Yeah, the Mic included with the SMS-1 seems to be a high quality mic. I'm wondering the same and if possible I'll try to use it with REW. Actually, I just posted a question at the "New Master List of BASS" thread to see if someone is actually using this mic with REW. And more important, if it is possible to just plug it to a laptop by using a XLR to USB cable. However, no answer yet.

But, do you know if that is possible?

You need a full duplex sound device. Optimally one that provides phantom power to the mic.

I use the $100 TASCAM 144MKII. It will provide everything needed.

I have watch it twice already with RTi A9's and A7's set to full range. Underworld Awakening is something to listen to.

That movie had stupid hard bass. I was listening at about 60db on the receiver and had to turn it down because the whole house was vibrating (and I live in a duplex... LMAO).

Thanks for the information. Are you using the 144MKII with Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7 or Mac?

How about the Icicle XLR to USB?

Added to my Netflix's Queue. You have to watch (actually hear) Underworld Awakening......as other folks are mentioning the sound is great. I like it a lot around mark 47.00

I have used the Tascam on XP/Vista/Win7 no problems. Don't know about Mac OS X.

Looks like the link says 48v phantom power. So you would be fine. It's also $50.

I don't know what you have Sound Device wise. So if all you have is built-in laptop or desktop sound I would say get the TASCAM and the Parts Express microphone. They have a $40 mic that when you get it you go to the PE website and input the serial # of your mic and get it calibrated file.

Yep $40 for a calibrated mic.

Thanks for your response. In terms of sound device, all I have is my laptop running Windows XP SP3. So, if I pull the trigger on the TASCAM, can I use my SMS-1 mic with it?

I'm kind of a collector, I've got all the other Underworlds, just waiting for the price to come down on third party Amazon, Kate Billingsly is definitely hot, did you know she stars in Pearl Harbor? Same actress, two different acting styles.

Without the calibration file it isn't of accurate use if talking about REW.

I was afraid you will say that...LOL.

So, the mic at PE that you are talking about is the Dayton EMM-6?

True, but will it show me a graph that also shows the fronts + sub?

Thats what I am looking to see as well, how sound interacts in my room.

I keep getting closer and closer toward buying an Anthem MRX30......

I am hoping the SMS will hold me over till Anthem releases a AVR with more HDMI's than 4, otherwise I would be all over it.

I talked to a local hifi dealer who has both Anthem and Integra (XT).

I am going to setup a demo to hear ARC, no-arc and XT on the same set of speakers with the same music to hear which one I like better.

I like the price of a refurbed 709, but Anthems brand carries a bit more weight with me...

She was also smokin' hot in Van Helsing. Anyway, I saw Underworld Awakening
in the theater and we have all four movies on BD. We'll probably watch it (#4)
this week if I can get the family together.

I also collect Underworld films. Best Buy had a exclusive metal box of the 3D Underworld Awakening for a limited time.

Get it while you can, this is one of the best movies I have ever heard on the RTi A9's and A7's. You can see the 7 inch woofers putting in work. Defiantly moving some air.

Nice, thanks!

A9's and A7's? How do you have them arrayed?
The reason I ask, I recently had Monitor 70's as wides next to my A9's and sold my Monitor series speakers.

Now, my front stage seems a little weak without the wides and I planned on replacing them with another set of A9's, but bouncing back and forth between 9's, 7's and A5's.

Interesting, I have that exact same component stand, only my tv is set up with the bar that comes up the back.

I have the RTi A9's firing forward instead of towed in. This helps with some of the brightness of some material.

The RTi A7's or angled in to the siting area at 130 degrees and 230 degrees behind the sectional.

It a 5.1 setup, all speakers set to full range with exception of the center channel, with a Polk DSW500 sub. Pioneer Elite SC-35 running the center and rear RTi A7's. Adcom GFA-555 II running the RTi A9's with 200 watts.

Most people say my sub is the weakest link but all of these 7 inch woofers and the sub shakes the house. Ten 7 inch woofers and one 10 inch sub. This room is far from perfect with hardwood floors and french doors rattling but the system gets down.

This will have to do for now.

This room isn't really large as my other living room on the 1st floor. There is no room for wides or a 7.1, period. Maybe some heights with RTi A3's up top? I have thought about it but I also though about but a 7 channel 300 watt Adcom to bi-amp the RTi A9's and say screw the height and wides.

I love this tv stand but I didn't want to mount the tv because it is a heavier Samsung plasma which is 59" inches. The stand is built for a 52" and smaller. I'm really pushing it.

The only thing I don't like about it is it's WEIGHT lol. It's unbelievably heavy and I was thinking of getting rid of it and wall mounting everything instead.

Anyone here using Polks RC85i as presence speakers? If yes, how do they perform?
Will be posting pics of the reworked rack. I managed to keep the power, HDMI, and analog cables all separate from each other. Took me about 5 hours to get that done and then mounted my surrounds, ran cable runways for the surround wires and for the tv cables.

Due to the rewrite I was able to push the rack back to about 1 inch from the wall.

I think it looks fantastic myself lol.

I found that by feeding the A9's with more power smooths them out. When I went from 200w to 300w it made a pretty noticeable difference.

I hear you on the sub, weak indeed, but oh yeah, the woofs on those speakers do pack a mighty punch. you are definitely good.

Well, I really think its one of the nicer stands out there without being a whole wall unit.

Truly, it is heavy.

We in a nutshell, AFAIC, XT gets the mains right above the 80-100Hz mark. After around 400Hz the room quickly diminishes and you are now talking about on/off axis response which you don't EQ for. It's just the subwoofer portion that a good amount of people that have measured and found wanting.

This thread should be a good read for you. It was a new member looking at an Integra and Anthem. Sales rep actually brought receivers out to his house and ran the correction routine. He went with the $2K Integra vs the $5K Arcam.

Thanks for that. I found a nice deal for Csi3 new for $99 vs if compared in buying tne new CsiA6 for $399.
It is possible to buy two Csi3 and get them wired both together without damaging the speakers and receivers? In such way I will have a nice long center channel for my new 84" Projector (Optoma HD33). If there is any better projector than Hd33 for less than $2000 please let me know. I will use this center channel with my RtiA7s.
