Hr10-250 lip sync problem with plasma

I have the same problem with my Onkyo 838 and I have ordered an Integra 4.6. Some folks suggest a video delay unit that is less expensive, but $600.00 for a new receiver doesn't seem that bad to me and it will fully resolve my problem.

I also have a lip synch problem with my Panasonic plasma (7UY), which is most visible with my D* TiVo, although it is also visible with my Samsung T360. The thing is it doesn't happen with all programming even on the same station. For example, I can watch the NBC affiliate from Boston and have absolutely no problem with the programming in the evening. Then the news comes on, and there is a very slight but noticeable issue. Then when Leno comes on, the lip synch is awful. Then I switch to the Providence NBC affiliate, and the picture quality gets worse (because they multicast), but there is absolutely no lip synch issue. Some stations have issues all the time. Last, there is almost never a lip synch issue on SD programming I watch through D*. So, I can't really figure it out. Also, the vast majority of my viewing is done through the plasma's speakers, so a sound delay device would not help me.

Not sure this is an option for you, but can't you send the audio and video into the TV (HDMI for me) and then send the audio from the TV out to the receiver? I assume the lip sync problem would be if you send the audio to the Home Theater receiver from the Satellite receiver.

My wife seems to be more sensitive to this than am I, she noticed it first. I have a PX60U and a HR10-250 that used to have lip sync problems. My video is sent through my receiver first - a Yamaha HTR 5990 - which fortunately has a audio sync delay adjustment. It seems unbelievable to me that a 3ms adjustment corrected the problem, but we both agree that it did.

BTW, I am using all HDMI connections.

If you have a lip sync problem with OTA channels it is caused by the display processing delay in your flat panel TV. You can correct it with an audio delay equipped AV receiver set to about 70 ms delay of the Dolby Digital output.

Some DirecTV HD channels may appear worse. Others have an audio stutter artifact caused by DirecTV "quick" fix for their own lip sync problems. Do a Google for "lip sync errors" for info on the causes and corrective measures. There are at least two manufacturers making adjustable audio delay boxes.

I am new to AVS Forum, so forgive me if I mess up.

I have a new LCD Samsung 32" HDTV with an ATSC receiver built-in. I also use DirecTV, but not with this set yet. My TV is on an outside antenna and digital reception and picture quality are excellent. Audio is via the TV speakers and I have no other equipment hooked to the TV (although I tested a DVD player).

My lip-sync issue sounds like all the stuff I have been reading. The Video lags the Audio but only when the broadcast is full wide 16:9 1080i format. The video lags audio by about .5 to .75 seconds. All the other digital programs I receive that are broadcast with cropped sides have only a very slight delay that is not too bad, probably less than .2 seconds.

Is this a broadcast issue or a TV issue?

I just can't believe that the new HD format TV's all have this problem with no way to fix it. It seems that some very basic electronic requirement has been overlooked.

I have the same issue. Mine is pretty inconsistent, so not sure if an audio delay device would work. Does a digital audio cable transmit audio faster than a coax audio cable by any chance? Does HDMI slow the video signal? Would a video processor, DVDO or Lumagen fix this problem? Thanks

I have same issue with a new Direct HD DVR and a Pioneer-PDP6070HD. While I can fix it if I adjust the receiver (all though it is different for each channel)-When just casually watching the TV through its interanal speakers it is obnoxious. So what is the fix? Is this just a software issue with the crap Direct DVR or is this related to my new plasma's technology. I have a 45" Sharp LCD in another room and do not seem to have the problem

I have a DCT 3416 1, firmware 16.35 connected to a Samsung HT-TQ85 home theater A/V receiver via HDMI. Output of A/V receiver is connected to Samsung S5053 Plasma via HDMI out. Before 16.35 I was not able to do this and got the Green Screen issue.
I had to use component cables to get around the problem. When I turn on all three, the TV screen says waiting for signal until the A/V receiver comes on and the picture and sound come on. The sound comes from the A/V receiver. Everything is fine for about 3 seconds and the Green screen flashes on for about a second and the video and audio go way out of sync with the audio lagging the video. Sometimes when switching channels from an HD channel to a non-HD channel the green screen flashes and the video and audio goes out of sync. It has even happened while just watching a channel or a recording.

There are two ways to get them back in sync, one is to turn the HDMI Audio on which sends the audio to the TV and turn it off again. This syncs everything up again until the next green screen. Second, change to another HD channel and back again.

Not sure which component is causing the problem. Has anyone else had this problem?
