I think they make excellent surrounds, they sound great to me.
In my opinion, R30 surrounds would make for a better match with your R30 fronts.

I believe that using the same speakers all the way around is the best way to go in a multichannel setup. Can't get any better matching then that. Don't skimp too much on surrounds, there is more info in those channels than you might think.

i had placed 2 r30's in my cart at outpost lastnight. the sale ended yesterday, but when i checked my cart today i still had 2 r30's at $29/each. i placed the order. i got them for $78 shipped!

While I have Polk speakers; rti6, csi5 and quite happy with them, their subs on the otherhand, IMHO, are not the best bang for the buck from everything I've read and heard. Take a look at some others; HSU, SVS, etc. I personally have the SVS PB10-ISD and it's very good and rounds out my system quite well. Just my opinion, food for thought.

i have just started my investigation for a sub and have found several others of the same opinion. how is it that the psw10 does not even have an lfe input? i'm trying to keep it less than $250 ($300 at max). what do you guys think?

How about the Dayton Sub-120, this was one of my choices when searching but eventually stepped up to the SVS at an excellent price .

You might want to check Ubid, they have several choices....Many have recommended either the Cadence XSUB or the BIC H100 (not on there right now but keep checking).

R15's are on sale at Outpost again.

oh well, can use the r30 saving towards a sub

I ordered another pair today. Either going to be speakers for the bedroom system, or I'll use one for the rear surround.

Hello all. I guess I'm part of the Polk Club now. I just purchased a pair of RTi8's to replace my aging JBL speakers. I originally purchased the Monitor 50's and, while a fine speaker in its own right, I wanted something a little more substantial and refined. Hence, the RTi8's.

Now I could use some advice on selecting a new center channel. I have to dump my JBL EC35 in favor of something Polk. Should I go with the CS2 or CSi3? Before anyone says the CSi5, I can't afford it. Seriously, I can't! The CS2 is made to go with the Monitor line. Would it sound alright with my RTi8's? The CS2 does have bigger woofers (6-1/2") vs. the CSi3 (5-1/4"). Maybe I should just go with the CS1 since it's the same size as the CSi3? I don't know! Help, please.

I just purchased the RTi8's also and was told the CSi5 was a better match for them. I was able to get the CSi5 for just a little more than the CSi3. Now the issue (if there is one) is I got them from an unauthorized dealer. Let me know if you want to know where I got them from.

If your not willing to save up for the CSi5 the CSi3 is the next best alternative. Niether the CS1 or CS2 will match as well.

I sold the sub that came with the package because I had purchased a Dayton 10in sub a month earlier. Probably like a lot of people here, I troll Fatwallet and got in on this incredible deal. I would probably have purchased the R15s if I didnt buy this.

I am not an audiophile so don`t have a point of reference, but I am not sure if the vocals (dialogue) in movies from the CS1 are 1st rate. I have an old HKTS1 speaker package, and I don`t notice a big difference between the little HKTS1 satellite speaker that is used as a center, and the Polk CS1. Maybe I am expecting too much, as I said, I really don`t have a point of reference.

I really enjoy this site, it is very beneficial for the non audiophiles like myself. For example, I thought that because my speakers were all larger than 5 inches, they should be set to large. Now knowing better, they are set to small.

If you have a local Frys, its very likely your store has the Polk R50`s on sale. I live in Sacramento and they are on sale for $159.98 for a set of cherry R50s.

My $300 Yamaha reciever doesn't do them justice (HK 640 next) but I am still amazed. Polk makes some great speakers!

What did you have before and how do you like those speakers especiallly the center

Anyone have Rti4 or 6. And heard them with R15 or Monitor 30? I'm trying to find a comparison. I have R15 and want an upgrade without going to a new speaker name. I haven't heard the Rxi4 no whre locally and want to know if it will be a significant upgrade? =Alot more clarity and a little louder or do I need to make a bigger leap?

No sub yet and main speakers bi-amped from 56txi receiver. SACD and DVD-A sound amazing. I get such great bass from just the mains. but a Velodyne SPL1000R is the next purchase which will bring it all together. I am surprised that in seven pages that not one person has LSI speakers.

Main: R50
Side: R30
Rear: R15
Center: A piece of poo

What would fit better for a center here? Csi5 or CS2?

Room is 12x24

CSi25 is the matching center channel with the same tweeter as all of your other speakers, and the same midranges as your R15s. You can get them on eBay.

Yes, you can get them on E-bay, or at Outpost for $69. But that speaker doesn't seem to be at par with R50's or R30's according to polk. They SUGGEST the CS2, which is miles ahead of the CSi25. I'm just assuming they are trying to suggest the most expensive answer that will stay in the ballpark. So I thought maybe I could go downgrade from an CS2 to a CSi5. That's why I asked what I did.

Plus like like the part where I can turn it around and have it point up. :P

Haha.. the CSi25 is just discontinued, like the rest of the R-series is about to be.

The CSi5 is $100 more than the CS2.....

*shrug* mine sounds great and matches the other speakers. Just a suggestion.

I think Polk simply "has to" recommend a center channel that they currently produce. They can't say "the CSi25 is the match, but you can't buy those anymore".

The CSi25 *is* the match. It was produced as a matching center channel for the R15/R30/R50, which all use the same tweeter and midranges (save for the 5.25 - 6.5 inch size difference). It has the same styling, finish, and grill.

That said, the CS2 or CSi5 may well sound better. I have no idea.

I may be going crazy, but i'm not completely impressed with the sound of this setup. Maybe i've got the speaker placement wrong, i'm not sure. I'm hoping you guys can help me.

I ran the speaker location setup with the Microphone that came with the Yamaha receiver, and am using HDMI audio with the "THX Cinema w/ Prologic II decoding" on the Yamaha.

Room size is: 26' x 13'6"

I've got the fronts snug on each side of the TV, the center channel below the TV, the sub to the left of the tv in the corner of the room, and the surrounds are 6 inches behind my couch in BiPole mode.

I'm not sure what else to try, it just doesn't sound as crisp as I thought it would. I'm using good cables, and get no distortion in the sound.

Can someone help please?

THX post processing rolls of the highs and shouldnt be used unless the MOVIE has an overly bright sound to it (this is of course my opinion). You may also want to run the Auto setup and try the different EQ setups on the Yamaha. I feel adding extra processing where it's not needed just degardes the sound quality. If your listening to a redbook cd it will sound better on a properly setup system in 2 channel than it will in THX + Prologic IIX IMO. It aslo sounds like your speakers are no where near setup for optimal sound quality. Your rears should not be 6 inches from the back of the couch, there are alot of articles available that discuss proper speaker setup, I think that may help more than anything else.

now im looking for a sub i might just go with the dayton12 that everyone is talking about im on a budget. i actually just paid $250 for my five polk speakers so far

anybody have any luck with velodyne?

i'm really looking to add a velodyne vrp1000 (10") sub to my setup.
