ok I just edited this post...here are the codes and what they do...there is a seperate "993" code to enter for the volume to go both up and down however no code to turn both on and off the reciever....

CODES:

30135-on
30842-off
31298-off
31320-on
31531-on

and now I am having problems with the volume to work....(UPDATE)- ok for some weird reason I entered in "30842" pressed power shut it off.....than entered in "30105" pressed power and turned it on...and for some odd reason the volume both now works up and down....however just cant turn it off....O-well 1 function isnt going to kill me....I can get up and hit the power switch for christs sake.....if any one finds a way to use on/off and volume up/down...please reply.....good-night guys =)

Sorry but the directv remote will not give you something that onkyo oem remote doesn't even give you, a power toggle. the best code to use is 30135, to get the volume keys to work there has to be a tv code programmed to the tv device or the volume won't work. to punch through the onkyo volume to all devices:

1, av1 or av2
2. press and hold MUTE & SELECT for two blinks
3. enter 9 9 3
4. press SELECT

My comcast remote seems to respond to 5 digit codes rather than the 4-digit ones they provided (mine also has Aux instead of Aud but it the same button). For audio components it seems I need to add a 3 before the code (eg. 30135 and 30842 instead of 0135 and 0842). For my TV I had to add an extra 1 before the code. I think it probably has to do with the way the have the codes organized on the site it has seperate pages for TVs, Audio recievers, DVD, etc. So follow the normal setup process with these new codes and see if it works.

Actually I found the information officially:
"Newer models of the remote, called "Comcast Custom DVR 3 Device" by Comcast, use a 5-digit code. The first digit is 0 for a cable box, 1 for a TV, 2 for a VCR, DVR, or DVD player, and 3 for audio equipment. The other four digits are the traditional device codes."

I have the Onkyo HT-S3100 and after much looking, found someone with a 605 using 1789 tried it, and have power on, off and volume control!

Hi mates,
I've an onkyo tx-sr504 receiver and a grundig 2750 dvd player.
The grundig remote control broke down.
I would like to control my dvd-player with my onkyo remote control, but I haven't grundig code in my onkyo r.c. list.

I didn't find any code... anybody have some idea?

I thought about buying an other original grundig r.c. but an other one may break likewise if this broke.

For all of you here that are still looking for "The Code" I wanted to let you know that I found ONE code that works with the Onkyo receiver to turn the Power ON and OFF and Volume Up and Down. The code is 1789 and I have used it with two different universal remotes, from two different cable providers and also with two different models of Onkyo receivers.The only part that doesn't work is to switch it back and forth from TV to DVD or CD etc... But now you can use your universal remote that comes with your cable box without having to buy another remote or kemove anything. Enjoy!

Almost another year later and still the manufacturer or cable companies can't provide a code for the Onkyo receivers for the universal remotes. The 1789 code previously provided works great! Thanks!

To ian67 and fleetside61: Thanks. That 1789 code WORKS for both on and off. I have an Atlas remote for a Scientific Atlanta HD8300 and an Onkyo TX-SR50. I was going to go out and buy a universal remote, but you have saved me a lot of time and trouble.

I have an Onkyo TX-SR606 receiver and a Comcast DVR/HD Tuner DCT3412 I and none of the codes mentioned in this thread turn my receiver on. They all turn my receiver off but that's it. Am I doing something wrong?

I have a Comcast Custom DVR 3-Device Universal Remote - here's a link to the guide I was using - http://www.comcast.com/MediaLibrary/...ayokselect.pdf

Can someone please help me figure out what code will turn my Onkyo on AND off using my Comcast universal remote?

We can make this work. You didn't mention which setup code you're using, or explicitly say whether the OK/Select button is red or gray (the manual you're using is for gray), so these are somewhat generic instructions. Should work, though. This will provide a power toggle function to the Power key.

Use red numbers for the red OK/Select button remote, grey numbers for grey button remtoes.
Temporarily assign setup code 30842 or 0842 to AUX
1) Tap AUX
2) Press Setup until 2 blinks
3) Enter 30842 or 0842The remote should blink twice

Assign NEC1 IR protocol device 210, subdevice 108, function number 203 to Power (you don't need to understand these numbers)
1) Press Setup until 2 blinks
2) Enter 994 (2 blinks)
3) Tap Setup
4) Enter 00051
5) Tap Power (not All On)
The remote should blink twice

Assign setup code 30135 or 0135 to AUX (this is NEC1, 210.109)
1) Tap AUX
2) Press Setup until 2 blinks
3) Enter 30135 or 0135
The remote should blink twice

The remote has a grey "OK/Select" button. I was using code 0842 which turns off the Onkyo receiver but doesn't turn it on. I tried using code 0135 (which is the only other code on the list) and that does not do anything.

I tried doing your first step of entering code 30842 but when I get to 4 the light is a solid red for about 1-2 seconds and doesn't accept the number 2, therefore it doesn't blink twice when I'm done as it doesn't recognize the code.

Any thoughts? Thanks again for replying.

Yeah, I should have said that with the red OK/Select button the leading 3 is needed, while with the grey button remote, only 4 digits of setup code are used or accepted. So just drop the 3 in 30842 or 30135 and use 0135 and 0842 instead.

However, I am quite surprised that 0135 doesn't "do anything". It should control volume and mute, and lots of other functions. In fact, 0135 is the better setup code for Onkyo receivers.

Can you confirm whether any button work using 0135?

So I checked code 0135 and it does absolutely nothing. I checked the volume and mute and get nothing. Really frustrating. 0184 turns off receiver but not on. I can deal with it but it gets my wife goes nuts.

mdavej - Just to confirm, you're talking about after I enter code 0842 for "Aux" button, to then do the setup process again on the "Aux" button and enter 00051 correct?

No, that's incorrect. You've already programmed AUX mode to use device code 0842, so that's done. (Make sure it's still 0842, not 00051). All you need to do now is press and release AUX to make sure you're in AUX mode, aim your remote at the Onkyo then press and release Setup (don't hold it) and quickly press 00051. When you press the last digit, the Onkyo should toggle on or off. Try it again (tap Setup 00051) to see if it toggles back on or off. If that works, use 3FG's "Assign NEC1..." steps to program the power button. We can also give you similar codes for volume and mute if you want.

Gentlemen - You have saved me hours of frustration and "relax" conversations with my wife. I am now able to turn everything on and off with my Comcast remote.

Thank you so much for your help. If you have codes to control the volume and mute of the receiver with my Comcast controller I would greatly appreciate that.

3F - Yes I mis-spoke when I said 0184. I did mean 0842.

To get Volume to work, it will be necessary to use setup code 0135. That should work immediately, but if it doesn't try tapping Setup followed by:
Vol+ 00183
Vol- 00187
Mute 00184.

If these work, you can assign them using 994, but be sure to use setup code 0135.

Do I need to start all the way from the beginning with Code 0135? Just want to make sure I'm doing the right steps in the correct order.

If I have understood you correctly, you currently have power working using setup code 0842 and entering the EFC 00051. So that is already done, and changing to a different setup code won't affect this.

Now, asssign 0135 to AUX. That should work immediately, but if it doesn't, assign the EFCs for Vol+/- and Mute. That should give you the volume group buttons. I think you'll find that some other functions work as well. However, with the Comcast remote, the Channel Lock feature is probably active, and so CH+/-, digit buttons, and OK/Select will be sent to the cable box, even though you're in AUX mode. If you need those buttons for the receiver, we can post the EFCs for those also.

Finally, just leave the setup code at 0135.

3Fingered - I assigned setup code 0135to Aux which, from what I could tell, made no changes. But when I did press Aux - Setup - Code 00183, it did move the volume up 1 notch on the receiver. The same occurred for other codes, 1 notch volume down, and mute on/off.

So now how do I get it so when I just press Vol +/- it just automatically does it on the receiver instead of having to enter the codes? Right now, when I press Vol +/- or Mute the "TV" button lights up but nothing occurs.

If I understand you correctly, if you press Aux, then change the volume, the TV volume changes. So you apparently have the volume controls locked to TV mode.

You have to decide exactly where you want vol to come from for each device.
- In Aux mode, I assume you want Aux volume control
- In TV mode, do you want TV or Aux volume?
- In CBL mode, do you want TV or Aux volume?

First remove all volume locks so we can start fresh - hold setup for 2 blinks then 993, Vol- (4 blinks). Now lock vol in each mode as desired - press the mode you want to change (i.e., CBL), hold setup for 2 blinks, 993, press the device you want vol to come from (i.e., AUX). Repeat for each mode you want to change (i.e., TV, DVD, etc.). So if you locked CBL vol to AUX, then when you press the vol buttons in CBL mode, the Onkyo volume will change.

I'm not sure about a grey button Comcast, but a red button remote works slightly differently.

There is only one VPT device. 993 followed by tapping a device button selects that device as the VPT device for all device modes. You can then selectively remove other devices from VPT by tapping the device mode button to be removed, setup for 2 blinks, 993, and then Vol -. That should give 4 blinks. The VPT procedures are in the insruction sheet.

Paul, this may be a little confusing, so if you have trouble, figure out the answers to mdavej's questions, and we can suggest the easiest way to get what you want.

(At our house, we always want volume/mute to go to the AUX device, so it is easy-- Setup for 2 blinks, 993, tap AUX.)

I have the red ok/select Comcast remote & the Onkyo receiver. I think I need to start from scratch to program the remote. I like all others here want to be able to turn the receiver on & off w/ my Comcast remote. Can you tell me how to start over. I followed your instructions above, but I think I did something wrong or maybe I'm not clear how to operate the remote after the programming.

Can you assume I'm clueless about all this stuff and walk me through the steps again?

I should add that following the instructions didn't change anything except that now to turn the receiver on I have to tap setup then power rather than just power. Tapping setup then power again does not turn the receiver off.
