I am finally adding to my setup. I have had RTI6's and a CSI5 for years now and am adding a BIC F12 sub. It should get to the house today! I can't wait to play with the settings and crossovers and dial it all in.

I have the BIC F12, and I like it a lot. Set your receiver's crossover to 80hz (all speakers to small), switch on sub to the "digital 5.1/7.1" setting, crossover knob all the way up, and volume around 4, and adjust from there (with the sub-out level on the receiver and/or the sub's volume knob).

If you have Finding Nemo -- skip to the "Darla" scene (where she's tapping on the fish tank) -- great way to "calibrate" your sub!

What's the difference between the first series Monitor 60 (AM6025-A) and the Monitor 60 (AM6095-B) Series II?

One has a grey face plate, the other has a Black faceplate

that is the only difference

If its random I'd guess something is failing in the amp.

This has happened probably 4 times and has always came back on however I have not paid attention and timed the return of power. A safety reset would make sense. I did contact Polk and all they said was that it could be a failed amp on my PSW 1000? and take to service centre. I will unplug and time the power return a couple of times.

My "open box" Monitor 70 should be here today. Aside from visual inspections is there any way to test it to ensure it's functioning properly? Obviously listening for a blown speaker but didn't know if there was anything else to check.

Hey all, currently looking for some options for my surrounds to complete my HT setup. I currently have Monitor 70s for my fronts, CS2 center, and klipch 12" for sub, with Onkyo 509 reciever.

I will be running a projector and I wanted to use my older Monitor 60s for rears but I dont think I will have room, I was thinking of Monitor 40s, but how big are they, say compared to the CS2?

I was also looking at the in ceiling polks to install above my theater seats, they have gotten solid reviews on newegg, but has anyone testes them hear?

I am referring to Polk Audio RC60i White Round 6.5s.. Thanks!

Also Mudfrog, I think the best way is to just test them out. I play different cds and listen to each speaker where high mids lows should be coming out, and also play some audio cds and tests through the receiver where it plays the tones on each channel.

Funny you mentioned this...About 30 mins ago I received my open box cherry 40's from the egg. I unboxed them, checked for damage and plugged them in...sound great. I suggest you do the same.

Interestingly enought the packaging I received shows no sign of being open...looks just like the box and packaging my black 40s came in (similar to the rest of my monitors too). All paperwork there unopened, bags around speakers, sealed polk monitor box etc.

I just checked the measurements of my 40's and 60's, except for height obviously...they both are roughly 12x7 inches (l and w). My CS2 is roughly 21x10x8 inches. For reference the 40s are roughly 15.5 inches tall.

Even funnier you should mention that as I actually had those in cart the same day. I was debating on pulling the trigger since the rest of the setup is black. When I finally decided to they had been removed from my cart. Looks like you got them. I think it was last Wed? Anyway, I started looking after I lost the 40's and found the 70. So thanks

Good to hear that they came in good shape. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

lol yes it was last wed. I was trying to get the open box 50s that day, but they got removed from my cart before check out...grabbed the 40's instead. I got them to replace the black 40s in my sons room. He wanted the cherry one initially, but the blacks were on sale so he got those instead. But about a month later I "borrowed" them for the pc rig. Now he has the cherry ones and not bad for $77 shipped.

I have M40's in the bedroom and they have plenty of range for that size room, approx 10x14 but tried them once in the family room and they were definitely too small for that room. I considered using them as rears in our living room (M70's, CS20, M60 surrounds, twin Klipsch Sub12's) but the 40's are quite deep. So instead I am using two CS2's for the rear channels. Stood on end, they are shallower than the M40's, and because of their beveled edge - what would be the top or bottom if used as a center - they can fit into a corner quite nicely. I have them sitting on top of video cabinets... DVD/BD racks in the corners behind the main seating positions.

The M60 surrounds are unobtrusive, especially compared to the 70's up front. I have them directly next to some large bookcases on either side of the recliners.

$77 shipped was the only reason I was going to buy them. The 70 ended up being $119 shipped which is still a pretty good deal. Now I need to pick up another. I'm waiting for the sale to end today, hopefully it will come back down to $150 in the next week or so. If not I'll just bite the bullet and grab them for anything under $200.

I see you have CS2's as rears...interesting, I was going to try that as well and rig them from my ceiling! I think the cs2s sound great, how do you like them as rears?

I think they're terrific! Unfortunately they didn't work so well as the center... good, but not good enough. Seemed to have trouble with female voices. I bought a second one so I'm sure I didn't just get a bad one (at $99 each who could pass that up?)

I had previously done the same thing with CS1's... tucked into the corners they were hardly visible, and CS2 is only slightly larger. When I decided to upgrade the center to a CS20, which is indeed a bit brighter, I boxed up the CS1's and put the CS2's in their places. The CS2's have much better presence than the CS1's and blend better with the sound stage presented by the M70's. The CS1's as rears were a bit too "forward" if you know what I mean. They stood out too much.

Now I have a pair of M50's and two CS1's that I'm not using for anything because they were frankly just too small. With CS2 rears and M60 sides everything blends together very well. I keep thinking maybe I'll set up the excess speakers in the spare bedroom or laundry room or something.

Thanks for your reply! Yes at 99 dollars for the cherry ones, they are a pretty good deal! I may try that, but i'l have to see if I can find a proper mount to do that, or I might have to go with a ceiling type rear speaker.

Mine are black, but to each their own You mentioned possibly suspending them from the ceiling... screw eyes and wire would work. If I had a proper theater room, that's what I'd do. After my mother died I considered possibly moving into her house. The basement had a HUGE room that would have made an excellent theater... already had acoustical tile and wood paneling. But I really didn't need a larger house. As we approach retirement if anything I need to start thinking about downsizing. A-a-a-anyway...
Yeah I would like to suspend them from the ceiling, I think they would look nice, here are some barebones pics of my basement and where I anticipate my projector will go(8700ub).

Monitor 70s on the sides, CS2 in front, not sure where to place the sub in this room...have a look...wife blacked out, lol...

Huge room... good luck with that, especially with the open back. You may actually need something larger than the 70's, but that's certainly a good place to start.... wouldn't even consider anything smaller than that. I recently upgraded the family room from Tsi's to RTi's and the difference is notable.

BTW regarding the subs, I have one in the front and one on the side.
Its not quite as big as it looks. There will be a lot more furniture and such filling the room eventually. I would love to get Rti, but they are quite a difference to the M70's price. I guess I will have to test when I move everything and see how it goes....

Do you think the CS2's would be too big to mount above/behind the chairs on the ceiling?
Received the Monitor 70. Newegg did a horrible job packing it. It was loose and just banging around in the box. One of the feet is cracked in half, and I have counted at least 4 dents / chips in cabinet. I have a feeling I'll be sending this back.
I don't know much about Polk speakers but I'd like to know what you would recomend as their best two channel speaker. (new)

Bummer. Usually they do a better job than that. You should have no problem getting them to eat it.

Most bang for the buck IMO would be the RTi A9's http://www.polkaudio.com/homeaudio/r...ex.php?s=rtia9
I don't own them personally, but if I could afford them, that's what I'd want.

Dunno.... if you have a CS2 for use at center, I'd say play with it a bit. They do go on sale pretty often.

Look for their new LSiM line of speakers. If those are out of your price range look for the recently discontinued line of LSi speakers. You can find some great prices on Polk's ebay page. LINK

Are you looking for a bookshelf or tower speaker?

that is pretty subjective. you looking for a bookshelf or tower? towers with or with out a sub?

a safe bet would be to check out the LSiM or the older LSi lines. the LSi are 4 ohm speakers. I am not sure on the newer LSiM's, I havent really researched them yet.

The RIi A line can also be very good for 2 channel applications and cheaper then the new LSiM's. Best bang for the buck though is getting some LSi's on close out. I've seen great deals on the entire range from polks ebay store, and from Frys.

both the LSi and RTi A lines like lots of good clean power. What you planning on powering them with?

Good choices for modern speakers. SDAs, especially modded, are the best 2 channel experience I've had with Polk speakers. They are over 20 years old and very large, but there's still a market for them...upgrade the tweeters and crossovers and the'll last another 20-25 years as something really special.

Well they said they would send me a replacement so we'll see if they actually do or not.
