Westinghouse 42" LCD w/1080p. MSRP ONLY - Page 2

I called Westinghouse and e-mailed them and all they would say was Q1 for delivery, i.e. sometime in the next three months. No MSRP.

Argh. I would like to get the 37 or the 42 but I want to know more about the 42 before making a decision. Even just knowing when it will arrive would be nice.

Oh well, I guess I can keep dreaming. Anybody out there hear anything more specific?
I also called westinghouse today and the MSRP they quoted on the 42" will be same or close to the initial MSRP of the 37" model which I believe was $2299 or $2499? The guy wouldn't tell me when it will be released, but all he said was that once all the bugs are ironed out, the production will start and the 42" models should be available within a week or two from the production date.

However, our member baschew seems to be getting his unit soon. So I'm not sure what the real story is. I would love to hear some first hand review prior to the 15th of Jan if possible. Well, let's see what CES brings us, it's about to start and hopefully Westinghouse will have some official words about 42" availability.

Why can't HDMI accept 1080p? Is it a result of the input/outputs themselves or is it that the cables manufactured today can't transmit 1080p signals? When this Westy 42" comes out the HDMI port won't be able to broadcast 1080p? Please explain further!

Umm...did you even read the posts in this thread? It was explained as a "standard" issue. 1080p is not supported by the HDMI standard, at least, officially.

Strange that the 1080p inputs keep getting switched around. Now we show 4 inputs (which is what was first shown, then went to 2 inputs being 1080p, now back to 4???), 1xHDMI, 2xDVI, and 1xVGA... Should be interesting to see what it actually is.

I f i didn't read the posts how would I know they said it won't support it ? I am asking if the HDMI input in the Westy 42" will support 1080p over HDMI (v.1.3) or not.

Yeah, I really would like to jump on the 42" bandwagon if it's a reasonable MSRP. I'm sick of my GWIII's weak performance as an HTPC monitor, but 37" is just a little smaller than i'm ready to go. It would be nice if Westinghouse had some hard information and stopped teasing us!
This looks really really good. I was looking 42" philips and toshiba plasmas, as well as the 37" westinghouse. I liked the 37" because of the 1080p support, but liked the plasmas because of the size and better black lvls... this new 42" will atleast fix the size issue, if the PQ is also better, it's a done deal.
the bezels look nicer than the 37" for sure. It will make a good decoration in my family room. Supposedly, the 42" is a successor of the 37", which I think is a great LCD for the price. If the new specs are true with 1080p enabled in all 4 ports, it would make even a better choice since I'm gaining more devices that require DVI/HDMI ports.

Well, that's a good question, but it seems that we all know the same information, what is stated on the web site. It also seems that Westinghouse is being pretty tight lipped about the unit, not providing any more information than what is available.

I doubt we'll know until someone buys one, and tests it out. I for one, would be pretty ticked, if I bought a device this expensive, which said it could support 1080p on the HDMI port, and find out that it really can't...

The website is now updated again it looks like 1 HDMI 2 dvi and 1 vga all state 1080p now.

I emailed them before regarding a previous connection section that only had hdmi with 1080p whether or not it was v1.2 or 1.3 spec but did not get any answer.

I move into an apartment on feb 8th. I hope i can pick one of these up by then. hdmi for ps3 if it indeed does support 1080p, xbox 360 over component, dvi to pc and one other dvi for maybe a dvd player. This would make a great addition.

Yeah, I pointed that out a few posts above. Seems like their site changes frequently. I'm hoping for what's on there now, versus what used to be on there (I think before, it was just 1xHDMI and 1xVGA that supported 1080p, but I may be wrong.)

Even though my brand new 37" Westinghouse panel looks beautiful I'd been suffering a little 42" angst, but this reassures me that I made the right decision for my wallet (especially with the additional break the retailer gave me for bungling the shipping).

Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
https://www.westinghousedigital.com/...aspx?whlm=cnav

You left out the BEST part:

56"

The 56-inch panel features:
· 3840x2160 resolution, four times 1080p—the highest resolution currently
available for HDTV—or eight million pixels.
· Industry-leading 8-millisecond response time delivers clear images for fast
action in motion video games, movies and sports.
· Ultra-bright 600-nit display and 1000:1 contrast ratio deliver vivid colors
and bright images even in harsh lighting conditions.
· Advanced color gamut to display the broadest possible range of color.

Not that this will come out any time soon, or be an affordable price...but it's cool. 8 million pixels!

It looks like they are also coming out with a 47" version of the current lineup as well. There will be a 37", 42" and 47".. 47" may be a bit big for my room, but 42" should do nicely.. in any case, the 42" may not be the flagship like some thought, but rather, a midsized.
This TV sounds even better now with an HDMI input, the resolution on the 56" is crazy. I look forward to seeing these panels when I get to CES on Saturday.
56" and 3840x2160 - I'm hoping for a viewing distance of 3'. It's going to need un-destroyed 1080 content an a super VP.

42" model users manual now available for download and it shows 1080p on HDMI, DVI-1/2, and VGA. Wondering how long we have to wait until the actual floor display model can seen at the BB.

I would love to know how you are the only one in the world who has gotten a direct response from Westinghouse! I have called them 10 times and so have many people I know and all we can get out of 'em is, "It should be available sometime within the first 3 months" You're honestly telling us that you will have one in two weeks? Sounds pretty farcical to me. Why would they divulge to you that they are in the harbor going through customs, as this would be extremely irrelevant in dealing with a sale? With respect to your claim, they would owe you about as much of an explanation about what progress the T.V.'s are making entering the country as they would Sony! When Best Buy gets one ...We will get one...end of story!

It's interesting that the manual doesn't list 1080p under the HDTV compatibility section on page 22 of the manual. Maybe that's just because there aren't any 1080p broadcasts yet.

I think you may be mistaken. The manual states that the HDMI input "Supports up to 720p/1080i." There is no mention in the manual that the HDMI input accepts a 1080p signal. I know the website still lists 1080p support but the manual doesn't. I guess you can take your pick. Considering the frequent revisions and mistakes on the web site, I'm going to go with the manual.

Wow!!! 3840x2160 resolution, great for digital photography!!

What video source can output that resolution? Which PC video card?

Which company is making this 56" LCD panel? ChiMei?

wonder if this will have glass like the OLEVIA 42"??? i think the glass actually makes for a much sharper picture.. despite it making the lcd a crapload heavier than other lcds

oh and the new bezel looks very sharp and quite a bit high-end now... westinghouse definitely has a niche market on their hands, people who want 1080p in a 42" display and want to actually have 1080p be an input! funny how its so hard for other companies to provide that

I was wondering the same thing, about the glass. But if the weight spec is correct, then I doubt it, because it almost weighs in identical to the 37" model...unless it's *another* mistake?! :D

Why would Westy make a 37" that accepts 1080p only to follow that up with a 42" that doesn't?

Just got back from CES today. I checked out all the westinghouse sets first hand and had a 45 min conversation with one of the engineers. I was told 42inch set was at customs and would be at BB before march. Also that it does accept 1080p on Hdmi and component. Retail price is $2799 for the 42inch and $3499 for the 47inch. The 56inch is Chi Mei, it was just a demo to get other manufacturers interested in supporting this sort of high resolution technology. This pic is the 56 inch with circuit board layout. The image is so good that in person the display looks like paper. It is truly unbelievable
