It should work, but I don't think it'll sound very good. No harm in trying, though.

I'm not buying that story. The parts are available right now from Definitive and Directed Electronic's eBay seller has most of them available. I still think Definitive will announce that the 7000's are discontinued along with the other BP towers any time now.

I'm preparing to buy a 7.1 setup setup of the new bipolar series, I'm just a little uncertain about what to choose for the mains. I would certainly prefer the 8080 mainly due to the bigger midrange drivers and the possibility of being able to go sans sub. I'm just not so sure these can put out enough clean low bass to make me happy. Does anyone have a -3dB measurement of the 8080 bass response? I just wish I had the option to get the towers without the subs then I could add a svs pc-ultra. Can't afford both! How much midrange do you think I would be sacrificing going with smaller towers so that I can get a badass sub? Someone help figure out how to spend my money!

So , you think that they are coming out with a new flagship tower? or just getting rid of the flagships 7001sc and 7000sc?

Those are too new for anyone to have any in room experience with them. I take all +- ratings for what they are worth, your romm makes all the difference. I have 7001's and felt like the lf was fine for music but lacking for movies. I would not let that be the reason not to get the 8080's, you could always add a sub down the road when you have the funds.

I figure the 8080 will end up being the flagship model after this year-Just my opinion.

i'm guessing from the specs it will have similar bass that the 7002 has

BP7002: +/- 3db 25hz - 20,000 hz

that's from def tech so it's probably more like 29hz +/- 3db

so you will probably need to add a subwoofer to the 8080s if you want anything below 30hz with any real authority

Ok can someone pacify my curiousity please.

The CLR3000 the 10" woofer that is in it. Can someone measure it and tell me if the Outside to Outside diameter is 10" or is it less?

Thanks,

I just ordered the bp 7002 fronts, clr 2500 center, and bp 7006 rears, should I set them all at full range on my receiver, or what other setting would be recommended, my reason is set as full range without the sub would be best, since all speakers have powered subs built in, thanks
post #20410 of 29416
Panzer set the towers to small and cross at 40Hz and set that LCR2500 to small at 60Hz and let a outboard sub handle the real low bass for the best tight mid bass and the sub handle the real low bass

If you aren't going to get a separate sub I would set the fronts and rears to large and the center to small.

Hey Guys,

Have
Bp7002's, CLR2500, BP1.2x's
Yamaha RX-V1700

Just ordered BPX's Cheap to replace my BP1.2x's

Now I need to update the 1700. Was thinking of taking advantage of the sale at Emotiva and getting the UPA5 and a decent receiver (yamaha, denon or Pioneer). Or no ext amp and one of the New Yamahas RX-A2000/3000.

Anybody have experience with/or opinion about pairing these speakers with an external amp. Or feelings on the pairing with various brands of receivers.

90% movies. 18'Wx12'Dx9'H. Budget ca $1500-$2000

You guys have help me make an amazing home theater that all of my friends LOVE.

Thanks in advance for the advice!!

Yes thats what I did but havent listen to it much lately. I do have a question for you UofAZ1
my buddy bought a 60.6 setup and i read somewhere that a guy was hooking up his to fronts to the subwoofer whats your opinion of that

Oh Man CONGRATs on the awesome Find! Dont let CWX find out, he has been hunting all over the place for a set of BP7000sc's. Did you find a new pair or a nice set of gently used ones?

I would assume you got a really good deal if you are taking a road trip. How far away?

I would say skip the Yamaha all together and buy a Pio Elite SC25 or SC27. You can get them at BB either open box or some are still in box for 7-9 benji's. They run 140watts through ICE AMPS, and are really nice sounding. Another thought would be to go Marantz, Denon or even Integra. If you go with one of these I would say buy in the Mid/High range around the price you are wanting to spend and you will not need an amp. Make sure they have Pre Outs... and then you can use the AVR as a PRE PRO down the road.

A few on here run EMO's and like them, and some say they are really bright with Def Tech speakers. It is either Mikesp or Counsil that uses Macintosh or ATI amps and he really likes those. Keep in mind they are a little more then you are wanting to spend for both.

I actually think I might break down in a yr or two and get the ATI 3007 which is 300watts per channel into 7 channels I think. And I hear they are very under rated in power.

Cool. Did you find a used pair or are they new? I might be tempted to go with 6 towers but my room layout wont permit it. Does w4s make 2 channel amps?

I think James question is about hooking up the front woofers in the Def Tech towers to the Sub out on the receiver.

If you dont have a sub, I would say it would be ok. But I think others are saying it muddys the sound.

In addition not all Towers have LFE they are Full Range. So hooking them up this way you would be losing some of the frequencies in your Towers and chopping some of the lower/mid range out between your highs.

But I could be totally off.

Ah, okay...so the standard question about using the towers' RCA inputs. I'm one of those that thinks it muddies the sound, but there's never any harm in trying. (I guess I was confused by his original question saying that his friend got a 60.6 setup....I have no clue what that means! )

My buddy just bought a procinema 60.6 Def Tech system its the smallest 5.1 they make procenter 60, procinema 60's and prosub 60 subwoofer. I remember reading a guy was hooking up this and hooked up his fronts from the receiver and than ran another set of wires from each front left and right than going directly to the subwoofer.

Congratulations! I've got my eyes on some listed on Audiogon but they are over budget.

$3850!!! He's asking way too much. I would have been able to get a NEW pair for $3400.00 plus shipping if they were still available from definitive technology. But they are all out.

I would think the 7000's unless the TL3000's go slightly lower but with a bit less accuracy, tightness, and definition.

Thanks evil for the input. Why so down on Yamaha? Bad experience with pairing it with the Def Tech? I was looking forward to the new units, but I'm open minded to what is going to sound best. Tell me more.

Anyone else out there that would like to chime it???
