Well I tried buying a Klipsch RW-12d sub from newegg, but they sent me a DOA 50lb lemon, and I sent it back to them.

Now I am currently initially concerned about my front L/C/R speakers. Then maybe an upgraded sub next.

I do like the "polk sound" in my RM6750 speakers. Thank you for the suggestions.

I spend a lot of time reading in the sub forum and now that you mention it I remember you getting a dud. Too bad. It's a great sub. If it works of course. I had to return a 505 that died about a week after I had it. Pretty rare for a 505. I bought it off amazon so the return was really easy and had the money back in my account just a few days later. Hope you have better luck in the future.

Any chance you can go with floorstanding speakers instead of bookshelves?

Depends... What are you thinking about?

I am thinking about the Cherry Color.

Would I notice a big sound difference? Or is that a minor upgrade?

Good Lord no, that's not minor! You're going to love it. I just replaced my RM6750 front left and front right with two used RT600's and it's like night and day. The RTiA3 is two generations newer but basically the same speaker configuration (1" tweeter, single 6.5" woofer) in a smaller enclosure, and by all accounts I've read on this forum and elsewhere is a better speaker than my RT600's, so will be far superior to the 6750 satellites.

And that cherry finish is really attractive. Makes me mad that we went with black and brown/black for all the new furniture in our living room.

Polk was selling a brand new pair of cherry RTiA3's on their eBay site for $285 this week, but it looks like they are all out. A number of other authorized dealers like OneCall, Sound Distributors, and others sell new "open box" speakers - floor/shelf demo models or never-used customer returns - on eBay at a fairly significant discount. Open Box speakers from authorized dealers *usually* carry the full manufacturer's warranty - read the fine print.

Do yourself a favor and get the center channel upgrade along with the fronts, or as soon as possible afterwards, though. Since I replaced my fronts, it really highlights the poor quality of the 6750 center channel. Can't wait to upgrade mine. Unfortunately I think the speaker upgrade money just got committed elsewhere for this month. mad.gif

Looks very nice. Would love to have two of those... But I am not sure what the WAF would think.

Yep, major obstacle. Those A3's will do you well anyway.

Ha! More like, I just got the list of alleged repairs and charges from my former (expletive deleted) landlord. And immediately called my lawyer.

I had a landlord try and pull that crap on me once years ago. Hope it works out for you.

Polk Audio Speaker choices, which to use???

To sum up, I just purchased a co-workers entire surround setup for very cheap because he was moving to a sound bar. I basically want to know if I should incorporate any of these new speakers into my HT setup or if what I have is currently superior. All my current gear is Polk and the newly purchased gear is also Polk. I know most of these measurments are more objective and depend on personal preference, but if one of these new speakers is far superior sonically, I would rather swap that in. My current set up is:

Denon 3808ci
FL+FR = TSI300
RR+RL= OWM3
C= CS2
Sub= PW10

New gear:

Onkyo TX-SR806
FL+FR = RT55
RR+RL = No model number or sticker on them. They are Polk, a bit smaller than the RT55's, have printed above the tweater "Dynamic Balance", and have
a tweater and a mid along with two side by side air holes at the bottom. They look like they would be sold along with the RT55's as rears because they are identical finish, identical grill cover etc.. Just smaller.
C= CS245
Sub= JBL PowerBass PB10

He also threw in a BOSE VCS-10 center speaker he used to use because the polk was too tall and covered up the bottom of his TV pic. I also got all the cabling, hdmi cables, Harmony 550, speaker stands (I include all this just to accentuate the amazing purchase I stumbled upon).

So I can swap these new speakers in and do listen testing, callibrating, etc... But I have very litmited time as well as a new 7 month old princess, so if I can be informed that for example, the RT55's will blow away the current OWM3's I am using as rear left and right, I will just swap them in and re-calibrate the whole setup. I am not going to swap in the Onkyo in place of the Denon because I am fairly certain the Denon is a superior reciever. The Onkyo is going to go into the main living room as the hub of that area (unless I can unload it for a descent price via craigslist). If this thread should be in the Polk owners thread instead of here please let me know and I will move the discussion there. Thank you all for any input you may contribute and I hope everyone has a great day!

1 pair of RT600's now serving as mains, with 2 of my RM6750 satellites, the center channel and the subwoofer from the RM6750 kit filling out my 5.1 setup. The plan was to pick up a CSi5 or CSiA6 next for around $250 or $300, and then replace the subwoofer and eventually the surrounds with "real" speakers as well, when I can afford to.

Now I have a choice: Stick with the original plan, or for about another $75 I could get a pair of RT800i's and a CS400 center which come pretty close to timbre matching the 600's. 800i's become mains, 600's go to surround (mmmm, tower surrounds!), CS400 center, and two of the satellites become either front presence or rear surrounds for the time being.

I like the 600's a lot, but I only have the RM6750's to compare them to; I've never had the opportunity to listen to any of the newer models. Any thoughts from anyone?

Personally I'd stick with the 600's since you like them a lot. If you get the CSiA6 you'll have a CC that will match some even better main speakers down the road when you decide to upgrade again. You WILL decide to upgrade again. You're sick like the rest of us. tongue.gif

I can understand the dilemma. Make it better now or even better later.

Quite a deal. I didn't get that code in my e-mail so I guess I've been bad. I also guess my buying a knife set from them a few days ago didn't qualify me. By the way, your link doesn't work for me.

Hey everyone, I have a quick question. There are a pair of used RT400s that a guy is willing to get rid of. I don't know on how much to ask for them.

Is that how the Newegg business works? You all have been talking about promos that I haven't been seeing in the emails - so they send you coupons or promo codes after you buy stuff from them?

And then there's my Pennsylvania Dutch upbringing, which is always compulsively looking for maximum value. Open box A6 for $300 - vs. 2 new, probably better mains AND a center that matches, for only a little more than that. Hmmmm. Ultimately this will come down to how much I trust the guy selling them on Craigslist.

There should be a red X in the bottom left corner of your post. Right between edit and flag!

Nope, no X. I have the pencil icon for Edit and the Flag right next to it. Tried in three different browsers. Maybe I'm too new to get delete privileges or something...

I don't post very often anymore, but here's my adivce....

If you can get a pair of 800is + a CS 400 for $75.00...run don't walk. The mains are better than the 600s by far. The center is as least as good as the A6 without the brightness. The 600s will work fine as surrounds if you have the room. Old Polks aren't necessarily inferior Polks. You'll find some real gems that match up extremely well vs. current revs....maybe not in looks, but SQ is subjective and I prefer many early RT revs to recent RTis (even though I like them too)

Does anyone have the Polk 65T with the 25C center? I know the 65T has the 5 1/4" driver and the 25C has the 6 1/2" driver. Should I go with the 15C because it has the same driver as the 65T?
