Give them time to break in an play with toe in on them as well.

Interesting answer from Polk..have 2 sets of speakers, Rti70s and LS50's...just got a psW111 as well and upgraded to the Oppo BDP player coupled with an Onkyo 5.15. I am not into surround yet BUT was recommended the LS50 as the speaker of choice....both sounded good but am using the LS now and it is warm and very very good generally setting volume for music at 40 and up....on the Onkyo...Anybody has any comment on this setup ? Even though the RTI70 are the newer speaker...had em both from birth...25 years and 10 .

I owned the LS50s for about a minute, then gave them to my son for his b'day. Also, kept a pair of LS90s for about 6 months. The 50s are a great little (big sounding) floorstander. It's a toss up as to which small floorstander is the best Polk has made, IMO. The LS50 or the RTA8TL. The tweeter on the RTA is better than the silver dome, but the balance and warmth of the LS50 is quite good. The bass is surprising from both models especially if you give them some power. The RTi70 is a nice speaker as well, but not in the LS class.
You know your stuff and am glad you are familiar with my speaker models and I do love the LS50...yesterday switched from the RTI70, which sounded good with my new gear but definitely sounded not as full than the 50's now hooked up....think I will stay up....thanks,

I see your 8TL and raise you the 11TLs smile.gif. Got a set of those now and have heard the 8TLs too and the 11s are better IMHO. The 15s are too much bit the 11s are JUST right

The LS50 sounds great with the PSW111 on my new Oppo....warm and full...

I said small floorstanders...the 11s are about 10" taller, 4" wider and weigh 40 more lbs. tongue.gif Your right about the 15s...overengineered maybe. The 11s share the same componets sans crossovers as SDAs...they should sound good.

I am thinking of using 2 Polk Audio RM6752 center speakers as front speakers for my 7.1 system adding it to my Polk Audio RM6750 speakers. I noticed the center speaker is built the same as the front speakers on the RM6750 but with 2 small woofers instead of one.
will they sound good?

any thoughts??

Speakers don't have crossovers to eliminate sounds that other speakers will generate in a 5.1, 7.1, 9.2, etc. configuration. Crossovers are designed to eliminate the frequencies being forced onto drivers that cannot reproduce them. The subwoofer will have a crossover at a frequency above its range, say 170 Hz or so. The mid drivers will have a crossover that eliminates the low freqs and the high freqs, say 170 Hz and 11 KHz or so. The tweeters crossover will be set at the high limit.

When you talk about limiting sounds that the LF and RF speakers produce, you are generally talking about surround sound. The center speaker will produce specific sounds in a movie, as will the fronts, wides, highs, surrounds, and backs. Each channel has it's own track, if you will, on a surround sound track. You could, in reality, have the system set to mono and all speakers will have the exact same sounds being sent to the speakers.

Center channel speakers are generally smaller drivers than fronts, but not always. Some large center channel speakers have larger drivers than bookshelf speakers. Some people actually use floorstanding speakers for centers and surrounds... Look at the upper and lower 3dB limit for your speakers. That will give you an idea of the frequency range. Go from there.

65rt vs 65ls in walls..Has anyone heard both of these speakers? I do not have anywhere here to listen to them, and am trying to find out if there is a drastic sound difference. I am going to be using them as front left and right, plus center since the studs in my room would not allow for a center to be "centered". I'll be finishing the room with the same in ceiling series that I choose above. With that said...any opinions on what size to put in the ceiling?...it will be a 7.1 They both run in 3 different sizes. Thanks for help

Ring radiated tweeter in the LS vs the dome tweeter in the RT. For 200 bucks less, I would go with the RT line all day. Unless, of course, money is not a concern, then I'd go with the LS line. The LS line has a slightly higher and lower 3dB response.

Drastic, no. Subtle is the word I'd use for ring radiated tweeters when referring to differences. I've heard both and they both sound great. The ring radiated tweeters are generally in the higher end speakers, therefore, the mids, subs, and crossovers would be higher end too.

I sure did. My curiosity got the better of me again. Your welcome to come over any day and I almost always have some Rainier in the fridge. I haven't received a tracking number yet but they should be here by the middle of next week. They use FedEx as their carrier so who knows for sure. Hopefully FedEx won't bang them up too bad. Your always welcome to come over for an audition weather your planning on buying them or not. If they sound good enough to you it might push you farther into the rabbit hole.

Thank you! now I have been granted the ok by The Boss (AKA wife) to get rid of the book shelves and now a possibility of getting the T65 or the T75? I found the T65 for $169 ea Free shipping and the T75 for $219 free shipping ... any suggestions?

They were great while they lasted.

If you have a sub or are planning on getting one the 65T will do you well. Otherwise I would choose the 75T.

RT800i's now my mains, RT600's moved to side surround. I'm still using the RM6752 center channel because I'm going to have to get creative about where to put the CS400, it's massive. Was up until 2 on Tuesday night rewiring, putting banana clips on all the cables, and listening, so far with the Yamaha YPAO settings, except of course I reset all the speakers to small when it detected the four towers as large. Only 2-channel listening - mostly to DirecTV music channels, so far at very low volumes, but there is a major improvement in power and clarity from the 600's to the 800i's. I can hear details in the music clearly at -40 or -45 dB that I could not hear with the 600's until I cranked it up to -25 or -20. Although "50 Ways To Leave Your Lover" did sound a little peculiar until I realized the AVR was still set on "Hall in Vienna."

No real feel yet for improvements in the soundstage and imaging, I haven't really fiddled with toe-in angles yet, or had the opportunity to listen at normal volumes during daylight hours. But so far I'm really pleased.

I have to give some thought to where and how to put the CS400. Furniture space constraints are annoying. I probably need to build a shelf which will rest on the high window sill behind the TV with braces down to the top of the entertainment unit behind the TV. Plus: the speaker will already be angled down towards listening position a bit if I use the window sill like that. Minus: we'll need to figure out where else we can put the Xbox Kinect camera which is clipped to the top of the TV at present. I could reconfigure the component shelves and arrangements and put it in the unit, but it will be hard to angle up and I'm not sure what being surrounded closely will do to the sound, even if I cut out the back of the unit behind the speaker.

If this winds up insurmountable, I may sell the CS400 and get a smaller center. mad.gif We just bought the furniture, so there's no replacing that for a while.

Thanks to all that have helped me figure out what I was doing! Esp RobLee, Stanley, Ron Temple. And, really looking forward to hearing what Stanley has to say about the LSiM703's when they arrive. Onwards now to a better sub, sometime this summer...

This depends on listening levels I think (correct me if I'm wrong audiophiles). I have the Monitor 70s and I'll tell you, powering it off my AVR did not work well. I ended up blowing 2 sets of tweeters due to amplifier clipping when playing at high volumes. However, low volumes? Perfectly fine. I just added an amplifier and removed my sub (I need the RCA cables to hook it back up so I'm waiting on those), and I don't think they work well as fullband. Trust me, you'll be wanting more. I miss having my sub, even though I have my speakers set as highpass and there is still enough bass to rattle my door.

The Monitor 60s (or 65T) don't get as loud as the Monitor 70s. My friend has one and powering off the same AVR (we both got same one I picked out his system), My monitor 70s were EXTREMELY loud compared to his 60s. From my personal experience, if you like it loud get the monitor 70s, add an external amplifier if your first set of tweeters die. If you don't listen loud, get the 65T (such an annoying moniker). After hearing both though, I'm extremely glad I got the 70s, and when my new tweeters and RCA cables come in to hook up my amplifier I can tell you the difference between the full system with and without an amplifier.

I'll tell you now though, neither speaker is good enough without a sub though. You're missing out on a lot without one.

I'd like to stay with the Polk brand. Again....what about my current Klipsch sub I have??? I have a Denon 2112CI AVR to hook into. I believe the S8's were an entry level speaker, but it's served me well. Just looking for something a step up from those.

Dunno if anyone mentioned this but setting your bookshelf speakers on the floor isn't ideal for sound if I'm not mistaken. You want it to be at ear height. From what I've read, you probably want a stand for them at least so they're at a good listening height. At home, since my parents don't really watch/care about sound quality and movies, their bookshelf speakers are on the floor. I listened to a track out of the room, in the room, and laying on the floor, and laying on the floor is where I got the most detail.

@Stanley
Is the LsiM 703 really an upgrade over a LSim15? I dunno if you were upgrading or not just curious since I don't know much of anything about speaker design.

PSW505 for $179.99 "Open Box" - but includes the 5 year warranty. Not a bad deal for those looking for a decent sub without going broke.

In other news, there is a "guy" selling a pair of LSi15's at the classified section, they are only 3 months. Good lord....................................why???? LOL... go Stanley!!!! GLWS.

It should be an upgrade from all that I've read. Some guys who own them over at the Polk forums are praising them very highly. Of course I'll have to let my own ears be the judge for my own taste. If I didn't have a good sub I would not have bought them.

If I don't like them I'll just cut my wrists. Well, maybe not.

I could re- arrange my furniture and use them for surrounds but I'm too lazy to do all that moving and it seems like way overkill to me for surrounds. If I like the LSiM and sell the LSi's I'll buy the CC. Those damn things are expensive.

Really odd to me that Polk would release a flagship bookspeaker better than it's previous flagship floorstanding.

I'm just going off my Monitor 70 vs Monitor 70 series 2 vs Monitor 75T though knowledge I really dunno much of anything about speaker design and what makes a speaker 2000 vs 150.

Well, that's an easy fix; we can help you out moving things around...........you can pay us with beer and pizza...........yeah we are that cheap!

Geoff is already in the list, so count me in too!

Yeah, that freaking center channel is expensive! But hey (in most of the cases) there is always a high price attached to the really cool stuff.

Cheers!

The LSiM bookshelf is the top end of the LSiM floor standing speakers. It's the better mid and high end I'm going after since I have a good sub and don't need the woofers in the floor standers.
