How or what kinda signs do you look for when they roll off?

Are you guys using banana clips in the back of your speakers or bare wire? I've looked all over for like a L shaped banana clip but no success.
I've never seen an L shaped banana plug. Maybe bare wire is your best solution if you have the no room for regular banana plugs.

The mirage speakers have great posts, I wouldn't bother with banana plugs

Try searching on 90 degree banana plug or angle banana plug

audioholics discussion

audiogon mentions some brand names

parts express side entry

parts express angled

EZ Hook

IXOS angled

flatwire ones are the closest but expensive

Though unless you plan to unplug and replug them regularly, banana plugs don't add any functional benefit. Some like the look. For most of my speakers, they stay wired up for years, so bare wire works for me.

There was a test review that said they were rolling off in the '80ish haz range. Even though these are acoustic suspension speakers mirage was a little ambitious with their claims of bass.

Home Theater Mag actually measured them as rolling off higher... -3dB was at 101Hz...

If you need to have the wires come in at an angle, why not use spade connectors instead of bananas?

Would anyone have insight on using the OMD-R as the front channels in addition to surround channels? Just wondering if they would work in that arrangement.

Hey everyone, I've been a long time follower of this thread (at least 2 years) but I have neglected join. I wanted to post a link of the CEDIA Expo brochure that shows an image of the "Mirage" MX-F45. The appearance seems to have changed significantly. Unfortunately, since I am a new member here, I can't display a URL until I have at least 3 posts.

In the meantime, I will share with you a little information I discovered regarding the energy/mirage brand. I spoke with an audio dealer near my home who attended CES 2012 in Las Vegas. He confirmed that the Mirage brand is officially dead and that their key technologies (patented omnipolar technology etc) have been relinquished to Jamo (this was mentioned previously but I just wanted to confirm). Unfortunately, he did not know whether the current Mirage speaker line (OMD-5's, OMD-28's etc) would still be made under the Jamo name. Since Jamo manufactures its own speaker drivers, its quite possible that we may never encounter an Omnipolar speaker capable of producing the same quality of sound as the old Mirage OMD line. I'm hoping that the new speakers are actually better, but I remain doubtful.

The dealer I spoke with told me that the Energy speaker line will remain intact and that its sound signature will be kept relatively the same.

I don't know where Vanns sources their Mirage speakers, but there's a possibility they could continue to sell them as long as there is a strong demand. I sincerely hope this is the case because they are a great bang-for-your-buck speaker line.

Okay, I should be able to show the link now.

It seems like the original tweeter omniguide has been replaced in favor of an inverted omniguide that uses the midrange woofer as a reflecting surface.

Good review. Sensitivity was a little lower than Mirage claim too.

Thanks. Some interesting stuff in there, although it's from August I guess.

New owner of a pair of OMD-15s , OMD-5s and a OMD-C1 -- grabbed these from VANNS after reading this forum, Kudos to all on this forum for giving me the push I needed to drop down the cash and piss off the wife. I think I made a great choice, they are simply elegant in black. I can't wait until they are broken in.

Any small sub recommendations or can I get by without one with the OMD-15s?

Congrats, great setup. As for a sub how big is your room, is it open or sealed floor plan, what is your budget, and what percent movie, music do you watch or listen to??

Small room approx 20 x 30 , open hard tiled floor - looking for something I can hide(small) or high WAF factor, clear precise low end bass, Budget ~1000. I've have a Denon AVR-2112CI to power the system, possible purchase some small amps if necessary.

I tend to not play music loud.

80% music
20% Movies

Just a quick note my last system in this space was a 5.1 system from logitech hooked directly to the TV and PC. OOOOh-Boy was I missing musical clarity in this office. I've been bitten by the bug no turning back now...

I would go with dual Epik legends, Call Chad at Epik subwoofers tell him your room size and ask him his opinion. Great guy to deal with. Other subs to consider is HSU and Emotiva. I like Epik myself. http://www.epiksubwoofers.com/

I don't think it's a problem if the OMD5 surrounds are naturally rolling off a little above the cross over frequency. There really should not be any bass going to the surrounds. I suppose if you have a really powerful amp you could over drive these speakers. Otherwise, what would you accomplish by setting the cross over higher? The main OMD15's are good to below 80 Hz.

Anybody ever heard the Mirage in ceiling speakers? I'm contemplating using them instead of the current Polk ceiling speakers for my home theater surrounds.
They look great and would match better with my Mirage fronts and center.

Thanks. I'll check them out but may just stick with bare wire on the bike of them.

Yeah, I kinda heard the same thing from a local audio store down the street. The owner called one of his dealers to try and price me some Mirage speakers a few weeks ago but said only Vann's sells them of course. His dealer also told him come August I think it was there would be absolutely no more Mirage.

They have a bunch of their stuff in a big warehouse near me. I believe its all stored in a Amazon warehouse in Hebron, KY. It's like 15min away. Every time I order from them it's on my door step the next day. I just always have to pay tax on it though. Ordered my OMDC1, OMD15s and some stands from them.

I just finished my final break in on my OMD15s. I have the same setup in speakers as you. They sound great! I finally cranked it up a tiny bit and they sound amazing. Probably barely even pushing them and they rock.

Vanns has the OMD15 in rosewood for $399 right now. I paid $450 five months ago.
Thats an impressive price. Is vanns still going to be able to get the omd line made since mirage is going to get the axe?

When I bought my OMD15 a week half ago, like 3 days later they put the gloss black on a 1 day sale for $399 and I just happened to notice and and was able to get them to price adjust for me. Though I am still waiting on the credit to show up on my account they said it would take 7-10days. Prolly call them later today if it's not there to check on it.

From some of what I've read in the links above it sounds like no. But if they are making money and there is a market maybe they will for awhile longer. Seems like long term they are a gonner.
