Thanks...i have actually been content with those speakers for the past 6 years and thought they sounded good especially for what I paid for them...

I can't wait to hear how the new 'polkies' will sound...

Once they are here, I will see if want to use the 45B's or the R300 for the fronts, especially since alot of people seem to use the R300 as rears...If use the 45's I will need to lay them horizontally (to fit in my entertainment center or buy speaker stands) so I am not sure how that will affect the sound...

Placing the 45B vertically on stands will probably be your best bet. Also if your entertainment center is enclosed behind where you want to put them may not work well since the speakers have a rear port. Of course if you use the R300 up front it's no problem. You'll get to try the combinations and decide what you like best. Always fun doing that.

Should be a decent upgrade over my Onkyo HTIB speakers smile.gif

there's nothing quite like your first system... Until your next one that is smile.gif It's always awesome when you can upgrade everything at once. Huge changes happen. I am pricing parts for a new computer build right now. I want to have all that system ready when I can move my M60's to the computer system. That day will be a huge change for my system, because it will mean I finally got all the supporting hardware to run lsi15's smile.gif

I saw that HK in the BB flyer last weekend. Did you happen to read any of the reviews before you jumped on it?

I have the 2600, and will be upgrading to the 3600 soon. I love the receiver, HK has excellent warmth and power. The 1700 you purchased has a switching power supply for amplification rather than the standard AB type. It is much lighter, and uses less electricity, The only reason I want to upgrade mine to the 3600 is to get pre outs. You can get the 3600 for 399 at the harman ebay site. which is a steal of a deal for all the audio benefits of that machine. dolby volume, full faroudja hd upscaling to hdmi, 100 watts x 7 measured all channels driven, pre outs, quad bass mngmnt, L7 decoding, on screen GUI, HDMI passthrough etc. etc... great receiver that runs my polks wonderfully.

The 1700 has internet gizmos, and is NOT measured all channels driven. I do not need or want any networking on my receiver so the 1700 would be a big step down for me. I hope you enjoy it though! HK rulezzz

I would suggest these threads for that receiver:

I really should work on patience and saving money, but I can't help myself. I just spent 600 bucks on computer parts for a major rebuild of my 2 desktops. I recently set up my mobile green screen photography set at a nature center fund raiser and sold pictures there. I had issues with my computer keeping up with photoshop. I built it in 2005, and upgraded bits at a time for the last several years, but it is time for a major rebuild. new motherboard/cpu/ram. It will now however allow me to use my HK 2600 receiver from a spdif output and run real power to 7.1 speaker setup. It also has HDMI out for video smile.gif so I will get upscaling from internet sources. One step closer to getting both my upstairs and downstairs systems up and running. Now I can start saving for the next major upgrade to the main HT/music setup. LSi15's here I come, in about three months I hope.

Saw the deal posted on fatwallet which had alot of positive comments about it...I like the fact that I could easily return it if it didn't work out...I also used my AMEX to extend the warranty...

Here is the AVS thread for this receiver:

http://www.avsforum.com/t/1429194/the-new-harman-kardon-avr1700

I have a PS3, XBOX360, LG Blu Ray player and JVC 300 disk CD player connected to it and the HK connected to a 70" Aquos...only issue right now is setting the Deep Color option on the PS3 which causes a display issue...I just set this to 'No' and haven't' had an issue since. However, the HK is supposed to be able to support Deep Color. This works when the PS3 is connected directly to the TV and Deep Color is set to 'Yes'.

Even with my old Onkyo HTIB speakers (I was using the Onkyo center/rears and sub and a old pair of Yamaha floor speakers for the front), it sounds pretty good (at least to me)...

I immediately noticed a difference when I swapped out the center channel last week with that CSi 3, so I can't wait to see how much difference once I get everything from Newegg...

The receiver also runs much much cooler than the previous 3 Onkyo receivers I had...Definitely louder as well...

I hope my LSi15 days are not too far behind you. As most people know in this forum, that is the system I am trying to build around. Fingers crossed!

You might see if there is a firmware update for deep color support, I seem to remember something about that with the 2600. but I mostly play games from PC, or vintage consoles, so I don't know for sure.

Does this qualify as vintage? smile.gif

I'd say yes smile.gif I'm thinking ps2 and older qualifies. I have a 3DO, a ps2, a SNES, and an Atari 2600 smile.gifThe 3DO is super cool, you an chain together controllers. I a not sure what the limit is, but we have chained 16 controllers so far. FFor vintage games on PC I like nethack the best

You could mail that to me and I would gladly break it in for you. Just trying to do you a favor is all. It would only take about a year.

Only game I play is Company of Heroes occasionally when I got nothing else to do. Had fun with the old gaming systems years ago.

I think so, the one open is still the sub. I am a little up in the air on that one. Also, I sent a note yesterday and today to the guy on polk audio forums about purchasing his LSiC and haven't heard back yet. I am just hoping he hasn't had a chance to check his messages yet. If that falls through, the whole LSi package falls apart and I'm back to the drawing board smile.gif

That sure would suck. Hope you hear back from him.

That is awesome, I vintage game a lot as well. Question regarding your set up, do you have the system running through the AVR? If so do you apply any image enhancements or the like to it?

No...i was just messing around with it...it was just temporary to see if it still works...just some RCA's from the Nintendo to the side of the TV...

I have since disconnected it...I am tempted to fire up some Zelda though(I never did finished the 8th castle on that one)...

It was impressive playing Tetris on a 70" screen smile.gif

he he he...ummm no! lol

A couple of hours later...some badly needed cable management done....and she's on!

Haven't ran audyssey yet. I wanted to make sure that all the connections were okay and to see if the amp functioned properly....zero noise or hum...fantastic.biggrin.gif

For the last 10 minutes or so I have been listening to 2 channel music in pure direct mode...and it works and sounds just fine. I do notice there is little to no harshness at -5 and above on the dial! biggrin.gif

Beer, smoke and run audyssey...be back later.

And, right after the XPR-2, then the LSiM speakers will be in order.

Right?

I'd love to have a pair of LSiM speakers. The only problem is it's not that easy to rob a bank.

Congrats on the amp!
