What do you guys notice when your speakers start breaking in?

Yeah, pretty much hit it on the button I think. I could crank it up more and sounded great but when i kept going up slowly it got to a point where it sounded louder but scenes were missing that "oomph" that I thought should be there on certain things. Like everything was flat and sounded the same soft and loud scenes. It sounded better at the lower volume pretty much. Is that one of those times in order to fix that would be to look into a separate amp, like a Emotiva?

Well in my opinion yes, getting a separate amp would help. I am using a pair of Emotiva XPA-1's for the 15 fronts (which I realize is overkill.. but then one of these days Vann's might drop the price to a crazy cheap amount for the 28's ) and an XPA-3 for the C1 center and model 5 surrounds. I was using an XPA-2 for the fronts but had a chance to get a used pair of XPA-1's that I couldn't resist. You can't go wrong with any of the XPA series - plenty of power and the prices are reasonable.

LOL.. Yeah I wish Vann's would drop those 28s. Not that I could afford them right now but would def be nice! Say $800 a piece Yea, I was looking at some Emotiva's few months ago and was just browsing on ebay as well at prices. I'd prolly just want a XPA-3 and have that power my 15s and C1 and let my AVR power my surround OMD5s.. Ebay has a XPA-5 for $619 I think right now ending in 2 days. Also a UPA-2 going for $275. I'm sure my AVR just isn't able to handle all that when I crank it up more like you were saying. How do your 15s sound with your XPA-1?

The 15's sound great with the XPA-1's. They sounded great with the XPA-2 as well. It is probably just psychological but the XPA-1's seem to make it seem more effortless - in reality I probably couldn't hear any difference between the XPA-1 and XPA-2. I actually put my speakers up for sale a few days ago not because I was unhappy with them but because I am always wanting to try something new. Right after that I did an extended music listening session with some CD's and a couple of concert BD's and decided I would be crazy to sell them. I would have to spend too much money to get something that would (might) be appreciably better. So instead what do I wind up doing - just a few days after that I ordered a C2 center. Yes, I am a flake. I decided it wasn't worth trying to "upgrade" the set I have now because they sound great. Of course if Vann's did drop the price on the 28's...

About the amps - you might just keep watching the Emotiva web site because when they put things on sale, the prices can be very good. Normally it is around holidays so you might have to wait a while. Or you can call and ask if they have any "B" stock - most folks who post on the forum say they are indistinguishable from brand new.

I was researching a lot about speaker break in last night.. Its amazing how its 50/50 on who thinks it actually takes place and who think its a myth. I certainly can tell that the bass got better and that's a fact. I don't know about the tweeter but the woofs sound better..

What are your impressions of those 15's so far? How do they stack up to the Monitor 7's you were using? Very curious as I am on the fence on whether to get the 15's....Energy RC70's or Axiom M60's.....I keep going back and forth!!

What receiver are you using and did you try them without the amp prior?

I have a Denon 2112 ci and curious if I would truly hear a bug difference using a separate amp.

That's a great question.. The 15's sound really good. I'm pretty sure the bass is better with the 15's. I'd need to hook them back up and see.. Which I'm gonna do. But I do notice a larger sound stage.. They look awesome.. Better than the other speakers you mentioned.. At the price the Mirage's are at right now,Its pretty much a no brainer.. I should have the new center today..OMD C1 and the OMDR rears tomorrow.. :P Then I'm going to order a new sub.

Just received the OMD C1.. That means the OMDR's will be here tomorrow :-)

OMG! I just got in my OMDC-2! First off..it's a work of art! Beautiful rosewood gloss finish and it is heavy! I just removed my C-1 and placed it as my left channel with another C -1 as my right channel. So far this set up sounds & LOOKS GREAT with that sleek looow profile look!I will listen to Rush, Yes & Iron Maiden tonight and get back and post how this 3 front channel setup sounds with 5.1 concerts. Man I can't stop looking at this beauty...i think i need to stop typing and touch myself!

Good to hear! That C-1 plays loud and clear! Tell us how your setup blends with the OMDR's and how do your Paras compare.

That's funny stuff.. Why are you using C1's for left and right?

Not sure if anyone saw my post but I just got the AVR-4311ci and the Audyssey XT32 makes a big difference with these speakers. If you want to make your Mirage's sound better I would definately consider gettng one, cheers.

Thanks for sharing. Going to the XT made a huge difference from my old one as well. I'll have to read up on what the differences are

I went the Onkyo tx nr 3009 route. I'm a amazed at how good it sounds with OMD 15s. The xt32 was a big upgrade over my Pioneer sc 07.

Yeah the XT32 brings out a whole new level of clarity to my speakers. The soundstage is also amazing. It sounds like I added speakers to my set up, that's how much better the soundstage is. The bass is also much tighter and better. Someone mentioned before that there's a bigger difference with Mirage speakers than there is with typical speakers when you step up to XT32 because of how they use reflections for the sound. After hearing the difference myself, I agree.

Got the C 1 hooked up... It fits perfectly under the TV,I'll post pics later.. Not sure how I feel about it or the whole system yet compared to what I had.. I'll watch a little bit of a movie later..

Nice! That C2 is nice. Makes me want to sell my C1 and get it but really no point to at the moment for me. What is the "B" stock for Emotiva, just refurbs?

It is a beauty. My dad has the rosewood C2 and its sharp looking. You'll have to post some pics of your setup.

Emotiva "B" stock is generally returned items. It's my understanding they are inspected and tested, and I believe they carry the same 30 day return privilege as does the new stuff (unless it is discontinued, in which case none of those items has the return privilege). New and B stock come with a 5-year warranty, whether current models or discontinued. You have to call ask them for what is available and how much, as it varies so there is no list on the web site.

Make sure you set it up and break it in properly. You running audessey?
I have not run auddessey yet, waiting for the OMDR's which should be here today or tomorrow. My friend that owns a theater company says the new type of speakers don't need to be broken in. He said the old paper cone maybe, but not the new stuff,He said they say to do that so you give them a chance and don't send them back right away. That makes sense also. I've been breaking in the OMD 15's all week, they are close to 100 hrs..

I already did,its on top of the tv and sounds better. I'm just thinking these speakers need more room to work..

He is right! I cranked up the maiden& Rush last night full blast and these things ROCK! ACES HIIIIGHH! Kind of hard to tear CARBON fiber and these new strong plastics that they use! I always "go for it" right out of the box! That way if they blow they blow well within my warranty. I strectched out my OMDC-2 so much last night..she ain't no virgin no more!

I think now the only really logical thing to do is try C2's all across the front.
