We no longer watch movies in this room so I am hoping to find a home where they will be better utilized. I heard a set of LSI's years ago and thought they sounded superb. I will put the LSI9's through the paces and if the shift works out as I suspect I plan to also shift my HT from monitors to LSI15's and a set of (or a single) LSI9's as a center. I found the LSIC slightly less than impressive. I had been back and forth between RTI9's and LSI15's for sometime now. Research seems to suggest that the RTI line is a bit bright and the LSI's a smidge more laid back. I find the Monitors on the bright side so logic would seem to dictate the LSI line would suit my ears a bit better.

See my issue is the in wall polls I have are very bright with no mid bass to speak of really. Monitors seem like a decent step up.

Dont get the 15's, get a set of 9's for your fronts in the HT. The 15's are good but 9's with a very good sub will equal them all day long. I say this as an owner of the 15's lol

FYI, I have the RTiA9's and when powered light to mid, are bright, when powered heavy to heavier, are not bright.

The 9's and a sub are a nice combination...

Lol, I hear you. Not to worry, I believe you're intending on snagging the XPA-2, I highly reccommend it for your A9's.

You will love the combo.

So I pulled the trigger and got the monitor 60 series 2 from the egg for a good price with a promo code. It was within the budget I had. I hope it's a step up from the rc85i's I have right now.

It's 19" deep and my entertainment cabinet is18.75" deep. I would need to make some "major" modifications... Still in a holding pattern. Ghost rider out.

Talk to me goose.........the XPA-2 is "slightly" larger than your 3007, and, where there's a will, there's always a way!!

The XPA-2 doesn't necessarily have to go into your cabinet although aesthetically, it would be ideal. No, if worse came to worse, you could find an alternate spot for it, you'd just have to make sure you can get interconnects long enough to accommodate the run.

Congrats bro, you should really enjoy the 60's. The egg is having one of their spectacular weekends, I'll be taking advantage of it myself.

Polk eBay has a pair of black refurb LSi15 for 850 a pair. Seems like a sweet deal. Would you guys go for that or RTi A7?

I must say coming from an owner this is making me rethink my position. I had been on the 9's for awhile but the Polk direct deal on the 15s has been killing me lately. Doesnt seem to be many fans of pro amps hear but I now power my monitors two QSC. One channel @ 350 for the CS2 and the 70's get 500 x 2

Just checked the egg. I bought my monitors from the egg are rarely see the 9's on sale. Does this occur often?

I just did the same. I paired them with a CS1 center channel and I ordered a refurb Denon AVR-1712. This will be my first venture into good sound, I'm sure I'll be blown away. Next on the list is probably an Ikea Tobo, my TV stand now is sagging really bad and does not enough room for all my gear as it is, nevermind adding a huge center channel and a receiver. After that a good sub, but it's a couple of months away at least.

I apologize, I missed something in your initial post. I was refering to the LSi 9's, NOT the RTi A9's. I personally like the LSi series over the RTi series, but thats because I heard both.

Given the price of the LSi 9's on Polks ebay site, and that you have dedicated amplification, I would go LSi 9's all the way. The 9's dig deep and do a great job for HT purposes. The 15's work good, but the price difference between a set of 15's and 9's could go towards a good sub, or a REALLY good sub.

I LOVE my 15's, but I also got them from a local guy at a STEAL of a price or I would have gotten the 9's, or even 7's personally. Get the 9's a set of Skylan Stands (they custom make the top plate to match the speakers) and the LSiC plus a REALLY GOOD sub (or two). Surrounds either go without or use whatever you have now till you can get something better (if you even think you need to).

I am running LSi 15's, LSiC, LSi F/X's as my setup on a Carver 5 channel amp. I am getting a Carver TFM-35 to handle the LSi 15's and then I am done for a long time.

P.S. as I mentioned you could also get the LSi 7's as well for your fronts and surrounds as well. The 7's are considered by many to be the "best" of the LSi's as they focus on the high's and mids and do dig deep, but they let the sub handle that decently low to low stuff. They also need good amplification, but not AS much as the other LSi's so you dont need lots of power, just good power.

So another option is LSi 7's for your fronts, LSiC center, LSi 7 surrounds and a good sub.

No worries. I hopped on newegg and pulled the trigger on the A9's. I was a bit suspect with respect to running two lsi9's as a center. An RTIA6 is next on the list. I should have been more descriptive as I am upgrading two separate systems. Minus Monitors in both systems, plus RTIs in the HT (now) and plus LSI9's for the soon to be 2 channel room. I still plan on LSI9s for 2 channel with a HK3490 and dual Klips SUB12s but that is on the back burner now . Polk direct seems to have a number of LSI9's in stock. I had actually read a number of your posts on the LSI15s in the Polk forum and that pulled me toward that line. I actually prefer the form factor of the A9s more so than the LSI15. Time will tell.

Dont wait too long on the LSi 9's, once they are gone, they are gone (until a forum member sells a set smile.gif). I would pull on the LSi 9's as I dont know of anything in the works to replace the RTi line, though a refresh wouldnt surprise me given the Monitors and LSi's were just replaced in the past couple years...

Now I'm upset. Newegg has the RTi A9s for $499.99. That really irks me

Don't feel too bad, I just tried to order a pair and got denied. I could only order one due to insufficient stock. If Injun chief got my A9's, I'm going to have to go a scalping.

Not going to order just one, I'll wait until they come around again.

Okay, so you got me to check out the prices on ebay... and I see the Lsi9's are $500/pair, which is an affordable price, except these are bookshelf speakers with 5" woofers. Yes, I know I'm the one who always says size isn't everything... they appear to be very similar in form to the Monitor 40's. But I'm curious if they would be appropriate for HT and what would one use for a matching center channel?

BTW for the last poster, break-in typically takes a few weeks. It's not real obvious until after the break-in is ended... they start sounding better after a couple weeks, then sound a LOT better after a month or two.

Thanks. I figure I'll run them round the clock on low volume for a week. That'll give them roughly 168 hours of break in time before I really try them out.

The matching center is the LSiC. And they will work VERY WELL for HT. I heard a set at my buddies and kept asking him if the sub was on. They do need a decent set of stands though as they are hefty. Also the LSi7s are 427 and just as good as the 9s just don't dig as deep. But if you have a good sub it works fine.

I ordered the cherry. Here is a bit of comic relief. I checked my order and in a fit of excitement and absent minded foolishness failed to change the quantity to two. I am soon to be the proud owner of a single RTI A9. I will ring Newegg Wednesday to see if they are willing to extend the sale price for its twin.... rolleyes.gif
