I can't speak on this exact application but I can explain my rack. I custom built my av rack. I did it in close collaboration with a tech from COLLER GUYS. All av and computer rack cooling solutions are a "pull" system. Meaning fans at the top to exhaust the heat.
My build--I cut holes in the shelves and covered the holes on each side with window screen. This allows the air to move freely but will catch dog/cat fur and anything else in the air. The shelves also don't go flush to the doors. There is approx 2" on the front and back so hot air doesn't get "stuck". He felt that by building in this way a fan WOULDN'T be needed. But I've added 2 amps to the original component list. So now I have a thermometer I'll place in the rack to monitor temp. If it gets hot I'm going with COOLER GUYS 3 fan thermostat kit. It will be mounted on the top to extract heat.
COOLER GUYS tech was awesome! Who else would help you design a rack that wouldn't make it necessary you buy their product. He was very honest, genuine and a wealth of knowledge.
