I was referring to street price, of course. Gifts and thrift store finds are an entirely different matter.

Crown does make a quality product. Mine is forty years old and was still a marvelous piece of engineering when I mothballed it a couple years ago (it's among all the other seventies gear I mentioned a few posts back). Not every model though is appropriate for home use.

The Jamo's went for ~$500. These are simply blow out pricing.

My DC300A is still kicking and measures above factory spec. Yep, you have to pay attention and get a model that is intended for the application.

It's quite clear there was an A/B.

I just re-read the meeting post on the Polk boards (http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/show...hlight=indiana) that was referenced in the Sunfire going to head to head with the XPA-2. There was no XPA-2 for A/B compare so that poster is joking, or he is making his assessment based on two different listening sessions one with each piece.

Please note there are pics of all the gear, and you will not the absence of a XPA or Emotiva box in all of them.

John's broken in post was meant to say that the Sunfire there might not have broken in its part and as a result might not have given its best showing as a result.

It is time to move forward... I can and will be as friendly with you as you are with me, but if you try and use my threads and my words out of context to advance a point of view that is wrong, I will call you on it every time.

Peace!

I will say, John that your photos were the first time I've seen fire bottles in probably over 40 years

Where his Carver hits the wall the 1500 will still have plenty of head room and positive at this point it will be a better amp.

Headroom alone does not make for a better amp. I agree with you that the Crown likely will have more gas in the tank than the Carver and higher volume, but that is not the point.

The point is which one will sound better at normal listening levels, without tweaking the output of one to level-match the other. I will be honest amd say that having never heard the Crown, and not being a huge fan of Carver gear after Bob and his talent left the company, I am not certain how this battle royale would play out.

If the Shadow is up to having you do your thing, I am interested to see how it would play out.

Not to toot my own horn to loudly, but these two amps are the sexiest amps I have ever seen.

The nice thing is that Mr. C said the same thing when he saw the girls for the first time.

Thanks!

Coming from the guy that with their 1st post on AVS begins with name calling.

Concealer is the one that said 'The last Indiana Gathering i went to, we all realized at the same time'. Take it up with that person. I take it for what was said: The XPA-2 and Sunfire sounded exactly the same. Whether through recollection or direct A/B. I don't even care about that point. Its the 'Sounds exactly alike' that I was referring to.

If you are going to quote a joke that, once presented and verified as such, as the basis for which to form your opinion, I guess that your opinion is a joke as well. To say you don't care "about that point" only reinforces it for everybody else to see.

Thanks for that.... now, shall we move on?

I had the pleasure of seeing these in person before they were fully finished and man are they sweet looking!

I cant wait till I can get out to Cali to HEAR them on his Maggie 20.1's

Back to Polk.....

Thanks Sandworms... These amps have been my babies now for more than a year. Just getting the granite work done was an exercise in patience, taking more than 4 months of plotting work to get right. If anyone is interested, I will make a thread over at the DIY thread with pics showing the progress.

There is no doubt that they will be the last amp I ever own, or need. I have begun the layout work for another pair that will be even more detailed than these are, but that build is on hold until we move into a house.

I'll ask again, can you guys PLEASE take this discussion to a thread where it fits? While interesting, not exactly within context.

Is anyone here using RTi A9s with a SVS PB12 Plus. If yes, could you please share with me your impressions?

Stick with option 2. I recently sold my Monitors to a local in my area. I had the 70's fed with my XPA-2. When I set them to full for a 2ch demonstration, the buyer felt good about not having a sub yet. I set them to full again for a video demo of IronManII and did the "kill box" scene, the 70's offered plenty of bass while being fed a good amount of power.

The sight of that cord may give you wood, but the price will knock the wind out of your sails

sad but true, he may have paid more for that pc than I paid for my amp and pre together ( onkyo 805-parasound 1205a )

I know this is the Polk thread. And I own several pairs of Polk speakers. But when I read the below comment I really LOL'd! That comment and many of your posts in this thread all full of so much misinformation I am astounded really.

Hi Halo,

Here is a more informed and balanced post. 98% of the SQ is in the speakers. Dorokusai actually works for Polk.

It wasn't a joke and anyone can go and read the thread ... People even made supposition that the Sunfire and Emotiva were kissing cousins.

As usual you think your interpretation and/or opinion constitute fact for everyone else.

So....on a lighter note. Can anyone explain to me, or better yet show some pics, how models like the RTi70 incorporate the ports in the design? The front bezel has the small port. Then there is that power port thing on the bottom of the cabinet. Just wondering.

Pics or a cutaway would be sweet!

You could try giving polks tech guys a call, they might even email you some pics. Worth a try if you're really interested.

I might do that Geoff. Thanks....

Jason...please read post #13253.

For anyone interested, the Egg has RTi6's on sale this weekend for half price with a promo code on the web page. This speaker is essentially the top half of the RTi10's (tweeter and midrange, minus the two woofers). I have the 10's as well as RTiA3, which is the newer version of this speaker. Anyone interested in moving up from Monitors might want to consider picking up the sixes.

Just sold my rti 12's and looking into getting a set of lsi’s. I came across a set of lsi's with center that are two years old and wondering if the warranty is transferable or pay extra 200.00 for brand new set from sound distributors. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Call Polk customer service and ask. They wont bite . I have had to call them a couple times and they were very nice in answering all my crazy questions..

Personally I bought my entire setup of LSi's used (as you know ). Depending on the source you might not need a warranty on them if they have been taken care of right...
