I can't remember any one mounting them on the ceiling but what the heck, it's worth a shot. If it sounds good it sounds good. No harm in trying.

I won't be mounting mine on the ceiling. I can't reach that high.

Well I just thought it might be a good idea. Beats me... I have a vaulted ceiling and my speakers are going to my in ceiling so one of surrounds will be farther away than the other. I know this is not ideal, but its all I can do. I just need someone to come to Alabama and calibrate it for me. I got Onkyo 818 that has Audyssey 32XT so hopefully that will help out.

Yeah, that XT32 will be a big help. I love my receiver but I sure wish it had XT32.

Ok another question for the collective wisdom: the opportunity just came up for me to get a pair of RT600's for $80 plus about 1/4 tank of gas getting there and back.

Allegedly they are in "excellent" condition with no issues.

I wasn't looking for towers to upgrade from my RM6750 setup, but they are *small* towers. Two generations old though, or maybe three - the Polk website is less than clear on exactly what models fit when on the timeline. I saw a great review of the RT600i's online - not sure what the difference is between those and the RT600's. Again, Polk site not much help.

Does anyone have firsthand knowledge of these critters? Do I want these, or should I just drop the $150 or $160 on RTi4's later this month like I had planned? And then another however much on speaker stands.

I have Monitor 30s as surrounds.

Worth the money to replace with RTiA1s ?

How about FXiA4s ? Do these sound ok musically ? Or does the echo from wall bouncing get in the way ?

I'm looking for a cheap but decent set of speakers to pair with a vintage Kenwood Model 11GX receiver from the late 1970s (125 WPC). This simple 2.0 set up will be for my 9 year old, who's interested in music and technology (even vintage tech), but isn't an audiophile by any means yet. Any thoughts on whether these Polk Monitor 45B speakers from Newegg would do the trick? At $199 for the pair, the price is right, but I haven't been able to find any reviews, and I won't have a chance to listen to them myself. What say you?

Thanks!

As some of us here mentioned, its a newer version of the Monitor 40 so you can read reviews from that. Overall i think very good.

I just purchased the RTI A9's and the CS! A6 for the center channel from Amazon. Can't wait to hear these in my room. I have the Denon AVR 2313CI so power should not be a problem for these large speakers.

Congrats on your new gear! You made a good choice. But you should know that I thought my Denon 3312 would be enough to power the A9's when I upgraded from A7's to A9's, but they just didn't sound right, even after a few weeks of break-in. After adding an external amp, the A9's began to sound amazing. Now I hear things I never heard before, even when listening to material that I've been listening to for years.

So yes, the 2312 will drive the A9's, and they will sound okay. But that 105 wpc really won't make them shine. Eventually you will want to go with something 150-200 wpc minimum.

I also upgraded to the same coming from Monitors Series 2 and I have the Onkyo 809.

I am very happy with this upgrade but plan to get an external amp in the distant future when funds are available.

If you can muster up another $75, I will sell you my RtiA3's ($275). Practically brand new, bought them at the first of Dec. 12'. Was going to use these as my mains but after I got them, decided to upgrade to RTiA9's. Then I was going to use the A3's as my surrounds, but decided to upgrade to the FXiA6's. This crap never ends.

Anyways, I have a pair of RTiA3's for $275 if anyone needs them.

These have been playing in my stepdads poolhouse ever since I opened them up. Probably has a total of 75 hours on them. Gets about 5 to 10 hours a week played through them. Low volume, just something to use other than the TV speakers.

I would say yes to the RTiA upgrade. Haven't heard the FXiA4's but own the FXiA6's and I've fallen in love with this speaker, fantastic with music and the best surround speaker IMO.

Congrats! Very nicely done! You should be happy for a long time. As Rob Lee suggested, power will bring the best these speakers have to offer.

Congrats to you as well! I did the same as you, upgrading from series II, and I have the 807. As soon as you can rock the extra power, you will be in heaven.

I bought a Polk Audio RM6750 5.1 system from newegg over the holidays.
Love the 5 main speakers.

Hate the Sub. I read a ton of info online about the RM6750 5.1 system, and I did not find any one thing which mentions my terrible sub problem. Hard to believe.

After about two weeks of use I threw away the box, only to notice a week later that the Sub creates a loud hum after about ten minutes of use that is very annoying. I called newegg but they said without the box I can not return it, even though the speakers appear defective. They told me to call Polk.

I called Polk. And they mailed me a replacement rear electronic board thing for the sub, said that would fix the problem. I spent about an hour figuring out how to remove the old board and install the new board. It was eight screws on the back and four screws on the front. It took me so long because I thought I could reconnect the wires to the speaker from the back, which I found almost impossible. I broke one of the plastic arms holding the speaker cover in place when trying to remove it from the front of the sub.

Now I have a new electronic subwoofer board that is reconnected the the subwoofer speaker. A three legged speaker cover that fortunately re-connects... and guess what? Even with the new board the subwoofer still has the same loud hum after about ten minutes.

This hum is very annoying. It comes on even when the subwoofer cable is disconnected. I ordered a new high quality subwoofer cable from monocable in any case. Not sure it will do any good. Anyway I am very disappointed with my sub.

EDIT: Does newegg screen (or even remove) their product reviews? I am a verified owner and I wrote a review on newegg similar to this post to reflect my distaste for what happened with my purchase, and it didn't show up on their site so far...

How much power is ideal for the RTI A9's? It appears I can't add external amps to the Denon AVR 2313CI which I just purchased 3 months ago.

Sucks not to have pre-outs but you'll be able to push the A9's ok with the 2313. Just not to the levels the guys with an external amp can. Personally it wouldn't keep me from buying the speakers. At 8 ohm and 90db there are far harder speakers to drive.

Thanks for the offer. I heard good things about the RtiA3's, but I don't think I have room for them. They're going in a pretty small room and will probably be on a book shelf or dresser, next to a wall. From what I hear, that's not an ideal set-up for the RtiA3's.

I know this isn't what you want to hear since you just purchased your AVR, sell it while it's still new and upgrade it.

I've heard Rob Lee say it before, his A9's produced more detail and depth when he moved from the AVR to an external amp.

Mine sounded harsh when I had mine on a 200wpc amp, when I moved them to a 300wpc amp, they smoothed out.

Everyone hears something different but one thing I've noticed is; the Polks sound better and better with more power.

It's important to know, it's easy to starve a speaker but difficult to over feed one

Front Polk RTi150's
Center Polk A-7
Rears Polk Model 70's
Side Rears Technics 12" 3 ways with 10" Passive
2 12" Polk Sub PSW125's

I've picked up a second pair of RTi 150's, ($150 each) should I put them in the rear or make them fronts on another set up I have?

Hello Polkies! I stumbled across a great deal on Craigslist for a used pair of RTI A5s. The only downside is one of the towers is missing the speaker grille. Does anyone know if this is something I can buy directly from Polk or another source, or if there would be a DIY alternative if that is not possible.
