Are they new speakers? Maybe they just need to be broken in. Polks generally sound thin and shrill for the first few weeks.

If you've had them for a while then I'd suspect an AVR issue. Also you should check that the brass straps on the back are secure.

I've had them for almost two months now and used daily for 3-4 hours. At -15db - which I think is pretty loud and watch movies at, they sound perfect...so I don't think its an issue of breaking in the speakers. It's just that when one of my friends stop by and wants to demo the speakers at reference level, that's when they sound too bright. I haven't experienced any clipping etc...they just sound like the treble is set too high at that volume level.

Few days ago, I asked on this forum about countering the brightness of these speakers but didn't get any response. Are there any frequencies inparticular that affect speaker's perceived brightness the most?
Dunno 'bout that. Maybe somewhere around the crossover frequency? It could be that maybe you're just expecting too much out of them. The A5's are still fairly small speakers (two 6" drivers). Personally I've never gone above -10db.

So true but the plant is a hell of a lot cheaper. I'm not ready to go on another bean diet.

Just for music. I'll watch a movie tonight. For music it's really a killer sub. Pretty amazing.

Where did you find a LSiC? You sure got lucky . Congrats!

Gonna be awhile before I can look for a LSiC. An amp is my next goal and that sub put me back into saving mode.

I am looking at installing Polk RT series Vanishing speakers in my living room for a 5.1 setup. I am going with 265-RT from the Front Left/Right and the 255c-RT for the center in wall speaker. I am having trouble picking the right speakers for the rear channels. I'll pair it with the HSU STF-1 woofer.

My couch is right next to the rear wall and I don't have a side wall on one side. So I have decided to go for in-ceiling speakers. Polk sells the 80 F/X RT Surround speakers and the 70 RT 3-way speakers both meant for in-ceiling installation. Both are priced at nearly the same price.

Does anyone know what the differences are between the two and which one I should pick for a 5.1 setup? What does "Surround" mean. I search around the forum and did not see many posts on these speakers.

Also, its a 14 feet by 30 feet room. How much of a difference are the LSi series of speakers? I am not an audiophile so unless the difference is really noticeable I wouldn't want to spend the money. I am upgrading from my current HSU VT12 Ventriloquist system.

Thanks
Digvijay

So it sounds like RTiA5 + sub setup is better than an RTiA7 + sub setup to replace M60s fronts.

Because the RTIA5 isn't so demanding of the AMP and because the sub will compensate for the A5 bass weakness.
I just talked myself out of the going with the RTIA5's and am most likely going with RTiA7's. Will be curious to hear how you like the set up AND what sub you end up using with them. I'm not purchasing them for a while so I've got some time to think it over. Good luck and please report back.

I don't know that it will sound better but you are right. The sub will take over anything under 80 Hz (if that's what you choose) and take some load off the receiver. It's a win/ win either way.

I just want to reply to the Amp thing. I just ordered the Emotiva 150wpcnl, & the Dig pre. They are still giving some( Consideration).pm!
I had thought that the speakers would come first & many including yourself helped me& I'm getting the refubed RTi12's
I know your on subs here sorry to deviate from the thread. When someone treats me right it's cause to blabb a bit.

Crazy. Right after I read your response, in come's a coupon from the egg. So i made the upgrade.
A7's not being sold on the egg was also a big consideration.

I'll worry about A7s and Emotiva's when I switch to 4k in a couple years.

ps. saw a 4k LG tv at a box store. Man it's got insane contrast. Almost too many lines on those demo movies it was showing.

Looks like you got a great plan. Too bad it takes us so long to get there. 4K, yikes. Some pricey stuff.

congrats! your gonna be stylin in no time! I'm hoping to make a trip to emotiva when my tax return gets here. I'm betting they will have some kind of deal for showing up, at least a shipping discount if not a scratch and dent type thing. I'm hoping to get a deal on the xpa 3 or 5.

Thank you both for all your help! Enders had to go and try and talk me into the LSiFXs and now I'm curious about those but can't find them. I might just have to accept that and get the 7s. Finding a center was enough work haha

In a few weeks I'll get to go through what you've been going through for a CC. eek.gif Don't wanna think about it right now.

Hello. New here so thanks for lots of great info! Been alot of years since I've shopped for good audio equipment...(1974ish)...so the learning curve's a bit sharp!

I hear much better than I see and I'm not a gamer, so quality audio for TV/Movies/Music is most important. I have a H/K AVR1700 5.1 receiver and a Polk PSW10" sub already. My dilemma is the rest of the speakers. I found a great price on Polk CS20 center speakers and wonder if if they would work for the fronts and surrounds? What would I lose in sound quality? I assume the receiver delivers specific frequencies to the various output channels so would the answer boil down to the specs of the speaker?

Also, I've read that good bookshelf speakers reproduce better bass than satellite speakers? Not sure why that would be...

Thanks!

Gosh, I am in such a dilemma here. I cannot for the life of me decide if I want the A9's or A7's. HELP!!!!

I want the A9's and right now I can get a pair for less than $1k. My only problem is I have to stop somehwere. If I get the A9's I will definately be spending "at least" another $600 for a 300w ++ amp to push them. If I get the A7's, my 818 will push them somewhat ok, but even then I can just get a smaller amp to push these guys.

I guess what I am asking is this. Is the A9 that much of a benfit from the A7s. I know the 9's are better, but after factoring in the cost difference between the speakers and amps, is it worth it. Will I still be satisfied if I go with the A7's or in your honest opinion, should I just get the 9's and call it a day.

I'm not sure what you're asking about the center speaker. You need to know if it will match your current speakers or are you on the hunt for speakers to match the CS20? I'm old too and may get confused easier than you. tongue.gif Satellites just don't have a large enough driver to produce much bass compared to bookshelves.
