I just felt it was about time we had an official polk speaker thread , being that according to the speaker brand poll , we have quite a few polkies in here. This might be a good place to discuss tweaks , problems or experiences with your speakers. I for one own a pair of Rti 8s which im very thrilled with and just recently upgraded my center speaker to the almighty csi 5 which has turned out to live up to the hype. The weak link in my set up is my Boston acoustic subwoofer which really isnt that bad but I could do better. The sub is positioned right next to my throne (sweat spot) ,a position I found to sound the best(at this location it also doubles as a poor man's butt kicker
). Anyhoo , it will be nice to hear from other polkies out there....

Hi all, I have had Polk speakers for years car and home. I just got a new set up in the house and thought Id share it and get some feedback on it. Here is what I have.

Samsung 50" DLP

Denon AVR 2800 (few years old but was a little ahead of its time back then)

Onkyo TX844 (VERY OLD, used as an amp for kitchen and outside speakers)

Toshiba DVD recorder/player

Scientific Atlanta HD DVR cable box

Polk Audio Surround Bar

JBL 12" sub

Dynex clean power supply and surge protector

I have the 10" Polk sub but its just not as punchy as my 12". However, there is another place that I can put it to see if it will sound better. I have only had the TV and the Surround bar and the HD cable for a week now and so far Im very pleased. The Surround bar does a fairly good job of duplicating 5.1. Id say It's about 80% accurate. Extremly good compromise for only having 1 speaker and a sub. Plus It makes the wife happy
. If anyone has any questions, just ask. I know this Surround bar has created somewhat of a stir among us AV junkies.

RT55i's all the way around with a CS400i center for my 6.1 set up. I've had mine for about four years now, but will be changing them over for some new Klipsch Reference after the first of the year possibly.

I have been very happy with them through the years, but I have always liked the looks & sound of the Klipsch a bit more. If I don't go the Klipsch I will be adding sperate amps for sure, but until the time comes.

I own a few different brands, but most are polk and I've been a long time owner/fan.

Own :

-rti38's

-csi40

-fxi50's

-rt7's

-cs245i

Ever since I've owned my rt7's I've loved the polk sound, especially on vocals and acoustical instruments.. non-fatiguing.. That midrange.. mmm. mmm... The rti38's are close, but I still think the old rt7's may sound the best still. Havn't really had the cash for the lsi's but if I find a good deal on used pair ill probably buy em'.. Their ip active speakers are very interesting, cool to see them at the forefront. I think that is going to be the next big change is having active powered speakers that hook up with ip or other digital protocals.

Alright...the deal at Tweeter for the T90EB for 350.00 a pair are the Monitor 60 Euro version. I think the only difference is the support feet are black instead of silver. Drivers seem the same! For those that are interested in this good deal. Also, they are on back order, so you will have to wait a while if you want to order a pair.

I picked up the Polk R50s and 15s from Frys for next to nothing last year. I put in a CSi3 center from ebay. I like the sound of the Rs, but recognize the RTis are better. I'm going to stay with these awhile before I decide on next steps. I'll give the RTis consideration, but will probably look at the LSis or other brands when I'm ready. I'm sure it's true with a lot of speakers, but putting separate amps on them certainly improves the sound, even the Rs.

I'm a fan of Polk & have owned various speakers of theirs throughout the past 15 years or so. I currently only have my RTi8's boxed up, having sold off the RTi6's and CSi5 during the last 2 weeks. I just wasn't happy with the CSi5, but I've always been a very picky person when it comes to the center channel. I would have tried out a LSi for the center, but ran across Mirage speakers in my search & went with them. Other than the CSi5, the RTi lineup is & has been amazing for me. I still have Polk in my car though, so I haven't completely jumped ship.

I'm enjoying my best-bang-for-my-buck HT:

Main: Polk R50s

Center: Polk CSi3

Surround: Polk R30s

Rear: Polk R15s

Sub: Polk PSW12

All Cherry Wood Editions

Amp/Receiver: Harman/Kardon AVR635

War of the Worlds DVD really K-A (kicks a**) with my set up. I couldn't be happier.

Perfect example of the "high end " dealer snobbery we are all familiar with. As soon as polk started catering to the masses they felt polks were'nt good enough to grace thier stores.
