True but if i can afford it I'd rather have some one else do it. I used to have a lot of wood working equipment but sold it all when I moved to Arizona for a year after my wife died.

Well, it depends. If you have really capable speakers and the sound is just great, but your sub is not able to keep up with the rest of your gear. Well, then you know that is time to have a better sub.

I was exactly as you using two subwoofers from one of those HT in a box and I was really happy with them. But, when I upgraded my fronts and center speakers driven by external amplifiers. Then I realized something was missing and that is how my quest for better subs started.

However, if you are totally satisfied with your PSW505 then congrats! It is indeed a nice subwoofer. I had one at home for a couple of weeks, but I returned due to the size of my room.

There is a guy at the ED thread that is helping people to repair their subs. Eventually he will run out of parts, but at the moment there is still some hope.

Perfect timing then, it is necessary for you to build a sub..........

I just moved cross country a year ago, still havn't got my woodworking setup fixed up..... it's surprising how much time a job takes up! but I fully plan to build speakers and subs in the next couple years.It can't be that hard, I used to build musical instruments, and am electronics trained.

ya, the really capable gear is a work in progress. I expect to afford a high end speaker set next year, about the time I have my tools set up to build an IB. I am hoping the 505 will keep up with the monitor 60s I just bought......I had to have something to hold me over, but I am building an RTiA system.

... or my twin Klipsch sub12's. That's where my wife loves to live.


We pass thru Atlanta every year, typically stay around Cartersville/Adairsville overnight to make it a 2 day trip from Cinci to Tampa bay. Not sure we could actually hook up but would be happy to at least meet briefly if you are convenient to 75.

That Monitor 60 + PSW505 combo should do the work without issue until you can jump to the RTiA series. Then you can take your time to look for a really decent subwoofer. Look for deals at Newegg specially over the weekends, not too long ago they were selling the RTi A9's for $399 for "brand new" speakers with free shipping. That was an amazing deal........ask Roblee about it......

Other option is to look at Polk Audio Store at eBay. From time to time they have good deals there too. But, if you go for the top of the line A9's, you might want to consider an external amplifier to take care of these babies!

Please keep us posted on your progress and keep an eye here too. Usually all folks here are posting/sharing information on good deals happening on Polk speakers. So, you never know and chances are you might be able to score a good set in less time than you expected.

That would be really cool. I'm like an hour north of Atlanta, near Lake Lanier. But, my office is at Duluth. So, best chances to meet will be at downtown Atlanta, so you and your wife are not forced to deviate much. I'll be a lot of work to put my Ultras in my car, but I'm willing to do that, so you guys can meet them.......................kidding!

About the ED, man you didn't know how close I was on pulling the trigger on one of those subs. Luckily I read that they (ED) were having a long lead time on the subs and you know how it is, we want our gear like for "yesterday", so I looked somewhere else. Close call man, close call!

ya, there's always the issue of wattage..... I will be surprised if my HK AVR2600 will handle the monitors, much less an a9. I was thinking the a7 would be enough for my smallish room. room is 15x13, with a corner HT installation, and the seating area is against the opposite corner walls making surround speaker placement a challenge. I'm thinking the bipole/dipole set will work best.

I live in Knoxville, not far from you at all. I frequently go the Chattanooga for work also.

Oh the might A7's. If you can buy them, you are going to be so pleased. I had them for a couple of months. really impressive and nice looking speakers. Cool thing about them is when they are properly amplified, they can provide really nice bass to your room. Yeah, nothing beats a 13", 15" or 18" sub. But, they perform pretty well. That will give you some time to save some cash and jump to a really nice subwoofer. With the size of your room you don't need to go all crazy with the sub in terms of size or output. But, don't go cheap either, Polk Audio RTi A7's with a nice subwoofer is an amazing combination. I can really tell:



I have to settle on my surround and back surround speakers, but if you are able to buy the FXi A6 speakers for your A7's, man you will be golden.

finally got my gift card after battling with newegg for 2 days over the slow service to receive it by email.

The monitor 40s and 70s are out of stock on newegg but the cs2 is in stock on sale for $100, however, I notice that the 60s are discontinued.

So I have an issue.

Buy the cs2 now( i get it for free with my gift card) and hope they get more m70s and m40s in and don't discontinue. or wait and just screw the current monitors and get "the new monitors" like 25c, 45b, 75t?

I am just scared to buy a cs2 now, and m40 and m70s either get discontinued or wife wouldn't let me buy them when they are in stock and then they get discontinued anyways then I'm stuck with a mismatching center speaker.

Doubt you'll get the CS2 at a lower price. It will still timbre match with the 75t. I'd get the CS2 and wait on the M70's. You can always get the 75t if the M70's don't come back at sale price. Leave the grill on the CS2 and you won't notice the difference in models.

The RTI A 9's are tempting at $399. My current setup has the Monitor 70's fronts and 50's , rear and CS2 Center paired with Klipsch RWD 12 sub and Onkyo TX NR 809 receiver.

Would this make a significant difference or should I stay with the 70's?

Oh yeah, the RTi A9's are a significant step up. If you have the bucks go for it. Sell your 70's to reduce some of the cost. Well worth it.

The RTi A9's were on sale for $400.00 on www.neweeg.com, but they are sold out now.

That's good to know. Most places won't price match if they are out of stock.

IIRC I do have you to thank for posting the heads up on that 399 sale. I had watched the A9's dip to 499 again and again, but 399 was just too good to pass up.


Thanks anyway, but in all honesty it probably won't actually happen. You're definitely on the other side of Atlanta from where we pass thru... and we're usually just praying that we can get out the other side without getting caught in one of Atlanta's legendary traffic quagmires.

I wish I lived closer to Fry's Electronics. I bought a pair of Monitors 7's for $321 shipped, but I would of spent more for the RTi12.

Best buy pricematchs online stores till the 24th...
They dont have any monitors or rtia's here though.
