I have been doing alot of reading, and am new to this board, Been on the Hometheather spot board. Like this one much much more. My planned set-up is.

RTI6(front)
CSI5(Center)
FXI5(Rear)
PSW1000(SUB)
Denon avr 2105 For now, will upgrade later.

Anyone have any comments on this, I am new to the higher end home theater stuff. Just getting my first FP also. Go big or go home right?

I'd recommend that your receiver upgrade be instead an external amp for your fronts that the 2105 plugs into, and that you look into rti8, rti10, or rti12 fronts instead of the rti6.

I have rti4 surrounds, and do like them alot, but I recently got rti12's for the fronts, and use a Denon 3805 with an external pro-amp (rated 400 watts per channel), and the sound from the rti12's blows away the rti4's. I would assume it would blow away the rti6's as well. I'm not talking volume, I'm talking clarity, crisp sound, front imaging, the whole thing...

After hearing properly powered rti12's, I would never get the rti6 for my fronts unless severely budget constrained. If that was the case, I'm sure they will sound "good" based on my rti4's, but not as good as the biggies.

I'd also look into HSU, SVS subs for around $400. And while you're at it, look into the Mirage S-12 sub sale at vanns. I got the S-12, and it is incredible with my polk system. For the price, consensus seesm to be that at the < $500 price point, HSU, SVS, or the Mirage are the best game in town, by a VERY big margin.

Thinking about amps, with the csi5 and the 2105- could the 2105 have any trouble powering it? Just a thought.

I have not yet bought them, so thanks for the tip ! The last time I checked outpost.com, they were listed at $140 or so. Anyway, I will wait for the price drop :-)

Been researching here and there and looking to maybe go with the following:

Front Polk Audio In Wall LC265i
Rear Polk Audio In Wall RC55i
Center Infinity In Wall ERS HV250
Sub Polk Audio In Wall CSW200

A/V: Pioneer VSX-74TXVi receiver.

Anyone ever use these speakers before? I've been reading allot about them but it's always good to hear from others. Any comments or thought are always welcomed. Thanks!

Hi,

Its very important to maintain a good timbre match between your front speakers to avoid situations where the pitch of sounds change as it is panned across the front soundstage.

It is important, but less so, to match the fronts to the surrounds because our hearing is less acute from the sides and rear.

To timbre match speakers usually requires sticking to the same manufacturer and model line of speakers. In this case you should stick to the LSi line. (The LC265i in an In-Wall version of the LSi line.) I would recommend using an other LC265i for your center channel and LC65i's for your surrounds.

There's one other complication. Your receiver is only rated for 8 and 6 ohm loads. The LC and LSi line are 4 ohm speakers.

Circus City sells the Monitor series, and dropped the RTi series b/c of cost - at least here in Ohio.

Also, rti models have real wood veneer instead of vinyl in monitor.

Thanks for the help LarryChanin. I didn't notice that. I ended up going with the following:

Front & Center speaker - Polk Audio TC265i
Rear speakers - Polk Audio RC55i
Subwoofer in wall - Polk Audio CSW200
Polk Audio Performance Enclosure for the L and R

And for the receiver: Pioneer VSX-1015. Just ordered the above last night and starting to layout the wall I'll be building to install the 65" and the above speakers. I hope to post pictures as I go to share with eveyone. Question for you. I notice in your drawings you have the components in the back of your HT. What remote setup did you end up going with? I'm really looking into getting the ProntoPro TSU7000. Any comment on that brand and type? OBTW, I really like your layout. Looks like it works really good for the space you have to deal with.
Thanks for the help!

I have a Buffalo Round Micro IR Sensor IR-350 mounted in the ceiling in the middle of the room. It is wired back to a Xantech Amplified 10 Emitter Connecting Block 791-44 that sits in the equipment rack. Each IR controlled device has a Stick-On Emitter wired back to the Emitter Connecting Block.

I'm embarrassed to admit that I have a Philips Pronto TSU2000 that is still sitting in its box and programmed for my previous home theater gear. I think the Pronto was an excellent universal remote, but it did require a bit of time and patience to program it. I'm afraid that's the only excuse I have for procrastinating and not reprogramming it for my current home theater. I haven't been in the market for a new universal, programmable remote for some years, and I'm not familiar with the TSU2000 and can't say how it compares with the competition. Nevertheless, I have no problem recommending the Pronto brand.

Thanks. I would have preferred to have the equipment in a separate equipment room, but my available space didn't permit that. So I was forced to place the rack on casters in the rear and use IR repeaters to control the equipment.

Good luck with your project. I'm sure you'll enjoy your Polks. I, and no doubt the other Polk enthusiasts, would be interested to hear how you make out.

I have a set of older S4's and a matching Center channel. I saw that Outpost has the CSi25 on sale and was wondering if it would timbre match with my S4's ok. I may be upgrading to the R50's as they go on sale sometimes for about $80 ea as well. I'm not looking to spend a ton, as I only have a 10x14 ish room.

I did look at the pold website which suggested teh CS1 as a match, but didn't see the CSi 25? I think it may be discontinued.

Any suggestions welcome.

Thanks

Larry thanks for the input. It was a big help with the IR info. Ordered those items yesterday. Now it's down to the ProntoPro TSU7000 and then finally the Panasonic 65". Along with some small itemized to connect it all together.

Thanks again for the help Larry. I'm looking forward to posting in a month or so regarding my HT build. Should be fun.

Thanks!

I have Aiwa bookshelf fronts and Aiwa satallite rears. I'd like some Polk Front and rears. For the front should I go with the R30's or R50's? Should I find some Polk bookshelf speakers?

Just picked up a pair of Polk RTi25 bookshelfs off of ebay for CHEAP! Got them for my computer. Right now Im just running them off of my Logitech z-560 amp/sub. Im looking to get a sub and receiver on a relative budget to complete the bedroom/computer system. So far I am incredibly impressed with them. They have brought amazing clarity to the upper-mids and highs. Well worth the $100 I picked them up for.

Here are the speakers I have:

(2) LSi25 (fronts)
(1) LSi Center
(2) LSiFX (sides)
(2) LSi9 (rears)
(2) PSW1000

I know they are some great speakers (hence I bought them), but I dont know which reciever to buy for them. I have thought about getting the Denon 3806 or 2807, or even the Pioneer Elite 74 Series. Can I get a consenus of what reciever under 2000 dollars would be the best buy? Thanks.

Oh and I want the reciever to have HDMI capabilities.

I for one own a pair of Rti 8s which im very thrilled with and just recently upgraded my center speaker to the almighty csi 5 which has turned out to live up to the hype. The weak link in my set up is my Boston acoustic subwoofer which really isnt that bad but I could do better. The sub is positioned right next to my throne (sweat spot) ,a position I found to sound the best(at this location it also doubles as a poor man's butt kicker ). Anyhoo , it will be nice to hear from other polkies out there....

First Time Polk Owner here.

I just recently purchased 4-LSi9's, 2-LSi7's, and an LSiC. These are for a second HT system I'm putting together. I heard so many great reviews on the LSi series, I purchased them before I even auditioned them. I was able to audition them last weekend at friends house, and I wasn't disappointed. They have exceeded my expectations. Now I'm in search of gear to drive them.

Now that is a set up I would love to hear..... the LSi line are very power hungry... 4 ohm and 86 db... they need power to sound their best.... find a good amp with 150 - 200 wpc that can handle a 4 ohm load.

Give them lots of clean power and they will sing for you.

I have a question I already did a search but what is Polk speakers SOUND ? In general ?Especially the RTI. What sound are they concidered?= Bright ,neutral, warm? I wonder because I would prefer to have neutral accurate speakers and if I upgrade should I stay with Polk or get something else? Staying is Polk is the cheapest. My upgrade wouldn't be alot but similar co$t as Polk speakers no $2k fronts. Just curious no upgrades soon but for future when I get the itch TIA

That's OK, but I would advise against your placement. You don't want the speakers in the corners.

My understanding is that the RTi line sounds a bit bright. Most of the time you are recommended to purchase a warm receiver so that you can balance the sound out. Now if you are a HT freak like me, bright is good!
Thanks for the reply. I wish I just could hear more speakers. Polk was the best sounding in my price rage at Local stores. If I could hear more maybe I could understand bright accurate and warm alittle better. I just know what sounds okay to me. H/K receiver is concidered what sound?? Thats what I run with my Polks
post #268 of 19111
I have a pair of RTi70s and I do find them a bit bright and too out front for my tastes for music, but they sound great in HT, where you want it a bit more in your face. Don't get me wrong...they sound good with music and I am happy with them, but speakers are my next upgrade..... but that will be a while... after I have paid off the new bathroom and roof and siding on the house........

>My understanding is that the RTi line sounds a bit bright.

I have rti12's, and rti4's for surrounds. I find them to be very natural sounding, and not bright at all. I use a Denon 3805, and an external Samson 1800 amp for the fronts.

I chose Polk because it was the LEAST bright of all I listened to (Klipsch, JBL, Infinity). So your best bet is to make sure you listen first and see what YOU think is bright or not. Personal taste plays into this in a huge way.
I want to purchase the LSi9 speakers and use them for my main/front listening area. I already know what they sound like, and personally, I think they are kick ass! Best sound I've ever heard from a bookshelf! I'm trying to achieve a 7.1 surround sound setup and want to intall 4 of the following; Either the LCi60 or LCi80 in-ceiling speakers to complete the surround sound setup. I called Polk Audio and they say this setup will work. Also, I will use the LSiC as the center channel speaker. Does anyone have this particular setup or offer any suggestions?
