Here's a question I've been curious about. Using just an AVR anywhere from 80 to 145 wpc, and the same environment and sub, at what point in the RTI/RTIa line would you actually "really" notice a sound improvement up from the A5/I8's? I'm so happy with my 8's that I find it hard to believe I can get any better (I know Ignorance is bliss) but I'm more curious than anything if there would be any noticeable difference without using bi-amping. Does anyone have any first hand experience?
Yes, fairly recently BTW. Don't bother with bi-amping, pretty much a waste of time. So long as you're not cranking the volume, your AVR should do fine. Mine is 135wpc with 2ch driven. I ran my A9's on just the AVR and they sounded just as great as having a billion watts going though them. One point of interest, the highs were tamed some with the addition of power, audible reference, cymbal hits were more deliberate with power behind it, without, the cymbals hits had extra "sss' on the end
