Fry's currently has this:

7497765 Polk Audio 2.1 Speaker Bundle: PSW111 Powered Subwoofer and 2 RTi12 Floorstanding Speakers

For $749 total.

Is that a good 2.1 set? Good price?

Rob,

I have the RTiA9, CSiA6, F/XiA6 and a pair of 65-RT In-ceiling for surr. back.
I plan to drive them with a TX-NR818 (135W/ch, 2 channels driven), in a room that is a little less than 2000 cu ft.

Do you think I need an external amp as well?

Thanks,
Liviu

Sure is but unless you have a very small listening area I would not open the sub box. Sell it as new and get a better sub. Once you open the box you won't get as good a price for it. That sale gives you an even better price on the RTi's.

Refurb RTi12's are $750 for a pair on Polk ebay. So..........

Ah ic.

I'm still waiting for the M70's and M50's though, but the M70's just got OOS today, so i dont know when newegg will have them back and on sale :-) A little discouraged in the waiting game :-)

Right now i've already got the CS2 and the PSW505 so i guess i shouldnt mess with browsing any RTi's or anything at all... One lesson learned though, that i shouldnt have bought the center and the sub first. But they're more in my budget and i got them for good prices. I'm sure i'll be happy with them once the M70's come in place. I'm not that "audiophile" guy like many of us in here.

I hear ya. It's all about budget. When I was young I felt really luck to have a Pioneer SX-727 and Advent speakers. No sub. They had a lot higher end Pioneers at the time but I was totally happy with what I had. The M70's are really a great speaker. My son has my 70's now with my old Cerwin Vega sub and he's thrilled.

everything is out of stock now except m30 series ii and the new monitors....

there has to be a sale imminent on the new monitors with no stock of series ii.

I've been riding this waiting to go on sale between series ii being out of stock and new monitor still being too high train for about 2 weeks now. either they get all the stock back in on series ii with sale prices or put the new monitors on a bigger sale. like come on! you don't want my money newegg? especially after I had to fight over stupid gift card situation.

Thanks for the encouragement. I'm sure I'd buy the M70's when they're back. I was hoping for the next sale this coming weekend or next week since they seem to rotate sale to the RTi's this week already, but then they show OOS now.

67jason was kind enough to do a model comparison. In a nutshell your getting the same SQ. Just a different cabinet.

Since they are discontinued they are eventually going to run out of stock permanently. Hopefully for you now is not the time.

Cool. Just read that. So basically i'll be in the look out for a pair of 75T's or even 65T's for fronts and a pair of 55T's for surrounds, is that right? I was thinking either the M70's or the M60's are fine with me because i read somewhere that since i have the sub the M60 or M70 would be closely similar?

Amazon and newegg usually have the best price in my experience with newegg being first. I'm guessing you got a 40% off code in your e-mail from newegg.

My 40% off Newegg promo code is only a max of $580 off a pair of A9's That comes to $1,020 - ughh They only have one Cherry in stock though

You don't have to match a sub to speakers. You just get the best one your budget allows. If the 70's become available again at that $150 price I'd jump on them quick. Hopefully they will cause that's a screaming deal.

Ain't that the way it works. There's always the RTi12's for $750 a pair on Polk ebay. I think they have cherry in stock. Pretty darn good price.

All I can say is try it and see how it sounds. The A9's really like a lot of power. I am not familiar with your amp and I can't even guess what your room dimensions would be, but most likely when you are driving all channels then there probably isn't full power available for the the A9 fronts.

As I said, I used a 90wpc Denon to drive A7's and that seemed to work fine. But when I upgraded to A9's, even after breaking in, they still sounded "thin". Upgrading to the larger 125wpc AVR didn't seem to make much difference. But stepping up to 200wpc really made a tremendous difference.

One reason I was reluctant to move up from A7's to A9's in the first place was that I had read that they really do need 150wpc minimum, and that would require that I not only buy an external amp, but a new AVR with pre-outs as well. But as it turned out, patience paid off, and eventually, piece by piece, the AVR, the A9's and the amp, each went on sale, and the whole thing cost about 40% less than it would have if I had tried to buy them all at once.

Perhaps you can find a used amp or borrow one just to see if your setup sounds better. Only you can be the judge. But as others here have stated, with those speakers, generally the more power you can deliver to them the better they sound.

I am kicking myself already for going cheap on my AVR. I have already had to buy a phono preamp, and am in that same place, needing to replace it if I go with a power amp. For just 100 or less I could have gotten one that was 'upgrade proof.' I won't make that mistake again, I have learned patience from it, and will save for what I really want from now on.

Upgrade-Itis: noun: The sickness that drives individuals to squander resources on increasingly complex items without regard for compatibility or performance. Commonly found in audiophiles among developed nations. No cure seems likely, but symptoms are controllable with increased experience.

I think we've probably all kicked ourselves in the ass at one time or another. I know I've had to learn the hard way more than once. I'm not going to admit to how many times.

Well how do you like that. The Emotive XPA-2 is back in stock today. I sure wish I was born rich instead of so damn good looking. Oh well, one step at a time.

I was looking around and saw the Monitor 65t and 75t speakers. How do these bad boys stack up against TSI, Rti lines? I'm just asking because I'm still within my return times and I just bought 2 Rti A5 speakers. I know they're pretty old, and I'm just wondering if the 65t or 75t models are upgrades. Thanks in advance.

I'd keep the A5 speakers. The monitor series is very similar to the TSI lines, but less expensive.

Dont do it, the RTi's are a MUCH better sounding speaker than those. The Monitor, R, S series are Polks into line, the RTi are their (Reference Theater Improved - Advanced) speaker IIRC. The RTi line is a GREAT HT speaker and I would take the A5's and even A3's all day over the Monitor series.....

Its basically the same internally with some slight external modifications, the Monitor is a series only offered through newegg, and the TSi line is whats sold in Big Box Retailers like Best Buy, Frys, etc.

20% code doesn't work on them all just the ones on the list. ie: works on 75t cherry but not black. and some of the others in the new monitor series are missing. also 20% isn't enough :-p especially compared to other sales.
