I don't think this thead is a particular good idea, how about asking Darinp to write a sticky about ANSI and on/off CR (and with respect to CRT probably peak white as well). I am sure he would do a considerable and sound job.

This would be IMO a much better solution and BTW it would be free of above implied but not fully revealed arguments...

ChrisWiggles mentioned that he was working on a CR sticky.

The opportunity has been mentioned to darin before.

I'm sure you know that Clarence's goal was not to make it easier for people to read or understand this stuff as he left all the statements I referenced in other threads as is without my comments about them there. Doing your suggestion wouldn't achieve Clarence's goal of protecting Mike Parker from answering the questions in this post:

:)

Actually, I think it is a good idea for somebody to do a writeup on CR. Those of us who saw a G70 on a 1.5 gain screen and a Ruby on a Firehawk in the same room last night (before we put both on his screen) saw the effect of ANSI CR. Just ask the G70 owner. He told me it was pretty clear. But I think a knowledgeable CRT who cares about what goes into images could write such a sticky. It could have been Guy Kuo, but he isn't a CRTer right now.

It might be nice to have an intelligent writeup by a CRTer who understands this stuff so that people aren't misled about ANSI CR by posts like this one by Mike Parker:

that Clarence has now protected by moving my questioning of to this thread.

Maybe the name of the forum should be changed to, "Clarence's CRT Forum" and he can just make sure that anything that he doesn't want questioned, doesn't get questioned. :)
