Does anyone have a more detailed description of the mid and higer frequency differences between the BP7000 and the BP7001? Also the difference compaired to the BP7002?

I'm considering all three as a option but from a practical standpoint the BP7001 or the BP7002 seems to be the way to go since I'll just have a average med. sized living room. At the same time I don't want to reget a purchase between one or the other..sigh.. lol

Thanks!

^^^

I can't give you specific differences but I was in your shoes. HT was my purpose but music was my priority. I took the middle road. I found the 7002's sounded good but the 7001's sounded fuller at low volumes and as the volume increased they never sounded uncomfortable, they just kept saying give me more. I associate this with 7001's 1500W sub and larger drivers vs 7002. I never had the opportunity to audition the 7000's in my area which probably saved me a few bucks. I thought the 7001's 10" sub, might have a tighter crisper bass and considering the other drivers matched the 7000's I saw the sub as the only difference. I have been told here, that this is not the only difference and that the 7000's add even more because of the enclosure volume and larger sub. It would have to be a significant difference for me to part with the 7001's but I don't see that happening.

Hi!

I own a couple of Definitive 7001 and got them hooked up to a Electrocompaniet dual mono reciever (or something like that). Now I'm looking at maybe buying a surround receiver and a center speaker + rear speakers. What receiver and speakers should I be looking for?

It has to be said that I got these speakers for free (amazing luck, not something criminal, just to be clear ) and I'm really not a audiophile. But now that I've got these speakers I'd like to utilize their potential.

Any suggestions?

The best match for your 7001's would be the c/l/r 3000 center channel $1099 list price) and the bpvx surrounds (list price $699 each.) You could get lucky and find some used ones on audiogon or ebay. Some dealers will discount around 20% off. As far as a reciever, I have an onkyo tx-sr 805. There are several receivers out there that will do the jod such as Denon, Pioneer, and Yamaha.

Very well said, I agree

I've found that the drivers on the 7000 and the 7001 are the same (minus the sub) but I believe DT changed the crossover settings/components between the 7001 and the 7000, which makes me nervous.

I'd go with the 7001 but once I find out the differences in the crossovers I'm second guessing the 7001 as a option and leaning towards the 7002 else go overkill with the 7000 lol.

Any thoughts?

By the way I'd be powering the speakers with a Denon 2808 and two Emotiva XPA-1 amps.

Thanks!

I hate you man
Okay, I'm over it now
As mentioned, the CLR3000 and BPVX would round out your surround system nicely, but you can also consider the other Def Tech offerings that have 6.5" mid drivers in them. Such as; BP10B, SM450, and some of the discontinued models... the CLR2000 and the powered monitors, these models are still as good as the day they were originally bought, but can save you a bundle of cash.

Just ordered the BP7000s. I hope they nice sounding. I was happy with the sound of the BP7002 so I don't think I will be disappointed...atleast I hope not after spending that much

What's your setup lookin' like; Separates or AVR? Gonna use a stand alone sub? Do you have other speakers yet? I don't mean to be nosey... well, yeah I do ... After all, you're bringing home a pair of Def Tech flagships, that's the beginning of a killer setup. Tell us more.

Right now I have Klipsch F3, C3, S3, B3, and SUB12 running off a Denon 2808. I managed to get Emotiva XPA-1 over the New Year's when they had a nice sale. I'll probably leave the Klipsch hooked up to the Denon then power the BP7000's with the XPA-1s. Eventually maybe I'll sell the Klipsch stuff and get all DT, but I dunno, the highs do sound nice on the F3's.

Actually, Im afraid to use it. As much as I think its the cherry on the top, I have one hand on my phone just waiting for one of my neighbors to call to complain...

Its like driving a Porsche GT2 on the highway and there's two cops pacing you the whole time. Ugh.

Come on, pop in some "Live Free or Die Hard" and let me hear you over here in Farmingdale.

That's a lotta sub. Admittedly, I'm painfully desirous.
Maybe it's just shadowing in the photo, but the wall outlet to the sub appears to have been smoked .
Thanks for the pics.

Thanks!

which crossover setting are you talking about

chet at def tech could let you know for sure

it's possible the crossover from mids to sub could be different since they both use different drivers on the sub section

After many discussions with Chet and otk, I upgraded the front end from the SM450's mains, to running 3 CLR2000's. I almost pulled the trigger on the BP2000's, BP20's, yet decided to hold off for now on the bipolar speakers. When I run my projector my left speaker would be sending the sound down the hallway....

For now I just added on to my homebuilt 450 stands. The top of the CLR2000 stands at 60" for the left and right mains. The tweeters are almost exactly at the same height as when the 450's were on the stands. I'll have to try standing up the center CLR2000 and see what I think.

Bottom line...... having the 3 CLR2000's up front and matching really sounds wonderful!! I put the 450's out back replacing my SM350's. One of these days I'll try some bipolar towers, but for now this setup sounds great.
