Which would sound better for Home Theater? A set of new Mythos or a set of older used Def Techs (BP-8B, CLR2002, BPX)? Ill be using a HSU sub with either setup.

BRAND NEW:

Mythos 5 (x2 front)
Mythos 3 (x1 center)
Mythos Gem (x2 sorround)

VS.

USED:

BP-8B (x2 front)
CLR2002 (x1 center)
BPX (x2 sorround)

my vote is for the USED option although I have not heard the BP8 yet.... the NEW option lacks a subwoofer to give it that big thump in the movie.

Ill be using a HSU sub for either setup, so bass isnt an issue.

I've got a bed room directly above the living room. I don't believe the BP Z/A's are an option. That is something I could look into though.

Anyone out there who received the Mythos Gem XLs, can you kindly show us a photo of it and a short review. Thanks.

Hey all,

Just wanted to say thanks for all the advice. I just pulled the trigger on a Def Tech setup. I got:

BP7004 L/R
Mythos Seven Center
Mythos Gem Surrounds
Supercube II Sub

The center may switch to a 2002 if we decide to get a new TV stand. The Mythos Seven is the only one that will currently fit inside the current stand. Either way, with the auto EQ on the Pio 84, the Seven sounds quite good.

Thanks again!

what kind of tv do you have?

i have the 2002
and used this mount and i know it can hold more other day i was moving the receiver around and i couldnt figure out why it wouldnt pull out so i kepted tugging and tugging till it did come out, turns i forgot to unwrap the antenna wire from the center channel stand lol so it was holding the speaker plus me pulling on it without even budging!

ordered 7004s, 2002, and bp1x and having trouble waiting. my question, is 12" off side wall and 12" off back wall enough for the 7004s?

I think you'll be fine.

GEO, my 7002s are setup the same way.
i played w/ them this weekend, bass up, or sub up, and going from the 12oclock position to1-2... etc.
All went right back to 0 & 12 o'clock.

is there a reason you went with the 1x for rears over the 2x. i originaly had those and ended up picking up the 2x a few months later. the sound is much much better. i couldnt believe how much a difference there was.

Yes, they were. Sales guy almost hurt himself moving the M-K.

Ok. Has anyone here ever used or heard one of the SVS or the other internet only sub (name started with an H...) that is so highly regarded over in the Sub section?
Seems odd to me that the only ones that are ever really boasted about over there are only available via the internet.
I guess I'm more willing to walk in and pay a little more for something that I can touch and feel first. I did some online research on the REL's, and I have to say that on paper, I'm impressed. They ONLY make subs, FWIW. Spendy though. I'll have to talk to my sales guy and see if I can bring one home to listen to. Not sure if he'll go for it, but I've dropped about 9K with him in the last 3 months, so maybe....

SVS and Hsu Research both enjoy excellent reputations, especially in the "bang for the buck" category. Both have also received positve reviews in the various publications.

Hi All,
I just purchased definitive technology speakers and the following set up:

- Mythos one's for the main
- Mthos three for the center
- Mythos gems for the rears
- Martin & Logan subwoofer (thought they had a tighter bass)
- Marantz sr7001 amp

I have not recieved them yet but am excited. Any advice on the system and set up, placement of the speakers? Or how to get the best sound out of them?

Thanks

I also spiked them to the floor using the supplied hardware.

I have everything setup pretty much flat right now, no extra bass or treble on the receiver and the volume knob on the subs set to 12:00. I set the bass mgmnt on the receiver to +0 for the subs as well.

The sound is very good. Very clean and balanced. This is my first true listening experience with bi-polars. Musically I thought they were great. They are not as pin-point with the stereo image as my previous towers. But the image was properly centered. It just sounded larger. During louder passages the "wall of sound" these are famous for was very evident. Bass was authoritative without being overbearing.

Watched a few movie passages and was impressed as well. The "Club Fever" scene in Collateral is one of my favorites. The gun Tom Cruise shoots sounds fantastic on these. I could really feel it and again I have everything set pretty conservatively right now. Everything blended very nicely with my pre-existing 2500 center.

All in all I'm very happy with my purchase. I'm currently still using my old 5.1 receiver as my local HT shop was out of the 2807 I want. But I should have it by mid-week.

After a couple more days of playing, things are still going very well. I'm going to wait to do any more tweaking until I get the Denon in place. So far the only thing I'm thinking to try is reversing the speakers and getting the powered subs facing out. I'm curious to see how that sounds. I had one scene in "Saving Private Ryan" towards the end where the planes fly over that got a little boomy. Overall though I had a pretty good experience. The most impressive part was the opening scene ( no not the bombs and gunfire ) actually it was the sounds of the ocean waves crashing against the boats. It was overwhelming how large and enveloping that sound was.

Thanks to everyone here for the tips on getting these setup etc. I'll try to get a pic posted in a day or two.

I have an svs 25-31 pci coupeled with my bp2002tl's. I bought it slightly used so was able to hear it before I bought it. Frankly, I can not imagine a retail sub that could compete in its price range. I have never read one negative thing about svs subs. I'm sure hsu is very good too.

Hello my fellow DefTech addicts, I was wondering if any one is interested in a pair of Mythos 1 in silver?
They need to go because of new St that I pre order, and like I said on my other post my GF will flip is she see another set of boxes coming in. I still have a pair of energy's Veritas that I also would like to sell as well.So you can see my dilemma.... You can PM me for price for either speaker.

The veritas are the current running V2.4i in glossy black,I used them for 2 channel listening.

Thank you

I have the 2006, 2300 and 1.2s. One of the things I wish I would have done different are the bigger surrounds, you should be fine.

Need some opinions. I have pretty much decided on the bp7004's, but not sure what to select for the center. Would the Pro Center 2000 be sufficient or should I go with the CLR 2002? I am just thinking about going with these 3 speakers as a start. My couch is pretty much right up against the wall so I have no room in back of me for surrounds, and have a foot to my left of wall space for one and probably 2 ft on my right of wall space. I think the BP surrounds would be too big and not look that great. Also would it sound right if they are that close to my seating? I have been thinking of possibly the in-walls UIW BP/A.

Any help would be appreciated

I think I'm going get the BP2X next weekend. I've been wanting to do it ever since I got my BP7006 but have been putting it off b/c of price. I hope they sound as good as I hope they sound. Anybody can give me some info on them I'd appreciate.

I asked a Definitive Tech this exact question yesterday and here was his response:

Thanks for your recent email to Definitive Technology. First, without its
end caps, the CLR2002 is a bit over 20" wide.

Next, since the CLR2500 and CLR2002 use the same 5.25" bass/midrange drivers
as the BP7004s, these two center speakers are considered perfect matches to
the BP7004s. However, even though the CLR2300 has 4.5" midrange drivers, it
has the same tonal balance as the BP7004s. (I would describe the CLR2300 as
a good match to the BP7004s - and since the CLR2300 is a much better speaker
than the CLR2002, I would recommend using the CLR2300 - over the CLR2002.)

(The ProCenter 2000 is s a fine speaker, but if you're able to use the
CLR2300, this would be a better choice.)

The 2500 is the perfect match for the 4's. In my case I don't have enough available space for it. That's why I was looking for workable alternatives.

Hopefully, this advice will help you as well.

Funny, i have 7002 & 1.2s and i think its fine. only like 5% of sound comes from the rears. With 80%+ coming from my center, I'll up to 2500. Bpx's will come after a receiver upgrade, and after area rug and drapes.
