My original comment about opening the speakers was only for when I thought the only problem was the missing clamp down.

So they offered me this, they do not have any cherry speakers in stock, but they have black and they want me to take a pair of black LSi9s and swap out the parts with the cherry.

If I do this does it void my polk warranty? Or is polk a company that tends to allow users to do their own fixes etc.. Does this sound like a bad situation I need to bail out of right away?

Another issue I have is , is it possible for speaker to have minor damage? I did not see anyone confirm if that was a blown speaker but I would imagine these 2 speakers came back from the same person. So now I am paranoid maybe the other pair of speakers might have some minor problems.

Hello to all. I hope that it is not a violation of Forum rules, as I have seen others do it on numerous occassions. I have a pair of Polk RTI 70, one CSI 40, a pair of FXI 30, and a pair of RTI 38 speakers for sale. Please PM me for more details and further information, if interested. Thank you.

As mentioned on the Polk forum, pick up the phone and call Polk. I could tell you its covered, but since I am not a Polk employee it wouldnt matter. You will find most of us here that have called Polk have been very happy with their responsiveness and it in all honesty doesnt matter what we tell you since they have the final say so.

I will tell you that since you bought from an authorized dealer even though it was an open box product you should be fine, but if it was me I would either email Polk or call them directly and ask them.

Somewhere in this thread is a guy who bought a cherry RTI center and then got black surrounds and wanted to switch, Polk mailed him the different cabinet for him to swap it out. I realize your dealing with a third party, but I would think your ok, just verify with Polk about the warranty.

+1 On what Enders is recommending you.

I had an issue with a third party as well (authorized reseller) and at the end it was Polk directly the one that fixed the issue for me.

So, I will strongly recommend to call them (Polk Audio) ASAP!

I'm with Ender, and cr136124. Don't swap parts. The vendor isn't the warranty holder. Polk is. Call Polk and they will set it straight.

I will point out that my setup is a little different because the room itself is not that wide - so my "wide" speakers needed to be mounted on the side walls (rather than on the front) about 2-3 feet closer to listening position than my front towers + center. I was/am a little worried that having the RTi6 speakers in this position will cause them to over-power my RTi8 fronts (considering they are "stronger" speakers than the RTi4), even with an Audyssey calibration...

The wide channel has a lot more content than some are aware of (namely me at one time). As I went through my last upgrade from the Monitor line to the RTiA line, I had my M70's in surround (killer by the way), and my M40's in wide next to my A9's.

After the shine of having towers in surround wore off, I noticed the sound wasn't quite "clear" enough down low even though I had the surrounds amped.

I swapped the 70's and 40's and presto, I practically doubled my front stage with sound presence. During musical scores, the wides are filled along with the mains with musical sound.

Once I sold my Monitor line, my 5.1 felt weak and my FXiA6's seemed to over power the front. Picked up a second pair of A9's for the front and bingo, a solid 7.2 system.

I have the space for wides, 15.5 across the front and 26 deep. Your available space might limit you to having towers across the front from what you've said, so maybe your bookies mounted on the wall may very well be the way to go. It never hurts to experiment. Have fun.

You cannot, however, run 4 ohm speakers in bridged mode. The speakers must be 8 ohms nominal (RTiA9).
I have been thinking about that as well.

Ok. XPA-2 arrived without issues. So, after unpacked it to ensure there was no issue with the unit (no problems to report), the next and obvious step was to re-arrange things on my AV Console to make room for the new amp (man, what a workout moving the XPA amps). XPA-5 moved to the center of the console, XPA-2's one to the right and the other to the left. Yamaha receiver, still on the middle of the console, but pushed up a bit. Same for my Panamax power conditioner. Of course, I ran out of space and therefore now the CSiA6 is on top of the console (just as I planned from the beginning............don't tell my wife).

Next, I had to modify my wires to have enough room to properly connect the wires using the bridge binding posts. Here is a pic of the modified wires:

And here a pic of the connection at the back of the amp:

So far so good, here is how everything looks together in my AV Consoler:

And the results? A total bummer...............my old XPA-2 is not working on bridged mode.......mad.gif

Not sure what is going on. Everything is properly connected, exactly as the other one (that worked like a charm). But, I only have sound coming from the new XPA-2. The other one is dead.

I already tried the basic troubleshooting procedures: use a different speaker, switched/replace speaker wires, switch to a different channel on my receiver, plug the amp to a different power outlet, etc., and after all that still nothing.

Funny thing is that if I use it as a regular two channel amp it works as it should. So, I need to get in touch with Emotiva and hopefully have it fixed ASAP.

So, right now I have both running on 2 channel mode. Of course, one is driving the right channel and the other one the left channel. Best I can do right now....wink.gif

Hello all - I am in the market for a Home theater system. I was initially interestrd in satellites or bookshelf but a few well meaning forum members steered me towards Pioneer FS52. I had a chance to see these in action in best buy. My reaction was that even though these are solid speakers, they were way too big and heavy for the quality of sound produced. I had to crank up the sound more than what i had go in an equivalent Polk bookshelf located right next to it. I am currently in an apartment. I might relocate to my townhome next year and i would like to have a cleaner less cluttered environment which tower speakers cannot offer. To extend this further, i might choose to go the in wall speaker route. So given all tbese uncertainties i thought of going for a simpler and smaller speaker set with good quality and narrowed down upon Polk RM 6750 which is currently on sale at $179. This is so that based on how my needs evolve in the future i could even move these out to a bedroom. How are these speakers for an apartment living room quality listening. I like to use them to watch movies and listen to music. Also, any rcommendations on the kind of receiver i could buy for them? I see the Pioneer 522 and 822ks and Yamaha 373BL for sale at $250. I know the speakers are not the most recent but i dont care as long as the quality is good for my needs.

I know you said you tried everything, but there is a switch in the middle of the am "On Off" for bridged mode. If it worked in stereo but not bridged that is the first place I would check. I had mine on bridged when I first put it on the rack (accidentally)...

If the amp works in stereo, then it has to work in bridged. You're just going across the output of two amps. The switch has to be it... Flip it back and forth and make sure it's "ON". Hope you missed it for your sake brother.

Okay, now Im jealous of your set up, and yes, I'm telling your wife about the center channel biggrin.gif

I am so interested in the bridge mode option, how much power are you getting the speaker? Can it really be that easy?? I hope Climber is totally right about the switch.

Yes, that is the first thing that I did. I mean flip the switch to the bridge mode and...................nothing. Then I did it multiple times (back and forth) hoping that it was just a bad contact, but still nothing.confused.gif

That is the part that I don't understand, I mean it works on the 2 channel mode, so in theory I was expecting to work at once on bridged mode. Oh well, I'll have to wait to hear from the fine folks at Emotiva about this.

I was listening at Pandora and then Sirius when my wife came downstairs to the basement and she noticed that the center channel was not any longer in the original position (inside the AV Console), she didn't say anything.........yet. I'm wondering if she will notice the extra blue led light this night while watching a movie..............wink.gif

I didn't measure the power coming out from the left channel (speaker that was driving by the XPA-2 on bridge mode), but I can tell there was a huge difference. I did run for a couple of minutes the left channel (XPA-2 bridged) and the right channel (XPA-2 at 2 channel mode), man that was just pathetic. The left channel sounded so much better that it wasn't even funny.

I'm just wondering how our beloved A9's might sound driven by a pair of XPA-1's.................eek.gif

When I swapped them, the difference was awesome. Now I have a second pair of A9's as wides. Congrats on your upgraded system.

Thanks! Yeah, there will be plenty of time to fool around with various setups. The living room in our new place is 18x24 "wide" where currently i have about 12x20 "deep"... a different configuration altogether, and a lot more space to fill. My first blush is that the wide material is purely matrixed, while the surround channels are native, so to speak. Still, since I do listen to a lot of music, wides may be the way to go.

Yet to be discovered is whether or not the 125wpc Denon AVR will be enough to power the 7.1 main stage with my decades old Crown stereo amp for the rears, or will I have to spring for maybe an XPA5 to drive the front soundstage. Consensus in the Denon forum is that the AVR should handle it fine. Still, I have my eyes open for an Emo sale or maybe a used Rotel on ebay.

Incidentally, on the A9's versus the A7's, I can really tell a difference in timbre with female voices. I really liked the A7's (heck, I liked the M70's!) but the step up was worth it. Same difference with the Monitor line. I remember the M60's were a bit thin on male voices, and the M70's sounded much more robust on male voices but shallow on female voices. Some say the A9's are weak on male voices, but I can really tell a difference, more clarity on female voices. Currently listening to Celtic Woman btw.

Hey guys I currently have Premier Acoustic PA-8c Center and PA-8f fronts. I was thinking about upgrading to the CSi a6 and Rti a7's. I was wondering if anyone have ever heard the PA's and are the polks going to be worth the upgrade. Thanks!

I just got a PSW505 and I am worried that my kids will ruin the speaker. Is there a firm cover I can get to replace the dust cover?

If they are old enough to talk, you walk them over to the speaker and tan their hide just for being near it. LOL It worked for me. Every time my son gets near the speakers I say, "Do you want smacked"? and he walks away with that "heck no" look.... LMAO

I've been interested in knowing how these compare to the previous Monitor series. They seem to be identical, only with a difference in tweeter placement.

It's a sad day in my cave......all of my stuff is now boxed up, 7 speakers, 2 amps, receiver, bluray and plasma. Yes, I could have one heck of a yard sale but, I'm relocating. I have a nice little batch pad I'm moving into next week. On the plus side, my living room is the same size as my cave only spun sideways, it'll double as my office. I'll have pics up when I've got the new arrangement in place.

Happy Veterans day to all.

Oh yeah, I've got the coolest wife in the world, my two step daughters on the other hand, well, they are turning 14 and 16 next month and are real live deviates. We're undergoing some changes and until my opposition gets a better understanding of what "blended" living is and how to treat people with respect, I get the chill pad. My view of Puget Sound is incredible. It's only temporary though, and a much needed break from the out of control teenage spoiled girl syndrome. My wife and I are pulling out all the stops to get these girls the guidance and direction they need to be successful people in life so we can get ourselves back together as a whole.

My wife is the coolest too, she noticed that I wanted the Klipsch Reference RW-12d, which is on sale on newegg.com for $300 after I bought two Polk Audio Monitor 70. So, she order it for me as an XMas gift biggrin.gif

Sorry to hear that Geoff!

But, hey you have to do what you have to do!

Cool thing is you guys are taking actions to correct the issue, instead of been just passive about it, do nothing and expect a different outcome. Don't you love teenagers! rolleyes.gif

Hopefully, the move will go smooth and soon you all guys will back on track.

Cheers!

Great news on my end. After several months of shopping around, I found that Emo launched their holiday sale over the weekend. Coincidentally, I just found out last Friday that we now have a renter for our place in Florida, so I won't have to continue paying for TWO places at once. We probably won't be making a lot of money out of this, but at least it will not be a financial drain until we're ready to retire. So long story short, I just ordered an XPA-5 and am looking forward to hearing what it will do for my RtiA9's. Oh happy day!

Congrats on the XPA-5!

You will be very pleased with the performance of the A9's driven by XPA-5. What else are you going to hook to this amp?

Currently running A9 fronts, Rti8 surrounds and Rti6 rears with a Csi6 center. I've been upgrading from the older Rti's to the RtiA's as I can afford them, with an eye on eventually having two homes both equipped with Rti's.
