistaken, I'm trying to remember since I haven't used a non-hdmi Xbox for years.

This might help you: http://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-360/audio-video-setup-and-use/improve-video-quality

There is no switch on the VGA cable. The only cable that has the switch is the Component/Composite cable. The switch on that one choses between SD and HD.

I posted this in the regular Xbox thread before finding this one, so I apologize for posting twice.

I just noticed this issue recently. My Xbox is connected with HDMI to my Onkyo receiver, then HDMI out to my TV.

If I turn on my TV and amp first ( which are CEC controlled with each other), then turn on the Xbox last, everything is fine, and the amp lights up DD5.1.

However if I turn on the Xbox first, then the amp and tv , the amp does not light up DD5.1, only PLII.
If I go into the Xbox settings and toggle between stereo and DD, or if I start watching a movie on Netflix, and I toggle audio to "stereo", and back to "DD5.1", the amp will light up DD5.1.
Any ideas?

Don't bother answering guys, I already answered his question in his other thread.

Posting twice wastes everyone time.

It's too bad that this moron already told you the only solution that reliably works.

My Gears Slim is completely unresponsive. PS light is orange, but nothing turns on the console. It has less than 5 hours of use, as it's in my bedroom mostly for my hd-dvd viewing. About the only action it gets is getting accidentally turned on when it gets dusted (stupid sensitive dvd drive sensor). I've already googled and read about usb port problems and such, but I'm hoping someone here more knowledgeable has run into this and knows the issue. It's out of warranty, and I don't really want to send it off for repair. But I will if there is no known 'common' cure for diy'ers.

I just got the 3 RROD on my old, already replaced, XBOX 360. It looks like a lot of the links to fixes are dead (I tried finding the stuff linked around thread 1494).
I found this video series and I 'think' this might be the best fix but am not sure at this point, it's the lawdawg fix: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7F6iKy8ALOQ
Can someone tell me if they think that assumption is correct (that this is the best fix to try) and point me to the 'parts' list for this video, all the links I've chased are dead.
Google is giving me a bunch of, well basically ads, (what else is new)!
Thanks, I thought I was going to make it until the next xbox came out but I was wrong!
Hey guys.
I'm having an audio problem thats really irking me off and I can't figure it out.

I have a new Xbox 360, the one with the internal HDD (I've been out of the xbox scene for awhile so forgive me)

Anyways if I try to load up a music folder with say 200 songs, it either just sits there spinning (the little loading logo that is) or takes 15 minutes plus to load them up to play.

So I've tried my 30gb SSD USB external drive. a USB flash drive, and my sony walkman mp3 player. It does the same thing for all of them.

Am I missing something? My friends old xbox 360 loads up his 160GB i-pod in a couple minutes.

I plug in the drive via any one of the USB.
Bring up the guide.
Go the the music blade and say play music
Select the folder.
and sit there while it the circles spin.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Recently got a Samsung ES7500 and a new Samsung E5500 home theater. I'm not too knowledgeable about hooking everything up in the ideal manner, and i've hit a road block getting my Xbox sound to come through the home theater. My Xbox is an older model, so no HDMI, just component, so I hooked the red green and blue cables from the Xbox to the component ports on the TV, set the Xbox to HDTV and connected an optical audio cable to the home theater receiver directly from the Xbox, but am not able to get the Xbox sound through the TV. Anyone know what i'm doing incorrectly here? Thank You!

Or I guess it's a F5500 home theater....but I don't really think it matters.
