I am trying to figure out what would be the best rear and rear surround speakers for my setup. A link to my home theater design is also below in my sig.

Here are my choices.

1.Fxi-a6 - Would be on wall but sticks out at least 8 5/8" into the theater space
2.265-RT - Would be in wall with a painted grill or in a fake column
3.80F/X-RT - Would be in wall with a painted grill or in a fake column
4.TC-80i - Would be in ceiling

From a sound quality perspective can you guys help me out. Maybe rank them or give me advice on how they would sound. The only ones I sort of have experience with is the TC-80i/ I am using 4 in ceiling now for my family room theater. I love the way it sounds but I want the Home theater to be the best.

Thanks,

Chip

Yeah, you can tell by CR's response as a new owner of the FX's, they are the speaker to own. In my opinion, they create a larger sound field then a direct radiating speaker.

So what do you Polkies think?

I concur with all the others, the A9's and you'll never be disappointed.

I think that's exactly the way I would do it providing I had the LSiM's, and maybe even an extra set of 707's just to be sure.

I prefer direct radiating monopole speakers as surrounds aka regular bookshelf type of speakers, but a ton of guys round here really like the fxi di/bi-pole speakers....they wouldnt steer you wrong., I

The TSX series is supposed to match both the TSi and Monitor series. And even though I have the Monitors and love them... The RTis is a no brainer.

x2 love my monitors, but the RTi A9's is no comparison.

I reorganized my sh!t. got rid of the "tower of power", I think it looks better this way. I got some lightdimms from amazon and tamed the emo "brightness" tongue.gif

LOL, probably because he doesnt really want to sell em smile.gif. VMPS is no longer around, founder died recently. I can tell you this much, his subs kick some major A$$ for the price. I plan to build a couple using his plans.

I still wish I could snag these puppies.... With those I could get rid of my 15's and go with wallmounted LSi 7's for my fronts, heights, surrounds, rear surrounds + a LSiC and then use a SMS-1 to EQ both the subs and 7's to work together for my fronts....

Thats a nice soundstage.

Interesting they said it would be in around 9/9 a week ago. Better that they over deliver rather than over promise.

Call Polk Audio CS and ask them for the FEDEX Tracking Number. They are NOT sending shipping info.

Damn. Apparently not. I'm in colorado. Just bought some rti4s for $20 more.

Hey fellas,

I still need to assemble my subs but I have a question. Where do you prefer to place two subs? On each side of room or front and back of room? I'll do the sub crawl to get best placement but was curious what you all thot. Thanks for all the opinions.

I wouldn't even venture a guess since room accoustics can vary so much. At least you'll get a good workout trying different placements.

Subwoofer placement is typically room dependent. I have read a great deal on the proper integration of dual subs. Opinions vary. Opposing corners worked best in my room.

The standard answer would be 1 in the front corner and 1 in the opposite back corner. Ex: Front left and right rear. Ideally you would have 4 subs. 1 in every corner or 1 mid wall on every wall.

Guys. Am in a fix. Now that they are shipping out the Pro660WI subs i need to decide if getting it for 325 is a good idea and this will be for a HT setup 70/30 (movies vs music)
If i cancel it are there are good ones around 400 range.. I cant afford to shell out 600+ on a sub right now. Will any of the major SUB's have a Thanksgiving sale or something
each year that would make one of the better ones come to my price range.. time is not the criteria for me.
And coming to the 660WI. it says wireless ready, so how does it perform wired vs wireless. I have a 7.1 setup so thinking may be i can have 660WI in the rear wireless
and use a 505 or something that i could get for 150 bucks. How does that work out when compared to one of the beasts like Outlaw/HSU. Let me know your suggestions polkies.
Cheers !

if you don't want to save up for a $600 for a better sub then the 660 is a good budget sub at that price

Unless you need the wireless capability cancel it. The Premier Acoustic PA-150 and the Bic PL200 are both in that price range and will kill that 660.

I disagree with that entirely. The PA-150 and BIC PL-200 are not subs I would ever own. The 660 is a pretty darn good sub and better IMHO than the 505 or any other Polk PSW sub.

However if your sub budget is 600 total, you can get a really nice sub for that price from somewhere like HSU or Outlaw Audio and those would probably trump the 660.

I am not a fan of BIC or Premier Acoustic at all. I would prefer the STF-1 or STF-2 over all the BIC or PA offerings.
You obviously dont know much about subs with a statement like you would rather have an stf2 over anything offered by Bic or PA.
The stf2 is a terd. I had one. Accurate but very little output. A good bedroom sub for music maybe.
The 150 and 200 are in the $350 price range and have 100 more watts RMS among other better attributes. The 150 is a 15" so if he is just looking for output for movies that would probably be my choice in this price range.
The 660 is better than the 505 I would hope but thats irrelevant really. A lot of subs are better than the 505.
Now if you wanna actually go into the $600 price range then that will be another discussion.

I think for the sale price the guy got a fair sub in the 660. There are better subs out there in similar price range. At MSRP, no way would I consider it. At MSRP the entire dsw series is overpriced for what you get. However, I would consider the 660 over any bic sub.....i don't like them....they sound like one note wonders to me...I've heard a few different bic models including the pl200 and f12.

I added a quantifier to my original statement for you.

Underlined the reason I would go with it from your quote. I want accurate rather than loud and boomy, been there, done that, dont need to repeat.

I am simply not a fan of BIC or PA. There are other better ID offerings within that price range IMHO. I also would choose accurate over a one note wonder.

You may be right. Can you name just 1? I assume we are talking about the $350 range since thats what we have been talking about.
I think most people would prefer accuracy over a one hit wonder. The problem is accuracy costs money. You will be very hard pressed to find something accurate with good Spl in that price range.
