How are we defining "most beautiful song ever" now?
Is it SONG or music?
If it's SONGS, what kind of songs; "songs" have been in existence for hundreds of years.

A slow afternoon in the warehouse today so I tried to think of a few songs that still raise the short hairs when I hear them.....

ie. Pink Floyd, Paul McCartney, Linkin Park, Rammstein to name a few, most shows occur in the summer festival in my City.

Ozzy Osbourne (post-70's Sabbath) is just too whiny-sounding when he sings to ever sound beautiful to me.

I've never heard that song, but only if someone with a more appropriate voice was singing would it stand a chance with me.

Which recording did NASA use for Voyager? Deutsche Grammophon?

I'm not sure if they used an actual recording by a record label as opposed to their own recording....

It is interesting to note that Johnny B Goode by Chuck Berry is also on that recording...

Looks like they used a recording from the Munich Bach Orchestra. Google only brought up one cd, but no recording dates are listed. The album cover does look like it was recorded back in the day. Nothing from Wiki, though.

Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah has been mentioned many times in this thread performed by various artists but the KD Lang rendition is by far the best in my opinion, after that is the Rufus Wainwright version from Shrek.

I 100% agree kd lang's version is by far the best and I am 100% American...

When I was younger I had a built in "beauty" meter in the hair follicles of my forearms. I'm fifty now. They don't work as well. It's a real shame.

Used to be that new Beatles, Allman Brothers, Joni Mitchell, Van Morrison, or other songs would do it for me. Hell, once it was a song called "Who We Are" by a band called CAMEL.

Later on it might be something by Seal, Tom Waits, Talk Talk, U2 or other that I was into in college. But it was happening less and less. I remember around that time when "1979" came on for the first time while riding in my car. I almost had to pull over. Goosebumps. I don't think music ever gets less beautiful.... we just lose a little of our emotionally raw connection to it as we age.

Just when I thought I'd lost that musical intimacy forever, one evening some years back Sarah McLachlan breaks out on the radio with "Adia". There was that old familair rush of blood to the head and goosebumps on my arms.

Thanks for that Sarah! Won't say it's the most beautiful song ever, but it reached in there were all else had failed to for years. Someone mentioned Rufus Wainwright. If you like him you ought to give his sister Martha a listen on her self titled 2005 disc. Wow. Beautiful stuff there and there's a family resemblance. In a similarly beautiful vein is Beth Orton's "Trailerpark" cd.
