The Official Untreated Do-able Only Thread - Page 29

I bought some do-able this weekend at Home Depot in Bothell, WA. On Tuesday I went to my H.D. in Everett, WA and they had 12 sheets but when I got back there on Sunday with the Expedition, only one was left and it had a nice scratch in the middle...I was very annoyed...but they had numerous sheets in Bothell.

I threw the sheet on the wall, fired up my Hitachi and am very, very happy with the pic. It seems a lot nicer than the blackout cloth I had used for the past few weeks. For $25 for the sheet and the mirror clips, awesome.

I framed off the back with runs of 1x2s, then used liquid nails and finishing nails to adhere the pieces together:

Once the backing was in place, I used strips of 90 degree molding, cut to size and then mitered.

When the fit was right, I used flat black paint and rolled it on:

When the paint was dry, we just assembled the pieces using finishing nails again, tacked into the 1x2s on the back, from the side. You can kind of see the nails in this pic:

Finished product...

I just picked up a Mitsubishi HD1000 and couldn't be happier.

All images are being driven by my media pc running MythTV on top Gentoo Linux.

My throw is 11 ft. producing a 92" viewable size when fully zoomed out.

what's the largest size Do-able panel anyone here has found?

Asking because I will have a Do-able wall area of 119"X 63" (not quite that wide since I will have wall mounted Axiom M22s as fronts on the outside of the screen)....
Willie-
Largest available is 49"x97".
Q is, can you find it in OK?

haven't shopped for it locally yet since I still haven't had the finances to upgrade to a LR HT yet...I'll check on my next trip to HD or Lowe's.

I would love to get one over 100" if possible or just paint the wall (not spending $600 for a screen)

thx for the info.

If you want something approaching 140" diagonal, you'll have to either consider something else with similar properties, or accept at least three seamed lines.

Two sheets hung vertically might garner you your 60" height easily enough, but you cannot go out beyond 98" wide with 49" panels.

Other excellent options await you elsewhere if you look....some that require no painting just as Doable does not. If you cannot find something akin to Doable, and MUST have "LARGE", don't fret....others can steer you "rightly". Good luck.....and good hunting.

Just wondering if there's one bigger than 4X8..NOT looking to fill the entire wall area though.

thx

I do not believe that there is a piece larger than the standard 4x8 that they sell. I know that many on this thread have tried to call them for special sizes, but to no avail.

Also, you can get screens for cheaper than $600. PM if you want info on where I got my 120in electric screen to replace my Do-able (long story) for a reasonable price.

Has anyone in Ontario (Canada, not Cali) spot Do-able in Home Depot? Preferably in the Toronto area? I only need a 76" screen so small ones are fine as well.

Yeah, he's gonna have a tough time using anything like doable. I'd recomend maybe going with BOC or something like that.

did anyone elses do-able board have an imperfection on it. I got a slight one on the top, and i didnt notice it untill i hung the screen, and projected a white image. it can also be seen on lighter images. do you think it is worth it to go look for another one without imperfections?

Yes, no one has reported it being sold at any store over here.
im getting very very very little hotspotting thats not really noticable, and i have sparkles in the middle of the screen...

If there's any spots on the board where the finish has been rubbed smooth by the stacking of the boards at the store, then you will get hotspotting and sparkles in those areas. I would see about getting a board with less imperfections.

Any alternative for us here on east coast?

ClosetMaid
1/4 In. x 49 In. x 97 In. MDF White Satin Vinyl Finish Paneling
Model 63036
SKU 174278
Clear 48 In. 96 In. .25 In.

That is what shows up at my local store. I am assuming that definitely is not right? Same model # and sku#.

Roger,

I know Do-able Products changed over to ClosetMaid so I would bet this is the same stuff. Same price? If so, it's not like you'd be breaking the bank. Even so, don't have HD cut it, take it home and try it out. You could return it if need be.

Where do you reside?

It is $14.98 so about a dollar more expensive. I am going to pick up a sheet today. If it doesn't work too well I am only out 14 dollars.

I reside in Southern California. The High Desert to be exact. I will create a new post with the Home Depot store number if it is the correct stuff so that it may be added to the original post.

More importantly to some, do they make a 5'x 10' sheet under this new name?
Check out the Home Depot. Was still listed as Do-Able but was now 14.98.
