Hello,

Well, I haven't been on here for a while, and wow lots of stuff to read lol! I've been going to work early and staying later....the beginning of the month, and we almost have 100 call in sick! That's just in our department. eek.gif Talking about cable management, I need to do something with all my cables eek.gif

For really simple wire management that is cheap and will blend well I used this http://www.monoprice.com/Product?c_id=105&cp_id=10520&cs_id=1052005&p_id=7118&seq=1&format=2 .. I really like it .. did wish they had a 1.5 inch hose .. .but hey .. beggars can't be choosers.. biggrin.gif

They are water cooled Freshy biggrin.gif

Thanks for the link, I've been wanting to clean up the back for some time now.

Me thinks one of the cats was chasing gawd only knows what & hooked it with their claws eek.gif so now I'm wondering, will it affect playback (prob not?), can I replace it myself, do they sell just this part at Polk Audio or can I just dab some super glue on the punctures to seal them & scold the cat til I'm blue in the face LOL. Thx guys... mad.gif 2014-01-1408.45.43.jpg 88k .jpg file

I see you're up near NM, I'm from San Antonio originally. The climate is one I miss!

I'm with Fresh K on this one, if the kitty kitty gets bad too many times, it's Cat Chili time biggrin.gif

Ok, because we dont "really" have a topic... let me throw this out....

Whose converting their blu-rays to MKV files? And what are you using to stream those to your reciever?

I am using MakeMKV to rip my blu-rays down to my computer and want to play them in another room. I am looking to do this as cheap as possible. That means sub 100 bucks.

So far all I see is the WD TV Live as an option. Thats fine as long as it can play DTS/lossless audio, and the interface isnt ridiculously clunky. I am a HUGE fan of XBMC, but its just not possible right now as I am not super sure Raspberry Pi is viable to work.

Thoughts/suggestions appreciated.

So far, playing tunes & can't hear any issues but who's to say that over time it won't get worse etc. Damn shame, brand new speaker too!! When I had my M70s, had the grills on the surrounds & suspect cat did pick on the right surround a wee bit but didn't really tear it up, so will just ask Polk what I need to do. Just asking, if I do replace the driver, are the wires soutered (sp?) or are they perhaps plug-in? Just curious since I don't have a souter iron.

Here's the solution to your problem:

How is the Polk TL1 for dialog? I am looking to replace my cheap HTIB center speaker in my motorhome.

Also the current speaker is 3 ohms, will the Polk model work?

I've noticed after switching from polk monitor 45b's to the 75T towers and a larger center I need to crank up the receiver about 10 dB higher to get the same volume.. hmm. Looks like an excuse to peruse around Emotiva with my card rolleyes.gif

Do it before you have to spend it on something silly like food and clothing.

How's the difference in sound? Do you like it better or about the same?

might be cheaper just to get a really long HDMI cable if your pc is in the same room and directly connect. as for converting i use a combo of any-dvdHD and handbrake

The towers make a big difference in heard frequency response. I'm not sure how to articulate the difference, its a much 'larger' sound stage for both movies and music.

Well, the TL is an 8ohm speaker. are the rest of your speakers 3ohms? Probably not a good idea to have your receiver trying to accommodate a variety of power needs....best to get all matching series

YOU'RE RIGHT THERE!

Called Polk & spoke to the rep, he suggested using silicone gel/glue to cover the holes since over time & the arid climate I'm in, they might tear. He said the driver just plugs in so that's a +, on the other hand it's $60 + shipping eek.gif Food for thought, now I know lol.

Don't pull them out too far to disconnect them, you will risk pulling the wire off of the crossover side...ask me how I know lol

My first new toy has come in received from AC4L the Marantz Sr-5007. I had to run home to at least set it up where it's going to go so the boss doesn't notice a change in appearance. I know I know I will clean it up later just had to get it up there. I have banana plugs somewhere around here gotta find them. More items are coming....

I also do Blu-Rays via MakeMKV and DVDs as straight rip VIDEO_TS via DVDFab.

Right, WD-TV-SMP or HTPC (I use Win7-64 and XBMC). There are also small (non-Windows) $100 machines that people load branched versions of XBMC on. See the site.

I know, I am looking all over it.. I also have a thread here in a different section. I also started a thread or two on XBMC about options.

The options offered up are:

Roku 3 running Plex - about $100
Google TV running Plex - about $130 (Sony NSZ-GS7)
Gbox Midnight running XBMC
PIVOS XIOS DS.

Unfortunately I dont see the first two as working too well for me. The last two while they work, I keep reading about them being slow to respond and chocking on 1080p files.

I think my first step is to get my library all ripped to my main system. Once's that done I can test it with my laptop to start with and then start playing with different devices

Do the "anti-diffraction" grills of the RTI series really do all that much? I feel like the sound is slightly better with the grills on, but I have a feeling it's just my mind playing tricks on me after having read the technology page on Polk's site about them.

Someone convince me that they don't make a difference so I can rest easy with the grills tucked away and cherry finish gleaming proudly.

Doesn't really matter if your eyes or mind are playing tricks on you. If it sounds better go with it. I personally don't see how anything in front of the speakers make them sound any better.
