Does anyone have real life pictures of EVO2-DFS speakers? The specs make them sound GIGANTIC especially depth, sometimes an actual visual will help me see what they really look like.

Hi all, I'm looking for advise on an upgrade.

I currently have a full set of diamond 9s (9.5 Front, 9.1 Rear and 9CS Center). I am driving them with a Sony STR-DA1200ES 100w\\7ch receiver.

I use this for movies\\TV but also for 2 channel music from a DAC using the anologue direct feature on the receiver.

I would like to get better 2 channel sound so was looking at upgrading the fronts to Opus 2-1s.

I know that a more powerful amp would be better for this but in the meantime (untill I have more $$$) do you think the Sony amp will be ok?

Also what are your thoughts on using the Diamond series rears and center with the Opus fronts?

I'd consider to also get the Opus center speaker for your front stage. Diamond rears should be okay

Yeah I'm leaning towards the opus center as I have read that that is pretty much the speaker doing most of the work when watching multi channel movies etc.

Hoping to get a price back from the supplier for the Opus 2-1s today and might ask them to add the center as well.

Another question:

If the supplier cant get me the 2-1s I know that they have the 2-2s in stock. My amp is at the low end to run these (manual states 100-500w) but would this be helped if I use my amps bi-amp setup?

the opus speakers do benefit from more amp power and as bi-amping them gives them more power it should help. (I noticed a difference going from the internal amps in the yamaha rx-v3900 to the rotel rmb-1095). The opus 2-2 have a slightly higher sensitivity (Db/w) than the 2-1

Hi guys

I recently purchased a Wharfedale WA-12SB sub. The moment I turned it on, I noticed a buzzing sound, even without anything connected. The problem is - my apartment is super quiet and the sub is against a wall, making the buzz resonate. Does anyone here know if their Wharfedale subs buzz like this ?

My SW150 does not buzz. Try to connect it up and see if the buzzing continues. Maybe its just amplifying noise without any imput.

Connected it to the amp with a screened cable, the buzzing sound is constant and does not vary when I adjust the level or connect/disconnect the sub. Checked the actual woofer, it's not the one making the sound. So looks to me like a bad quality power supply ...

hi all
I'm new in the amp world and i like to learn from you.
i bought from 2 days ago Diamond 10.5 and i choice them because they are 3 way speakers not like 10.6. i know 10.6 is more power. the receiver i have is Onkyo 608. i have Diamond CM for center really I'm satisfied when i hear music or watching movies. next month i will upgrade the other speakers what you think for the surrounded speakers and Sub. i like to know are that is will be good when i use THX mode.

If you schroll back through the dates, then you'll notice this isn't a hip and happening thread. But it is visited.

I have a matching set of Evo 1s (2x40s, CS and 4x10s), running from an Emotiva UPA-5 (5 channel amp) - the 40s have 4 chanels and the CS the remaining - hooked to an Onkyo 805 7.1 THX AVR.

I previously had Raidiance speakers, small at that.

My advice, go for the biggest speakers you can afford and make sure that they match. Then get an amp to run the mains.

What are the differences between the Diamond 9.6 and 10.6?
At my local retailer, the 9.6 is $50 extra per pair.

Which one is the better speaker? I would've thought the 10.6, but the 9.6 is more expensive??

Diamond 9.6 is equal diamond 10.7 . the 10.6 is equal 9.5. for that you found the 9.6 is expensive than 10.6.
you must compare between Diamond 9.6 and 10.7

Diamond 10 is look more nice than diamond 9.

i have Diamond 10.5. I choice it because it is 3 way speakers. and the sound is very great.

10.6 is a 2.5 way speakers

During my search for speakers the term "Reference" came up quite often. I have not been able to determine what that really refers to, other than to notice reference speakers are usually on the larger size. Does it relate only to size? My Diamond 10.5's are floor standing cabinets with drivers = 6.5", 3", and tweet, would they be considered reference speakers?

Any explanation of this term would be appreciated.

I asked the question on another forum and got some answers. Calling a speaker a reference speaker is just marketing fluff that manufactures use to imply the speaker is capable of a higher level of sound reproduction than other speakers. A manufacturer usually reserves the REFERENCE label for their high end product. There is no defined performance capability that a speaker must have in order to be called a reference speaker. One of the responders to my question pointed out that the term Reference, when used to discuss the quality of sound heard in for instance a theatre, does impose certain measurable sound characteristics that must be met. The THX standard is an example. The "Reference" label can be put on any speaker without it being required to meet any performance standards.

To answer my question, I guess my Diamond 10.5 can be reference speakers if I want them to be.

has anyone replace the grills on their Opus speakers? I have the Opus 2's now for last few years and several of the tabs have broken off on the grills so it doesn't take much to knock them off.

A couple of mine have broken off over the years (had mine for about 6 years now I think) and you're right it's a design flaw IMO. What I found to work as a replacement is getting some of the half inch sticky backed black velcro rolls and cutting a small amount and using it at the corners of the grills that have the broken pin. Depending on the grill and the break you might have to double up on one side to get the necessary thickness. Being black tho they are invisible behind the grill corner. That's what has worked for me.

Hello,

I've been looking into getting some Diamond 10.1s but I had a few questions. I'm on a budget and I've been reading that the 10.1s are some of the best budget speakers out there. Right now I have an HK3490 receiver. Would that be an acceptable amplifer to run the 10.1s? I'm really not looking to change my receiver, would there be a better option for similar money?

I was able to drive my Diamond 9.1s with my Denon 1909 (90W/channel) without any problems. I've heard very good things about the HK3490, should drive the Diamond 10.1s without issue.

Hi,

I have a pair of Wharfedale W90 speakers (sand-filled model).
I'm desperately looking for someone who has a photograph of the crossover
for these, or some know-how of the configuration.

I've been attempting to repair them for a year and have had some techs playing around with bypassing the crossover (didn't work).

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I've almost given up. Wharfedale informed me that they lost this information when one of their facilities burnt several years ago.
Finding someone with some know-how is my only hope.

Also regarding the Evo2-DFS surrounds, does anybody know if these are bipole/dipoles? It looks like it might be from the pic, but it's hard to tell. It seems to have 2 x 5" drivers and a single 1" tweeter. A lot of the ones I've seen seem to have either 2 tweeters and 1 driver, or 2 tweeters and 2 drivers, not 1 tweeter and 2 drivers.

It's hard to tell from the specs on the Wharfedale site.

Also, does anybody have any experience with how these sound?
