Frys has a pretty good deal on the CSI 3 center channel speaker this week...

What are the cons for using 3 of these for L/C/R as opposed to getting one and a pair of bookshelf speakers?

If I did get 3 of them, I would place the L/R horizontally if that makes a difference...

You know, I actually tried that myself. It just didn't sound right. Honest. Now I'm using Rti6's and a Csi3 in the family room. The result is I now have two Csi3's I'm not using. What is Fry's selling them for? I guess I'll beat it if anyone's interested.

They have them for $99 each (according to their ad, their regular price was $250. Since it appears that these are discontinued, I couldn't find them on Amazon to compare)...

FWIW I paid $100 each used on eBay. One was like new, another in good condition and the third was junk. Proved to me just how different people's view of "Very Good" condition is. It seems to depend a lot on the age of the seller. To a twenty something, if it's in one piece, it's in good condition.

Do you think the speaker's condition affected your results when you used the 3 speakers together?

I have the R300 as my fronts and I love them, But I will be replacing them with the tsi500's and move the R300s to the rears.

Thats what i did. Ordered yesterday and will use them as surrounds.

Just amazing they can sell those R300's at that price with free shipping. They must be trying to clear out the stock for a new model is all I can figure.

No, I don't think so. I put the best two at L&R and the worst one in the center. I moved them around but it didn't seem to make much difference. BTW I use a decent 8" Kilpsch sub on that system which is quite musical and seems to be well suited for TV viewing and ambient music, which is what we use the family room system for.

As it is now, I'm using the one in good condition and returned the like new one to its box and it's in storage, maybe for resale, and the junk one is in the garage, maybe for spare parts someday.

the idea is to get a clean sound image across the whole front, and to center the dialogue on the screen. In a perfect world this is achieved by stereo speakers at the left and right creating the "phantom center" of dialogue. This requires specific geometry in placement, and high end speakers with a lot of power. In the real world, we use a center speaker instead, the BEST way to do this is to have three identical speakers, all placed vertical , across the front sound stage. They started making 'center' speakers that lay flatter so people could get them under their screens. Now this has become the standard, and works in most rooms. If I could afford it, I would get three lsi15's and lay one down under my screen.

Quite a bargain considering refurbs cost about the same and you get no free sub. If I were on the hunt today I could pull the trigger on those easily.

If I didn't have the Monitor 70's, I would get the RTi12. Now, I am waiting for the CS2 to be back in stock....

My sub finally arrived. Now to wrestle with a 140 lb. box. Should keep me busy for a bit.

This is a very interesting dilemna. RTi12s and a sub for that price or am i going to be blown away by the LSi15s? I know people have been seeing my back and forth contemplating the A9s or LSi15s. I am still leaning towards the 15s unless I have a compelling reason not to. Can i just also reiterate, this forum is awesome! I dont have my HT setup yet but feel so much better knowing I have all of you as experts/users to help me out. Such a great community

I'm experiencing weired issue with my RTiA5 speakers. At -15dB...they sound really good, but when I go near reference level (around -3db and up)...they get very bright and start to sound bad. Does anyone know what's causing this and how to address it?

 Blown away? Depends on how spoiled you've been in the past. Can't say I'm blown away because of some of the past speakers I've owned but for the money I really don't think you can get better sound. I'm guessing you'd have to spend a good chunk more.

It may be the speakers are starting to clip at that volume. I'd stay away from that volume. Not sure what the cure is with your speaker/ receiver combo. I don't go into that territory cause it's too loud for me. Just call me a wuss.

Whoa. That sub is a beast. Let us know how it sounds after its warmed up.

No offense but I think another sub would look nicer on the left than a plant.

My receiver is Pioneer SC-1222K and I'm only running three speakers of it...2x A5 and 1x A4 center...Technically there should not be any issue with my receiver powering these three speakers. I'm thinking of adjusting equalizer to lower brightness but can't figure out which specific EQ frequencies to address. I have tried the trial & error approach but Pioneer plays a stupid noise test tone while adjusting the equalizer and it's really hard to get an idea of what's going on when adjust EQ.

Are you posting in favor of the LSi15s or RTi12s? PS - your sub looks awesome! So jealous!

I agree. Thinking about getting another sub for myself to have a more equal look.
