BB-Dec 18 camp out time? - Page 2

It seems BB is waiting so they can organize a second shipment. For whatever reason I have no idea... Just sell the 360s!!!
Thanks for the quick response guys. I will update my brother on what is going on. I can't see the lines being as long as launch because it seems this organized shipment from Best Buy's has not been advertised. I could be wrong though. I know it has been posted around the internet but a good number of hard core gamers already have their units from waiting in long lines. It should be interesting come Saturday night into Sunday morning to see what happens. Thanks again :)

I'm still waiting for February of 2005, when I can probably buy one off the shelf....

By then plenty of used 360 games will be $30 each on EBWORLD online ;)

I thought the whole rumor was BB is waiting to sell their 2nd shipment on the 18th because there was supposed to be a BB ad yesterday in the paper which said they would have 360's in stock 12/18. However, looking at yesterdays BB newspaper ad I see no mention anywhere of the 360.
It will probably be in the 12/18 ad.

Might be true, but it wouldn't make as much sense. If they would have done it yesterday it would have been telling everyone they'll have XX amount guaranteed in stock next Sunday at opening. This would allow people to go camp out or whatever it is they need to do to get one.

If they put it in the flyer next Sunday, by the time anyone actually reads it and goes to the store to buy one they'll be long gone, which makes the ad pointless.

Actually that's the whole point. It will be in the paper and people will rush down to BB hoping to get one, not find one and at that point the sharks at BB can try and sell them a PSP or something else. They will have all the other consoles etc lined up nice and pretty to attract people to them.

Gees Mr. you can't get an 360 and look it's already the 18th. Better get little Johnny something else...
BB likes the publicity it gets from people camping out in front of their store. They had the local newspaper come and take pictures of the first launch campers. I am sure they will do it again...
It'll be great....they'll have another 40 people line up for 8 systems. And those 8 systems will go immediately to ebay, where you can still fetch $300 ormore for your system.

I doubt it, people and their kids know what they want for Christmas and there's no mistaking or substitute for the real deal. PSP has been around for a while now, and the 360 is the game machine of choice that is hard to come by especially for the holidays. Of course if they get something they don't want (PSP) return for credit for a later purchased 360.
Reports show that most best buys will be receiving around 40 units (the ones in more populated areas) ... less populated will receive about 20 ... this is going off a site that had this same information available back on the 22nd and they were extremely accurate for my area (Philadelphia, PA)
But the problem is that because they are STILL fetching $$ on ebay, every one will be sold no matter if people want them or not. People going in there to buy a laptop will add a 360 to their pile if they are there, JUST to sell on ebay.

Its past the point of "satisfying the market" now......every one that hits will get put up on ebay, because of the frenzy.

It will take until the end of January I am guessing before people finally "give up" trying to getting rich on them on ebay........and they start to sit on store shelves.

Once again, I can wait...if you thought the first line-up fiasco was bad, if word of this release on the 18th gets widespread coverage, it'll be even worse than before.
definitely won't be end of January until people "give up" on trying to get rich ... that is the american dream ... unless there is a huge release at once or until the demand on ebay diminishes (won't happen any time soon with these "trickle" releases to stores), I don't see how this frenzy will end with in 3 months

Well the good news is that MS will not be sending too many replenishment units to Japan :)
More for US/Canada.

I wish I was in CA, so that I could camp out with FourDoor!!
If it is as organized as last time it won't be so bad. When you show up they write your name down then you wait. When they reach their quota they start sending people away...
But it was NOT organized at my local BB and many others across the country, as when some BB required bundled/addon sales. My BB had about 20+ waiting in line for that Nov 22 launch and did not open till 9:10 for an advertised 9 am opening. Well when they did the 20+ waiters found out they had previously let some 40+ customers in well before the 9 am advertised timeframe and they had sold out their store allotment already. The BB managers/employees did not have the decency/nerve to come outside and tell anyone waiting they had already let others in much earlier than the store had been advettised to open, But they did announce that there were still plenty of xbox 360 accessories anyone could purchase if interested. :(:( argh....

SO IF BB does this type "re-launch" they should be required to have a BB Corporate policy as how the campout situation will be handled at every store. Like do you have sign up sheets, or just come and wait in line, do they give out numbered tickets, can you hold your girlfriends spot in line while she goes to the restroom or sleeps in the car, etc etc......

My nephew got approval and has joined a planned BB campout group of some 26 teens and 6 adults planning on going with them.

I think I'll see if I can go with my brother in law early on Sunday morning to see how bad the lines are since he's still looking for one for my nephew.

You are more than welcome to come out here FD. I don't plan to camp out this time but if you do come out here, I'll go buy a generator and I'll bring the extra X1 and the 360, and we can play some COD2 and H2 on the side of the BB building while we wait.  :D

*thinks about how to mount X1 to back of the truck.*

I can't believe they would release the 360s with such a bad organized plan. We had numbers given to us after they took your name down on a list. That should be standard for any new release product that requires a line for it...

Plan.. Ha! BB has no plan. What time did you get in line? Did you leave and come back after you got a number? Mine has no idea what they are doing yet. At least that is what these BB nasty people are saying. God forbid you ask them. Last time they gave numbers out the night before. Those people left and came back. Other people in lin in the morning had no idea.. BB really has a lot to learn on customer relations and service. I hope they get their ass sued off for all the crap they pulled the last time.

We had a BB worker in the head tent which was yellow. She took your name and gave you a number. You had to stay in line the rest of the night though. You could go to your car for a break if needed though. You just weren't allowed to leave altogether. And in the morning they came and let us in the store at 9:00AM. Then we all stayed in our line spot and got our systems...It was actualy fun and we had a lot of laughs...Sorry your BB sucked...

What do you expect my BB is in NY.. There were no laughs here, just almost a riot. Where the cops were called..
That's to bad people can't get together and have a good time over a coll product. They need to keep track of the line and when it exceeds the number of units turn the rest away from standing in line. That way there is less chance of a riot if people were in line ALL night and got nothing...There must be IDIOTS running these launches!!!
Not that I'm a big fan of Best Buy or anything like that. But I dont think its fair for them to be expected to do anything out of the ordinary when it comes to selling these systems other than having them in stock (if they say they will be) when doors open in the morning.

Why should they HAVE to put any extra effort into planning and overnight event, paying employees overtime to hang out in the cold all night with people camping out, and making sure the systems are given out fairly to people waiting in line? I don't think any of these stores are telling people to come camp out near their stores, if that's what you want to do its your business, but don't expect every retailer to go out of their way to accommodate that decision.

You also have to remember, Best Buy is not obligated to sell you anything. If they wanted they could walk to the very end of the line and hand every person there a 360. While this wouldnt be too fair to the people in the front of the line, there's nothing they could do about it from a legal standpoint.

joe, that's the point, i'm glad your launch day success went nice and smoothly, BUT for many of us it did not. Idiots or not it made for some ill will toward BB.

Since BB has decided to have this type "re-launch" and how they are holding them for this guarantee of minimum stock and just so they can actually advertise them in their Christmas week ads to draw customers into the stores and not just put them out for sale as other stores are doing, they are setting themselves and customers for the same type things to happen again. And being that they do know that this can occur, you would think just to cover their a**es they would have a BB Corportate policy on how the situation should be handled. And that should be posted on their website and at the stores for people to see.

We understand the right to sell but what about the right to have common sense when releasing a popular product? How can one store have a fun and organized launch while another is a huge MESS?

Because maybe, just maybe that store doesn't care about selling 360's. Maybe they have something better to sell in their eyes (something they make more of a profit on). Maybe they are already busy with the xmas season and dont have time to do extra stuff just to please hardcore gamers who think its a good idea to camp outside of a store just to have the privilege of spending their money on something. Maybe the people working there, including the managers have a life outside of working for a retail giant that they probably couldn't care less about, and don't want to spend time doing extra work such as making up lists of names, printing up tickets, playing police officer in the line, etc. Those are a few thoughts.
We all know that from the launch the local BB managers were unorganized in their own ways. Some forced ridiculous bundles while others as stated above did not set the lines properly. All against what corporate had laid out for them.

At the end of the day, even if corporate mandates a certain way of execution, it is still up to the local manager and employees to to cary out those wishes.

Personally, I really do hate buying at Best Buy due to bad expereinces in the past with them. But desperate times call for desperate measures and I can make this exception to purchase from them if they do have them in stock when nobody else does.

You go ask them a 360 ? here and they get down right nasty. Like How dare you, don't you know we will have no more until Jan 2006.. Give me a brake.. BB really sucks.. Get a policy out there to the store managers. When customers ask a 360 ? be polite and give them a straight / correct answer. That is all I am asking for...

Well no more BB for me. Like I said I know they will blow the second one like the first one and I hope they get their ass's sued big time..
