Welcome to the festivities Arnott,
Philadelphia has two VHF channels that throw a wrench at the usual indoor UHF antennas. Channel 6.1/ABC/WPVI is a challenging low VHF channel. The same applies to high VHF 12.1/PBS/WHYY.
That said I think you should experiment with the $5 UHF bowtie connected to a $6 300 to 75 ohm converter. Connect that cobination to your digital TV tuner and run a channel scan. If everything comes in, 3.1 CBS, 6.1 ABC, 10.1 NBC, 12.1 PBS, 17.1 WPHL, 29.1 FOX, 57 CW and 61.? Ion you can call it a day. When I used the $11 radio shack bowtie rig at my home every major Philadelphia station came in beautifully. I only ran in to trouble when I added a TiVo DVR to the mix.
If the bowtie doesn't work, and you can't go to the roof then you will have to experiment with a wide array of indoor VHF/UHF antennas.
If you read the thread you know that unless you are willing to go with a roof or attic mounted antenna you are going to have to experiment and possibly compromise on what channels you receive.
