Man that really sucks! Hopefully no issues with the return policy on the seller part and I will also hope they will do everything to ensure you will have a replacement speaker in no time.

Sorry again to hear about your problem.

Make sure the brass straps that connect the upper and lower posts on the rear are both screwed down tight!

They are screwed extremely tight. I purchased these direct from Polk Audio on their EBay store. Hopefully, they will send a new one out quickly....

Sorry to see your troubles. Since you got it from Polk Direct, maybe they can just send out a new tweeter to swap out? Sounds like that might be easier.

Suggestions?

My room measures; 26 x 15.5 x 7.5, also in a finished basement.

They can send a replacement tweeter IF its the tweeter thats the problem. Isn't there electronics which could be at fault? Not sure why tweeter could possibly be blown on a brand new out of the box speaker.

Do the other drivers work? plus you tried switching sides with the speakers right?

The other drivers seem to be working. I have tried switching sides with the speakers...

Okay, try loosening the screws that hold the tweeter in place and carefully pull it out so you can see if any of the wires have a loose connection.

Will that void my warranty?

No. Making a modification would.

If it's a bad tweeter, Polk would have you pull out the bad one so they can swap out a good one.

They use hex screws - and my set is at work. Darn...

No worries, you can borrow mine

Give Polk a call in the morning and let them know what you've got. They will most likely tell you to pull the tweeter and look at it.

At any rate, I've been on the PolkAudio forum for a couple of years and I've seen this happen before, it's just an easy swap.

Best - O - luck to you brother

Just noticed that newegg USA has deactivated the cherry Monitor30's. Would this mean that we no longer would be able to get these and that the black monitor 30's will follow soon?

Bummer. I've had those come straps loose so I just had to mention it. I just bought pairs of RTi8's, RTi10's, RTi4's and a Csi5 from Polk's eBay store within the past month and had no problem other than a simple shipping issue. Glad I got mine and not yours!

Geoff is right though... it's far more likely to be a lose wire than a blown driver. Good luck!

It's highly unlikely that they would actually discontinue selling any of the Monitor line. Most likely they are simply sold out but do not yet have a new delivery date from Polk.

Working with Polk Support now. I tried swapping out the tweeters and that helped determine it wasn't a problem with the tweeter. Therefore, they say its the crossover and are going to send me a new one. That means I have to try to put that in myself. Hopefully it won't be too hard.

Nicely done! You'll do well, in fact, after this experience, you'll helping your buds upgrade and modify their crossovers

Not real happy with having to open up the speakers and do the changeover - but I am pretty happy thus far with Polk's technical support. Pretty responsive.

Getting those tweeters out for the first time wasn't real easy.

I also have to put replacement tweeters in my old Sony SS-TL3 speakers. Turned out I could not get a factory replacement and had to find a couple replacements (so that they would at least match). Those should be in soon.

Yeah, sorry to hear that bro, can't blame you there. At least Polk is pretty understanding as well and offers that great support.

I've had nothing but great dealings with them over just the past two years.

That's how long I've been a polk owner but they've been around for long time providing great service.

I hope it is a case of, as you say, them not having a delivery date. It would be pretty dumb of them to discontinue this cash cow at this point in time since at the price point it is not competing with anything else they are selling. It is the first time that I have seen them deactivating a product just for being out of stock though. Newegg Canada deactivated the Polks on their site and never sold them again.

Loved going from my Monitor 60's to the LSi 15's. Quite a leap.

What are you going to power them with, an external amp of some sorts I hope .

I suspect you're going to love those over the M70's. Please get some clarity in those photos

I just ordered a set of Polk OWM3's for L+R Surrounds. I tried cancelling the amazon order to get a set of Polk Audio Monitor 30's, alas, I had waited too long. Will I be missing out alot if I used the om3's over the 30's? In the coming weeks, we will be purchasing Monitor 60's or 70's for the fronts, an will be moving the 50's to the surround positions at the sides, an the owm3's to rear surrounds. So, 60's or 70's up front, A CS2 at center. 50's at Surrounds. an OWM3's as surround backs. Sound ok? Should I try an sell the OWM3's in favor of M30's? sell the owm3's an the 50's in favor of either 2 sets of m30's or owm3's as surrounds an surround backs? What would you guys do?

Well I have moniter 50's and a Cs1 for the front stage. Then moniter 30's as surrounds and OWM3's as surround backs. I was also going to get 2 pairs of 30's but decided on the OWM3's being that my surrounds are wall mounted. I had them as surrounds at first but then learned that your surrounds are more important then your surround backs. I switched them around and feel the OWM3's work much better as surround backs sitting on their stands. Now don't get me wrong they weren't bad as surrounds, they are just better as surround backs.

I was a bit worried at first with an 80hz crossover being that they apparently start to roll off at 100. I just set my crossover to 100 but it seemed that male voices seemed quieter as opposed to 80. Recently changed it back to 80 and watched Tron and X-Men First class and they sounded great. I had been second guessing the OMW3's but playing MW3, splinter Cell and Resident Evil 5 along with watching those two movies I feel the OWM3's are great speakers and I'm not missing a thing. In fact I feel the OWM3's sound better back there then the Moniter 30's just as the Moniter 30's sound better as surrounds lol. Prob. has some to do with the fact the the OWM3's are sealed and it makes noo difference how close the rears of them are to the back wall. In any case I hope this helps you some, I have no regrets lol.

Does Surround and surround backs have the same load? can I expect the sam frequencies coming from them? I'm trying to convince myself that surrounds and surround backs will not produce enough bass to warrent having a full range speaker back there. I read in different places that surrounds range is not that great, an bigger speakers are only needed in cases where 5/7 channel music is listened to. So, lets say that the system will be used mainly for movies an games. I guess what I am trying to decide is, should my surrounds an surround backs be at the same height, same size, or is having smaller 30's or owm3's as backs an a floorstander as surrounds match ok. This is going into a living room where floorstanders look kinda wierd in back. The gf is understanding, but to a point
post #12899 of 18674
Anybody running the FXi5 for surrounds and RTi4 for back surrounds? I currently have the RTi4 at the surround position with RTi10 and CSi5. I have a 4311ci for reciever that would be powering all except for the RTi10's.

Have you tried listening to music with the OWM3s? I'm thinking of getting either those or T15s or perhaps M30s for surrounds, but I also listen to some 5.1 music sometimes. Thanks.
