I think you'll be very happy with them. Should be a significant upgrade over the nano's...

And since you've been without a sub for this long, I think you'll be happy with the added bass from just the OMD's.... although in the long run, you'll be even happier once you do get a sub...

For those who have the OMD line in rosewood... Would you say you find the color contemporary? Modern? Classic? Rich? Do they 'fit' in a more modern setup? Is the piano black much more modern? I have piano black, but adding a C1 and really like the rosewood look for it. Problem is all my other furniture is black so I'm trying to decide if it would blend ok or if I should stick with piano black.

Thanks.

I have the OMD-5 in rosewood, and would say it looks very modern... I've had other speakers in piano black... and I wouldn't say one or more or less modern looking than the other, just different.

My biggest grip with piano black is that it's a dust/fingerprint magnet... and while any gloss finish will show that, it's less noticeable with the gloss rosewood... And having a grain visible beneath that gloss surface really adds nice depth to the finish, IMO.

It's really up to you when it comes to matching with the furniture. Gloss black will match black (obviously), but rosewood works very well with black, but will stand out more, instead of blending in. It's entirely your call if you want to emphasize the speaker visually or not...

I agree with alphiii. The rosewood on the OMD's is much more modern than a traditional real wood veneered speaker. The rosewood itself is subtle but the glossy finish makes them stand out a bit and they aren't like a furniture grade wood veneered speaker where the grain is very easy to distinguish and feel by touch. I think the modern finish matches well with the overall non-traditional looking design of the speaker.

Since your other speakers are gloss black I'd go with the black center as well but that's just my preference. Regardless of room aesthetics I always will choose a wood color speaker over a black one but I prefer to keep the color uniform for all speakers.

alphaiii & shodulik,

Thanks, that is what I was trying to get to, if it looked like traditional/classic wood veneer. The photos do make it look much sleeker due to the high gloss and overall design.

Shodulik, I'm thinking center in rosewood and keeping the other two L&R OMD5's in piano black because long term they will become rears and I'm pretty damn sure based on how much I like the OMD5's that I'll get OMD 15's or higher at some point. I'd rather keep rears more 'hidden' and have the fronts pop out, which seems like the rosewood would do with black furniture. Tough call though!

Ah ok Shaps that sounds like a good plan!

Do it before they are all gone. Rosewood is nice looking.

Does anyone have a picture of how the rubber bumpers are supposed to be positioned on the back of the OMD5s ?

I use the omnimount 20 wall mount with mine. Highly recommend them. Not sure if the 10's will be sufficient

Edit -I actually use the 10's

Hey ShapS,

I have a OMDC1 in rosewood that I used for all of 1 week before running across an open box OMD-15 to use as my center. My pio sits high enough to allow it so 3 OMD-15's across the front sounded good to me. Let me know if you're interested.

Has anyone had any luck with different mount for an OMD5 than an Omnimount. The wall mount that comes with the speaker makes me concerned when I mount it upside down. I just really hate to have to spend $25-30 more per speaker (6x) for an Omnimount.

Appreciate it, but ended up doing piano black instead. Should be here Thurs!

I'm not sure what difference upside down vs. right side up makes with the included mount but for what it's worth I mounted all six of my omd-5s upside down with the included mount and they're all rock solid. Just use a good drywall anchor. Now if you looking to get them further from the wall that's a different story.

The C1 has arrive, wow this thing is big. Especially with the grill on. It came with a stand for on top of my cabinet, but the stand allows all kinds of angles. How angled upward is this suppose to be?

The normal position is for the back side of the speaker to be perpendicular to the base but then you should adjust it to your preferences.

Picked up my OMD5s this afternoon. Just barely fit all 3 boxes into the passenger seat of my Miata.

First Impressions: They are larger than I expected, they look double the size of my nanosats. I was a bit worried that they'd get in the way of my projector's light throw but it didn't turn out to be an issue.

The finish on them looks amazing! The grain in the maple looks really good contrasting all the dark coloured wood furniture I have in my loft.

They're still too new to evaluate the sound, have to work on breaking them in over the next week or two.

One negative though. A positive binding post on one of the speakers was loose when I received it. I can move it in and out a few millimetres. I didn't notice until I got it home. It doesn't seem to affect the speaker's sound though. I'll probably call up Mirage on Monday and see if they can fix it under warranty since they're in my city.

Here's a comparison picture of the nanosat vs the OMD5.

I had the same problem with one of my OMD-5's when I bought them. If I tried to loosen the binding post to accept bare wire, it would loosen from the cabinet instead of just the "cap" loosening.

Vann's had no issue with swapping it out for another one.

WOW Love that color! I'm it adds a nice pop! Any chance you can post a more zoomed out picture? Really want to see how these look against dark furniture.
Here's a zoomed out picture. The media center is an ikea besta brown/black with the high gloss brown fronts.

Does anybody have contact info for Mirage Corporate so I can return 2 OMD5s that have blown woofers? Bought them from vanns in '09. Do you think they will replace them for free under warranty?

I am new to Mirage but is the om-9 a good speaker? Worth a try for $300?
I am looking for a recommendation for a center channel to replace my larger Mirage. I had to sell it because of size. I have all Mirage speakers, (M7si and OM-R2B for the rears.) and will be placing the new center channel on a fireplace mantel. The new Mirage centers point up in the air (yes, I know they say omnipolar) and from what I read here are not as full sounding.

I have been unable to find some older Mirage centers, so I am looking for another manufacturer that may be a good counterpart to Mirage. I always thought of the Mirage sound as warm, some may say dark, but not crisp or bright. Thanks for your help!

Quick question for Mirage owners -- will the MX51's be powerful enough to fill my 730 sq. ft. space? I have 13' ceilings and was looking for a set to ceiling-mount in the four corners of my condo. Here's the floorplan if it helps at all...any feedback would be much appreciated - thanks!
