Calling all Polkies:Official Polk thread - Page 574

Hey folks, not a Polk question, but we've gone pretty far afield on the subwoofer topic in the last month or two, so here it is:

First off, absolutely love the RT600's I scored on Craigslist about 3 weeks ago. Replaced my front two RM6750 satellites with them, and now greatly enjoying the superior imaging and soundstage. And volume. And everything else about them. Except how inadequate the 6752 center channel now sounds, so when the tax return comes I'll be getting a CSi5 or A6 to replace that as well.

Looking ahead to replacing the sub this summer sometime. There's been lots of sub recommendations here, but bottom line is I'm in a smallish room (abt 14x14) with neighbors upstairs and on one side, and am likely to be in similar living spaces for at least the next 4-5 years. I think the RW-12D or similarly powerful sub is too much speaker for my space. Looking for something quality that is not going to make the neighbors plot my slow and painful death. Anyone have any input on the RW-10D? Or the current 10" model Newegg has on sale, the Synergy Sub10? Or any other options out there that will improve significantly on the HTiB sub but not blow up my living room. Or... do I just buy the RW-12D and keep the lid on until I get someplace where I can open it up?

I'd get the RW-12d. Especially at the price it's going for now. I think this may be the last day of the sale if it hasn't already expired. Or you could get the PSW505 for $190 if you're worried about the neighbors.

I just ordered a HT set with the rti a9 fronts, center and surrounds are rti also and part of a set, i have a great sub already...I have a marantz 7007 and am wondering if it'll be enough power to biamp the fronts, or if i need to get an emotiva 300wpc for the front rti a9's?? any feedback from folks who've had these or more knowledgable would be appreciated...i'm replacing a set of b&w 684's with there center and surrounds, just haven't wow'ed me.

Your 7007 appears to be comparable to the Denon 33xx series with 125 watts into 8 ohms, two channels driven. I thought that would be enough for A9's, however there was a notable improvement in clarity after adding a dedicated external amp. Several others here have had similar experiences with the A9's. They really do need something more than 150 watts to perform well, and will take just about anything you throw at them. Be sure to break in you A9's for several weeks before passing judgement on them. If you are not pleased with the sound after a month or two you should add an amp in the 200-300 wpc category.

I have a similar setup - Polk RTi A9 Fronts, CSi A6 Center and FXi A6 rears along with the Onkyo 809.

Last week I picked up the Emotiva XPA-3 but did not notice much of a difference so I returned it. I'm sure the 300wpc will help and would love to hear feedback.

Bad i'm getting that exact system, with a 15" power sound sub...really hoping the 7007 bi amped is enough juice for the a9's

Congrats on your new set of speakers!! Now few questions for you: how big is your room and what are your listening habits (just movies, just music, 50/50)? How big is your room? These are important questions to establish if indeed you have a benefit by adding an amp to your setup. You have a very capable receiver and if your room is small and you don't listen to your material at high volume (close to reference level), then chances are you might not need an amp at all.

If you have a chance please share more information and others might chime in to provide further input.

Cool thing about it is; that you tried at your room and now you have first hand experience on how your system sounds with and without a 300WPC amp.

Sweet, the fact that you are adding a very capable sub, might help you to avoid the need to provide further power to your A9's. So, what sub are you getting: XS15 or XV15?

I have the sv15 and it's huge but really delivers great lowend bass, very satisfied with it...the room im in atm is small, its only 11x16 with 8' ceiling...ill be here for 6-10 months. when I move ill be looking for a larger room for HT. I use the system 80% for blu ray movies..don't listen to music as much as I used to. at least at home.

Nice!

Yeah, I'm hearing really positive things about the PSA subs. Another friend grabbed a XV15 (he replaced a SVS PB12-NSD) and he is completely satisfied with the performance on the new sub.

As soon you have you A9's and A6 running in your room, please make sure to listen some music (high bit tracks if possible) and report back. I bet, you will be changing really soon your listening habits.....I predict 50/50. Your sealed sub will help to produce tight bass while playing music at 2 channels stereo, and of course, the A9's will take care of the mids and highs.

Looking forward to read on your initial impressions, as soon you have all your toys in place and your system is fully calibrated............fun times ahead!

< - - - - - - - Oh yeah...and this guy may just be a proud owner of a PSA XV15 as well! Love to hear that great feedback on this sub. Am I crazy or did the price jump $100 bucks to $799?

It's always been 799 unless you buy "B" stock. At least as far as I've seen.

Yeah, that was a deal really too hard to pass up for dual subs. Congrats! That will be sweet.

My M1.0t came in from Vintage Hi-Fi today. Got it hooked up to test things out on my Polk Monitor 60's for the night. If it doesnt have the problems pop up after a full night on them it goes downstairs to my Polk LSi 15's connected to Kimber Kable Hero interconnects and Kimber Kable 8VS internally bi-wired speaker cable.

We did the LED's in white (except for the top one), added an IEC plug and some new binding posts (need pics of them later)

Here is how it was packaged:

Here are some pics

Will post more later, hard to type rocking a baby lol

I darn near went with two RW-12d's. Sometimes I wish I had so I'd still have some money in my pockets. Awesome subs. I really liked the one I had.

Hello folks, I own TSi series (500s, 200s...) and I am looking to upgrade to RTi A9s... I have Pioneer Elite SC37 driving the speakers. I am seeing discontinued for RTi A9 @ Newegg. Is that because it is being EOLed? Any clues?

Not at all. Newegg does that all the time with some products. They will be back in stock soon at normal retail price, then they will lower it to around 500 ea. again... Besides, shipping from Newegg with those speakers is a nightmare. I'd wait till Amazon has them on sale and they have white glove truck delivery service... It rocks.

Bought my A9's from NewEgg and had no problems with UPS shipping. Those boxes are beasts though.

I ordered mine from acousticsounddesign.com They are authorized dealers and give a huge discount and free shipping.

That website lists the A9's at $749. That's 50% higher than the 499 NewEgg routinely sells them for, also with free shipping. So where's the "huge" discount?

All,

I have recently started back on my living room design. Work has had me strapped for a few months now. I have made quite a bit of purchases. However I'd like to get some opinions of what I purchased and how should I set them up. I've set the Receiver and HDcable box up in an antique China Cabinet. This room is a pretty large space at around 24ft x 26ft. Looking to get the best out of the below equipment. I do have room for improvement from what I purchased. In baby steps I would guess. Thanks in advance for your time. I'll try adding a couple of pictures when I get home.

First I got a 60" Vizio Smart LED T.V mounted above the mantle.
I've purchased a Xbox360 Slim to sit along my PS3.
Onkyo(TXNR515) 7.2 Receiver
Polk Audio(RM6750) 5.1 System
2-Polk Audio (New Monitor 75T) Floorstanding speakers
2-Yamaha Outdoor speakers (for Zone 2).

Thanks again for any suggestions.

Chad

Rob you have to call them, they can't list below retail as they are authorized dealers...but when you ask for their best price you might be happy..free shipping is part of the service

Very nice Jason! Are you keeping it? What's your thoughts on it by now?

Sorry you didn't hear much of a difference on the XPA-3. IMO the extra 100 ponies with the XPA-2 make quite a difference.

I think of it more as the Polkie retirement home with all the old geezers we have here.
