Calling all Polkies:Official Polk thread - Page 521

i got a mastercard gift card for christmas from work and was going to buy some monitors from newegg, but since newegg can't take two payment types at once. I had to buy a newegg gift card with the mastercard gift card and the apply that newegg gift card to my order and pay the rest, BUT newegg has got to be the SLOWEST gift card system EVER. I placed order for gift card last night and they still have not charged the mastercard gift card....and still have not bought my speakers

this is why I love amazon....but they don't carry the monitors, they are on there but not fulfilled by amazon so they could price match.

edit: finally got them to charge the card, but it takes up to two days to receive a gift card by email after the order is completed even knowing I choose the delivery date for yesterday, unreal how slow of a process this is.

annnnddd my monitors are sold out.... :-(

Nice little system you have there. M60's are decent HT speakers, and the 505 is said to be good for music.
It's also good that you went with the CS10 rather than the CS1, though a CS2 might have been a bit better.

Anyone want to bet how long before "upgradeitis" sets in?

He is already using google to search for a CS2........LOL!

Hey Joel, welcome aboard!

I haven't heard a ton of great stuff regarding Polk subs, I have heard more negative feed back than positive unless you get into their higher end subs.

As for the surrounds....FXiA6's, LOVE 'em!! Very powerful speaker, put out lots of sound, the Di/Bi-pole speaker is THEE way to go for surround over bookies IMO! Great musically and for H.T.

Well now that everything is up and running I want to calibrate the speakers. I'm going to run the audyssey but want to know what everything should be set to after the calibration. So if someone can give me some info or a link I will appreciate it. My room size is 12x17.

After calibrating set your speakers to small and the crossover to 80Hz. That will get you going in the right direction.

I compared klipsch side by side with polk yesterday and klipsch was real bad on mids on all the lower end models. The polk had better highs and mids. In fact the only thing better on the the klipsch was deeper bass, even if muddy a bit. These were all lower series speakers, tsi vs k series.

Trying to tweak an existing polk setup.
I have RTi6's up front, RTi4's in rear, polk in wall as surround, and a CSi 30. a new console from Standout Designs coming on Monday, and thought a new center channel would be a good addition. cSi5 on sale at Frys for $199, thoughts?

According to my wife it was all part of her master plan. After the nursery was done and the baby was here, she was planning on helping me redecorate my office after the baby. However I told her that I would allow it only if I had total control over whatever went in and how it looked .

I am picturing my nice 2 channel setup finally done........

That and some nice Ikea storage for some LP's and my Halo stuff. Gotta get my Halo stuff back out and show it off..

Rob mentioned it was wise to have selected the cs10 over the cs1 with my Monitor60 series ii and 30's as surrounds. This CS1 was suggested to me by a polk tech prior to me purchasing them, however I now realize the cs10 is not a timber match to the monitor II series but is to the Tsi series.. It appears that the CS10 is a little better speaker but my concern is the timber matching. The system sounds great as it is and I am not opposed in getting the CS1 if it would result in a better audio match as it relates to timber. The CS1 is no longer listed on the Polk website however they are still avail for purchase on the net. What do you guys suggest - thoughts?

The CS10 is the wiser choice. That's why it sounds good. The timbre match is fine with the CS10. But like Rob said the CS2 would be even better.

As I understand it the primary diferance between the tsi and monitor series is the crossover, so the monitors may have a brighter/faster top end. One thing I know for sure is that if I could start over I would take the advice of getting the biggest baddest center I could, even at the expense of other speakers. I do listen to music often, but if is a HT setup, the center is the thing to splurge on. You could more than likely get whatever center you want to try and return it if you change your mind. You already have a good one for direct comparison.

Hmmmmm. That's two votes against the sub. Looks like the DSW660 isn't much more money, and goes down to like 20Hz. Maybe that's a better move. My current sub blows so I like the idea of landing an upgrade with my surrounds.

I still don't seem to get the problem. Some people just want an unrealistic amount of bass. I have the psw505 and very rarely push it. I have the volume usually at only 1/3 of full. I will sometimes turn it up depending on what I am listening to, but it seems very accurate and never muddy. It is quite musical while still pushing me off the cliff in the LOTR avalanche scene. Even with crappy speakers surrounding it for the first month I had it it seemed to blend them quite well. I suggest putting your sub in a corner, or trying several room locations before spending a fortune on one.

Looks like your best bet is a used pair of the monitor II series - here's a set with a sub and receiver for $400:

That would be me. Gotta have my bass. I sold my PSW505 & RW-12D and will be pulling the trigger on another sub next month. That's not to put down the 505 or Klipsch. They are the best you can get at their sale price.

I was in negotiations for this sub til I found out ED went out of business. It's badazz but if it broke I'm afraid I'd be screwed trying to get parts.

It's a definate sign the woman is in total control in that house. I'll be damned if I'd let anyone use a speaker as a plant stand. It's just not right.

Might be a good sign that the sub hasnt beendriven...
