I'm telling you, first the TSi's got in bed with the Monitors to produce the "Monitor T" series. Now the Monitor T series has gotten into bed with the RTiA's to produce the "TSx T" series.

Notice the curvature of the cabinet.

LOL...........I guess you got it right.........but let me tell you, what a nice looking baby they had.

More detailed pics are now available at Polk's site.

Curvature? Yes, that was the first thing that I noticed and I forgot to mention that on my previous post.

MSRP 499.95, so hopefully Newegg will put some special price on these babies soon. wink.gif

I am using two Velodyne DLS-3750's. Haven't had a chance to compare them. I'll let ya know when I do. The feet on one of the RTiA9's got screwed up, so I'm making some new feet for them. Will post some pics when done.

If I was going to upgrade. should I go with monitor series or tsi series. I will have a sub so I don't need great lows. Need good mids and highs. System is 7.1. Used for ht and video games. This would be my first decent upgrade. I don't need to go all out for my first good set of speakers.

What is your max budget for speakers? Would be nice if you could step into the RTi line. Polk ebay has the RTi8's for $400 for a pair. Should go well with a decent sub.

I agree. Buy the best that you can afford. At least for the fronts 3.1. I own a pair of Monitor 70's, which I got for $300 on sale, and a 25c on sale for $140. They sound good, but the RTi sound better.

I member when I bought my Monitor 70's II...$300 for a pair biggrin.gif I wish this one would go that low. I spoke with Polk Audio Tech, and he stated the new monitors are the same as the old ones with a new look and price tag eek.gif

I think that's about as low as it has gotten in the past that I'm aware of. Weather they ever go as low as the 70's did I dunno.

Yes, this sale is probably the lowest I've seen as well. It's a good price.

Hey People, I need some guidance / suggestions for surround back speakers. This is my current set up:

Fronts: Monitor 70's
Center: Monitor 25c
Surround: Jamo S426 towers (got them on sale at Fry's for $87 dollars the pair biggrin.gif)
AVR: Pioneer SC-1222-K

I was hoping newegg.com would have the Polk R300 towers on sale again, but it appears this will not be the case. So, now I'm looking for other recommendations. I was thinking of buying a pair of Boston Acoustics Soundware from A4L for a little over $70 dollars, but I am not sure if this is the right move or not. I was wanting to get towers since I want to get rid of the speaker stands due to my kids dropping them mad.gif

So, any other suggestions?

Note: I was at sears a few days ago, and they had a pair of Energy Towers (same as S426 towers) for $130 for the pair. They were use, and they had a little bit of scuff marks here and there, but other wise look good. I would of bought them if they would of sell them for $100, but the manager wouldn't go that low LOL.

They sound good. Better than the Pioneer BS21's I was using before. I think I might go back to Sears again, and see about may be buying those Energy towers only if they they still under warranty. I don't want to get them home, and find out they do not work lol. I'm still looking though. The Boston Acoustic Soundware as small, and I was thinking about screwing them on the stands biggrin.gif
post #17597 of 18617

I only use a single speaker for a surround back (Pioneer SP-FS52). Picked it up at BB when it was on sale for $99. Works fine for me. Would be nice if you could get a couple more Jamos at that price. That is if you like them. I'm guessing the pickings have been slim on craigslist in your area.

what kind if energy speakers from sears? what model? i just bought bookshelf speakers for my surrounds too.

At least with Sears it's easy to take them back if you don't like them.

The Energy EF-500 towers, which are the same as the Jamo's S426, which I do like for the price smile.gif.

I agree. I think I'll go back later today, and pick them up. I might buy a 1 yrs extended warranty just in case. Both the Jamo's and the Energy are rated 6 ohm's which my receiver supports biggrin.gif

New idea, which my wife isn't probably going to like very much. Either get the Energy EF-500 towers to complete the 7.1 system, or get a second RW-12D sub, which is on sale for $289.99?

Yeah, that sale ends tomorrow. Decision time. Dual subs sure are nice to have. Just tell the wife she must be having double vision. Women can only hit so hard and can only kill you once.

Well.. budget isn't really the issue... the issue is the time to save up for speakers.. Lol.. My wife will let me spend whatever I want as long as we pay our books and I save up.. so the bigger I make my budget the longer it will take to upgrade.

You can get a very nice used system for much less money than it is worth if you are patient and diligent in your search - Craigslist was good to me in the last 2 months and now I've got a front stage comparable to RTiA5 and CSiA6, and side surrounds comparable to RTiA3 (but towers, with somewhat better bass response) - just two or three generations older. But in very very good condition, and they sound spectacular.

So for about the same price as the pair of refurb RTi8's from Polk eBay Direct that Stanley pointed you at, or less than the price of a pair of new Monitor 75T's, I've got fronts, center, and side surrounds one generation older than that, in excellent condition, that are comparable to the sound and quality of the current RTiA line and the RTi's that came before them. I'll recoup another $80 or $90 of that cost when I sell my old satellite system... but I still need to put some $$ into a good sub.

Stanley's giving you great advice; I'm just offering another option. If you're careful, you can get quality used for 25%-40% of the cost of new, or even more-or-less-new from Polk eBay. Just takes some patience and luck. But if you have the patience to pore over Craiglist and eBay listings, or simply save up to buy new, you definitely want to look at RT/RTi/RTiA series speakers over Monitors and TSi.

If you really don't want to go with the RTi/RTiA's for whatever reason, don't forget to consider the brand new TSx line, which looks to have incorporated some of the RTiA design elements into the TSi line at prices just a bit more than current TSi pricing. Nobody's heard them yet though, to the best of my knowledge...

Well, I went back to Sears, and they had the Energy EF-500 still sitting on the display table. So, I talk to the manager for a few minutes, and I was able to reduced the price from $130 to $50 dollars for the pair.biggrin.gif So, needless to say, I have them at home. I'll hook them up later and re-run MCACC.

I almost bought a set of Energy Classic 5.0 set up. They had them on sale for $150, and the manager said, I sell them to you for the same price ($50 bucks)....I wanted to get them too, but I don't think the wife would of like that.

I agree, very nice looking indeed. But gotta say, I'm a bit perplexed in two areas; 1: the 500 uses 5.25" mids with it's 8" woofs, where the other two siblings are using 6.5" drivers Period. And 2: Polk is claiming these speakers are timbre matched to "other Polk loud speakers" so you can add them to existing systems.

So, if my Monitors are not timbre matched to my RTiA's and so forth and so forth, how can these bad boys just come into any camp and be right at home? What the heck man?????

Edit; okay, I went back and looked, the RTiA9's use 5.25 mids with 7" woofs. Never mind perplexed #1 but #2??????

Congrats on the  great buy. You really got quite a deal. Do you feel guilty for stealing those speakers?

To be honest...no I don't lol. They had a energy sound bar with a wireless sub for sale too. I was thinking of buying it for the bedroom, we couldn't get it to work at the store.

IYHO for hd and SACD playback would you use the rti70's or the LS50's..using now a Onkyo 5.1 and Oppo...no surround system, just the speakers and a Polk SW111.
Are they similar in internal design, I have both , I was using on an old receiver and upgraded but wanted to know opinions on which is more suited for HD CD's and SACD...any merits or lack of I should know? Thanks...Supposedly the LS50's are warmer....had them for 25 years and the RTi70, the larger in Cherry for about a dozen...seems more powerful?
