You can buy from Polk directly.

Im sure you can get the grill from Polk. Give them a call during business hours.

I currently have RTI8's and a CSI5 for the fronts. The 3" JBL satellites they replaced where moved to surround duties. Will I truly hear a big difference if I get some FXI A6's? The room is 20x20x8 if you include the kitchen area that is separated only by a 3 foot high penisula.

I got a curious reply to an email to Polk eBay:

Me:
Would I notice any difference between a CS10 and the CS1 I currently use?

Answer:
Not necessarily if you already have Monitor speakers you should get the CS1 if you have Tsi speakers you should go with the CS10. The differences are more cosmetics than acoustic.

So my question to you all: If the differences are cosmetic, why does it matter whether you use CS1 vs CS10?

Thats exactly what matters, the look! If you are into it :-)

So Polk meant I should go with the one that matches cosmetically?

I guess I'm just surprised. The 15c is almost exactly the same in dimensions, range, efficiancy, lower 3db etc as the CS1. But the CS10 is different in all those. How could it be the same?

Ok folks, scored a pair of RT600s in excellent condition that I will now need to match a center to. I've read that the RT line have more mellow highs than the RTi and RTiA lines which succeeded them. Unfortunately I am not in a position to audition any of these speakers right now.

Should I be concerned that a CSi5 or CSiA center will be too bright to properly timbre-match with the older towers? There seem to be some older generation CS245i, CS300, CS400i centers on eBay pretty consistently. Would one of those match the RT600's better? Or am I making more out of the difference than is really there?

am runing.. the RT600 with the CSIA4..and it does pretty well..the best match would be the CS400/I ...CSIA6..Polk audio has..a match up section.. on the website...of past and current models for the RT..line..but the CSIA4 works fine for me..the 6 I don't have room for..its big..

Thanks Pioneertop! I wasn't aware that there was a match-up feature on the website, and just now looking over the navigation headings and subheadings it is not at all obvious where to find it. Could you give me a hint? No time to pore over each page this weekend, unfortunately. Still moving into the new apt. And now we're facing this big Nor'easter in SE Pa tonight, might not be able to pick up my towers until Sunday or Monday. *sigh.

mknecht01 .....smile.gif so..here you go ...put this one on my tab....lol ..i copyed the text...the csia6 is the match..

What center speaker matches with my older Polk speakers?
While Polk speakers have evolved and improved over time, some basic signature Polk sound traits have remained constant. Clear, projected midrange, open, airy highs and wide sound staging are all hallmarks of the Polk sound, past and present. Therefore, Polk center channel speakers are the best match for older Polk main speakers.

The CSiA6 makes a great match for top of the line Polk speakers of the past such as the legendary SDA-SRS. It is a large full range center channel speaker that works superbly with larger Polk Monitors, S Series, and RTA models as well as all SDA loudspeakers. The CSiA4 matches well with mid sized mid sized Monitors (5jr., 5 & 7), S Series and the RTA 8. The CS1 is perfect for the smaller Monitor and S Series models.

Find your vintage Polk model on the chart below to see which center model is the right choice for you. If you can’t find your main speaker model on this page, or require help of any sort, contact Polk customer service.

Ah, ok, thanks! I thought you meant some sort of interactive page where you could put in your speaker model and it would return speakers that would be a good match. Bitten by my expectations. Thanks for the info!!

The cynic in me says, Of course, they're going to say that their most current, largest, most expensive center channel should be a good match for everybody! The rest of the info is helpful though.

You probably know this, but Polk speakers purchased from an unauthorized dealer do not have a factory warranty.

Just ordered a pair of FXi A6's. With my gift card the FXI's ended up costin me $107. Was thinking about getting the FXiA4's but figured since I had a big room, I would just go with the A6s.

I would like some advice from you guys if you dont mind.

I was going to use my in ceiling TC80i's as my surrounds and the FXI's as my rears on the back wall due to the way my living room is, but I think I may be better off using the FXi's as my surrounds and leaving the TC80s out for right now. Considering the lack of 7.1 in alot of movies, I am thinking I may benefit more from a 5.1 with the FXis mounted on the back wall with the sofa scooted back a little more than I originally planned.. If I end up wanting the 80's, I can always run the wires right now and just cut a hole in the ceiling and wah-lah, got my 7.1. You think this is a good idea? To just go with the 5.1 right now and have everything ready for 7.1, just in case I need it? I also think I would get better surround effects with my FXi's as my main surrounds, as to the tc80s as my main surrounds and FXis as rears.

What do yo guys think??

I'm thinking you will be amazed by the FXi A6s when you hear them. You get a lot more surround than you do rears anyway. Maybe going back and forth will help you decide. My FXi A6s fill my room with incredible sound in both movies and music (when I go all channel stereo).

+1

The FXiA6's put out phenomenal sound. Side surround is THE way to go, using them as rears would be denying their potential IMO

I wont be able to mount these as traditiional "side surrounds". My room opens up on one side into the kitchen and dining so I do not have a wall there. They will have to be mounted on the back wall unfortunately. The only difference in my 2 scenarious is the way I hook them up into the reciever. I hope thats not confusing. Is this still ok? Would I benefit from something else? Its either in ceilings or back wall mounts because my wife doesnt want speakers out in the floor. (part of the agreement) Thanks so much for your help guys
