I noticed Todd was logging in a lot of hours last week. It also seems like Cheryl isn't her usual perky self of late. I wonder if she's one of the many not thrilled about the expanded work load?

Anyone catch the story on Comcast unleashing their Xfinity brand in Knoxville? It said one of the benefits was improved picture quality. But it didn't say if it was for all channels (including the starved HD channels) or just the crappy SD channels.

So apparently Megan Campbell is no longer at WATE. The phrasing of the "no comment" from their management reads like she was let go. Nothing against Mrs. Campbell but nice to see them come to their senses as all I ever heard about her was complaints and the way she came there in the first place was shady as well.

Now if only they could get Ken or Bob to come back.....

I thought she wasn't a Meteorologist since she always tried so hard to sound like one, using the same words and phrases all the time, so I was surprised to read in the NewsSentinel that she was one. Anyway, she's no big loss to me.

As of this morning sometime, Comcast is just running the weather almanac on "basic" (analog) channel 18, i.e. sunrise and sunset times plus phases of the moon along with a frozen crawler at the bottom for ads and other messages. Wonder if that means they are finally starting the transition to HD here -- or maybe it's just another, different, malfunction to add to their long history? Guess we'll find out at least a clue to the answer as the day goes on.

WATE 6 10 p.m. Newscast returns August 1st, 2011. The newscast will air on WBXX CW20 7 days a week from 10-10:35 p.m. WATE will also be switching to high definition broadcasts for both stations later in the fall.

Can someone help me understand my needs for Comcast tv in Knoxville?

A friend of mine asked me if I had gotten my converter box yet. I told him I didn't need one because I thought he was talking about the converter boxes for OTA channels.

But, he said that Comcast told him he needed a different converter box or he would not be able to receive any cable channels. I assume this has something to do with a full digital conversion and the box downgrades the signal for non-HD subscribers. Is this correct?

And, when do i need one? I ask because Tuesday I seem to have lost all channels above 16 (I think it's 16...I'm not at home right now). I do not have an HD subscription or a Comcast cable box. I have a standard subscription with no cable box, running into a TiVo box.

Do I need one of these converter boxes? Is anyone else having issues in the Karns area?

You need a DTA (2 are included free) and it's the same price now for expanded basic as digital starter so you can get 1 digital box which has access to OD and program guide included in addition to the 2 DTAs for no additional mo. fees.

Cheryl Scott announced this morning that she is leaving WBIR.Her last day is Sunday,did not say where she is headed.

If you don't mind me asking which zip code are you in? I do not have the announced channels and I receive Universal HD on channel 409. I have also looked online at Comcast's channel lineups for Knoxville, Oak Ridge, Blount, Sevier Counties etc. and those lineups are all showing what we currently get in the chart and no SportSouth HD on 409...
I also know someone with Comcast in another part of town and they receive the same channels as I do.

I keep hearing lots of good things about AT&T U-Verse. Too bad they'll never be in my area. I'm in Powell and Frontier has the phone monopoly on us.

I was incorrect, SportSouth is 408.
WGN America HD is 437, BigTenHD is 472, NHLHD is 477, etc.

Interesting I don't have them maybe Comcast is doing the upgrades on a node by node basis? I know at least 2 zip codes that don't have them and there website is not showing the new channels in numerous zip codes I have tried including yours. I don't know why they would not turn them on for the entire area or at least everyone on the same headend.

Do you know how long you have had these channels active?

Since August 25. All of 37923 has them, been to two other houses not near mine (but still in the zip code) that do. All of 37919 has them, and I know they're out in East Knox as well. Campus is getting them, at least SportSouthHD, we pulled something from SportSouthHD off a Comcast DVR on campus yesterday.

No idea why some areas in the market wouldn't have them, that seems very odd to me. I'm just ecstatic we got SportSouthHD before football season. I've been watching it A LOT this week. That was the last SD channel I actually watched, so SD is dead to me now.

Thats very odd I know 37918 and 37920 do NOT have the new HD's yet. And yes SportSouth HD is a surprise to me cause it wasn't originally announced back in March on the lineup I picked up at the service center on Asheville Hwy. Hopefully we will get them soon...

I guess for now I am going to wait to mark them as available on the chart until at least I get them and other areas have them.

Fox Sports Tennessee's site is showing SportSouth as available in HD on channel 450 which I get SPEED HD on that channel... http://www.foxsportstennessee.com/pages/channelfinder/

It looks like on Zap2it.com that they are showing a Comcast Digital Rebuild Lineup that shows some changes then the original lineup I got back in March. So can someone confirm which one is correct for my chart... I still don't have the new channels

The channels marked in Red are the difference between the 2 lineups

I now have Sports South HD. I did not when this was first mentioned a few days back. My Tivo has no program info about it though. Usually I get a Tivo message when new channels come along, I may yet.

If anyone wanted a great example of how bad WVLT's picture is during live sporting events, yesterday was a good day to compare if you have DirecTV. They offered the NFL Sunday Ticket for free for the first week. I watched another game, but decided to check out the PQ on the Pittsburgh-Baltimore game done by CBS' #1 crew. The PQ was amazing. Very little macroblocking, crisp, colors jumped off the set, absolutely amazing. It's too bad our local stations have watered down the PQ as much as they have. I sure wish I could afford the Sunday Ticket.

Yeah, it even stuck out when watching NFLRedZone on Comcast, when the Titans scored late on RedZone, I flipped over to WVLT to watch the conclusion, much, much worse.

Do you have them yet? Spoke to my contact at Comcast who said that all zip codes should have been activated already. They've disabled remote DVR access while finishing this up, but channels should be active for all.
