|Pioneer re: the 533 & they indicated you have to set a recording with their built on TV Guide & Panasonic says if a channel is not available with their built in TV Guide, you can not record it. Please advise!
This is not true, there are muliple ways to record on the Pany&Pioneer. What they meant was that you can't schedule a recording via the TVGOS for a channel it doesn't recogonize.
You can always record manually(press Record) via the recorders S-video /composite /RF input(s) from your comcast cable box. You can schedule a manul timer recording from the same inputs.
I have the Pioneer 531H (533H w/o DV in). I do not use the TVGOS at all (not configured). The Pioneer DVD recorders will respond to Pioneer VCR remote control commands. My TWC cable EPG has a VCR Commander function that controls my 531 via the TWC STB's IR-blaster as if it were a VCR. Works great for me and it also inserts the shows title in my DVD recording. PS this (VCR command route) won't work for the Panasonic.
I don't know if Comcast has the VCR function but TWC is not the only one with it.
There are multiple ways to record, some easy ....some less easy.
